Emma Alberici

Emma Alberici spent 29 years in the news media, most recently in public interest broadcasting, gaining a reputation for her ability to engage audiences with her sharp and interrogative interviewing style on the ABC's flagship economic and political analysis program, Lateline. From her early days as a finance editor on the Melbourne Herald Sun and a decade of investigative reporting in the field at the Nine Network, Emma also managed to write the seminal 1994 Small Business Book which was an instant success and updated twice to meet demand from readers, culminating in a 60,000 print run. She carved a stellar career at the ABC where she was the 7:30 Report Finance Editor and then Europe Correspondent during the Global Financial Crisis. She returned to Australia in 2012 to take up the position of host with Australia�s then leading late night news and analysis program Lateline. After six years spent interviewing world leaders and local newsmakers, Emma was promoted to Chief Economics Correspondent. Emma is now a Principal Consultant at Derwent Executive Search, bringing to the task her exceptional experience as a journalist, business reporter and communications specialist. Her enduring curiosity and impeccable listening skills are also being put to great use at Charles Sturt University where she is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Communications Faculty. Emma teaches Masters Degree students the art of asking the right questions to elicit rich and insightful information. Before joining Derwent, Emma spent a year advising leadership teams at the intersection of marketing and issues management, helping them better engage with government, create engaging content and leverage a dynamic media environment. Emma is an excellent communicator, passionate about diversity and inclusion and is invited to speak on economic and geopolitical affairs. She is also a highly sought after professional speaker, MC, interviewer and panel facilitator.

Jennifer Byrne

Jennifer Byrne started her career in journalism at a young age as a Cadet Journalist with The Age newspaper in Melbourne. At the age of 23, she was posted to California as The Age�s youngest-ever Foreign Correspondent. In 1981, Jennifer moved to Sydney as Founding Reporter with Channel Nine�s Sunday program and five years later, joined the reporting team at 60 Minutes. In 1993, she became the morning presenter of ABC�s Radio 2BL and in 1995, was appointed Publishing Director of Reed Books. In 1999, having spent a couple of years as Stand-in Presenter for both ABC-TV�s 7.30 Report and Lateline, Jennifer took up the anchor�s job at Foreign Correspondent, and spent five years as Host and Reporter, travelling with the program. She also continued to write features and book reviews, and regularly hosted Radio National�s Breakfast program. Jennifer moved on from Foreign Correspondent in 2003 to join The Bulletin magazine as a Senior Writer, working on a weekly column, for which she won several national awards. In May 2006 she developed and launched a new book program, the ABC Book Club, along with a series of literary specials and interviews featuring such international guests as J.K.Rowling, Bill Bryson and Ian McEwan, and local authors including Tim Winton, Helen Garner and kids favourite Andy Griffiths. She wrapped the programme after 11 successful years and continues to work in print, with regular appearances in leading newspaper and travel magazines. This year, Jennifer year took on the role of Patron of Coastrek, which has raised some $20 million for the Fred Hollows Foundation to fight preventable blindness. She is also a long-time Ambassador for the Australian Indigenous Education Programme, a private sector initiative providing scholarships for young Indigenous students to attend leading Australian schools and universities.

Prof Tim Flannery

Prof Tim Flannery is one of the world's most influential environmentalists. An author of best-selling books, presenter for numerous television documentary series, and founder of several highly influential not for profit organisations, his skills are in high demand with corporate and non-corporate entities. Tim's work in Melanesia is legendary. Over 2 decades he led 25 expeditions into Melanesia, contacting some indigenous people for the first time, and discovering and describing 28 species of living mammals, feats described in his best-selling book Throwim Way Leg. Sir David Attenborough has described Flannery as being �in the league of the all-time great explorers, such as Sir David Livingstone. He has published over 140 scientific publications and is noted as one of Australia's most renowned authors having published over 30 books. Best known for his work in climate change, Tim established the Copenhagen Climate Council (2007), the Climate Council of Australia (2013), and served as Australia's Climate Commissioner (2011-2013). His network is extensive, having served on the Sustainability Advisory Boards of Siemens and Tata Power, and advising Sir Richard Branson on the Virgin Earth Challenge. Tim is a former director of the South Australian Museum, and is currently a professor at Melbourne University. He spent a year as professor of Australian studies at Harvard, and currently teaches a month-long course on climate change at the Graduate Institute in Geneva each year. In 2002, he became the first environmentalist to deliver The Australia Day address to the nation. In 2005 he was honoured as Australian Humanist of the Year and, in 2007, he was named Australian of the Year. Tim has helped establish organisations that are the foundation of species conservation in Australasia today. In 2001 he and Martin Copley founded the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. In 2008 he joined the board of the Tenkile Conservation Alliance, which is devoted to conserving two species of tree-kangaroo that he discovered in PNG, In 2017 he established the Kainake and Kwaio conservation initiatives, the only ongoing, large-scale terrestrial conservation initiatives in the Solomon Islands. Between them, these organisations conserve and maintain over 5,400 hectares of old growth forest on the islands of Malaita and Bougainville. In 2021 ahead of the Biden Climate Summit, Prof Flannery was awarded the prestigious Geddes Environment Medal by the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, for his work on climate change. In his new film, "Climate Changers" released in October 2023, Tim Flannery searches for the missing ingredient in our fight against climate change that is leadership. He asks, " Where are the leaders who will drive change? Are they strong enough to triumph where others have failed? ", Tim poses these questions as he meets leaders past and present in the hope of finding answers. Professor Tim Harcourt is the Industry Professor and Chief Economist at the Institute for Public Policy and Governance (IPPG) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Tim is also Chief Economist of UTS�s new Centre for Sport Business and Society (CSBS). Tim is passionate about making economics and international trade accessible to the whole community. He is well known for his TV shows The Airport Economist, and The Great Transformation. Tim is the author of seven books on the international economy including The Airport Economist. Professor Harcourt joined UTS in April 2021 from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) where he was Professor of Practice in Economics at the UNSW Business School. Tim was previously the first Chief Economist of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and Research Officer/Advocate with the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), a role first held by Bob Hawke in the 1960s. Tim has been an Adviser to two State Premiers and three Federal Cabinet Ministers and an Expert Panel Member to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) on Minimum Wages and Superannuation. He has also been an International Economist with the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) and has worked as an Economist in the private sector in USA, UK and Israel. Tim was educated at the University of Adelaide, the University of Minnesota, and Harvard University.
