Ana Diaz

Ana joined Currie Associates in March 2023 as a Regulatory Compliance Specialist and Instructor. She delivers guidance, training, and auditing services for shippers and carriers offering, transporting, and delivering hazardous materials. Ana develops and coordinates training programs to support clients with regulatory updates and requirements for transporting dangerous goods by all modes: air, land, and water. Additionally, Ana reviews Safety Data Sheets, researches regulatory requirements, develops product classification reports, and answers comprehensive technical questions. Her expertise includes knowledge of international, domestic, and multi-modal dangerous goods regulations. Ana has fifteen years of professional experience, emphasizing transportation risk management, safety compliance, civil litigation, and commercial insurance. Ana was the Claims Manager for a commercial insurance agency, and her legal background includes working in mass tort injury litigation. Before joining Currie Associates, she provided audit representation and consultancy services for a combination of USDOT-regulated motor carriers, implemented safety programs, delivered practical guidance, and helped motor carriers improve their safety processes, scores, and accident rates. Ana received her Associate of Arts degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She is a senior attending the University of Southern Mississippi, working towards her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering Technology (Logistics). Her estimated date of graduation is December 2023.

Anne Barry

Anne Barry is the Director, Marketing and Communications for Currie Associates, Inc. Anne's primary responsibility is developing and managing marketing, communications, and promotional plans for Currie Associates. Promotional Marketing | Create and execute yearly marketing plans and promotional campaigns for publication products, training, and consulting services. She designs promotional content and ensures appropriate distribution. Project/Training Management | Oversee instructor-led training, prepare client proposals and schedules for onsite and web-based training courses. She works directly with the Vice President on coordination and assignment for client consulting projects. On a personal level, Anne enjoys winter hiking; she completed the Lake George Winter 12ster Hiking Challenge and is working toward becoming an Adirondack 46er and completing the Fire Tower Hiking Challenge. She also enjoys travelling with her family and exploring national parks, some of her favorite travels so far are Iceland, Hawaii Volcano National Park, and the Rocky Mountains.

Christine Yakush - VP

Christine Yakush is the Vice President for Currie Associates and is responsible for the following: Developing and implementing the company's annual operating plan with business goals and objectives to include new business development. Provides project and financial management for the company. As a project manager, she works directly with clients and staff to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Management of staff and Human Resources. Review solicitation requests and provide proposals for training, auditing, and consulting services. Manages the e-Learning training courses for the Currie Associates' online site and client learning management systems (LMS). Enhances and/or develops and implements policies and procedures for the company. Implements process improvements continuously to ensure day-to-day operations of the company are effective. She currently serves as Administrator for the Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA) and the International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association, Inc. (IVODGA) and is responsible for the overall management of the associations including budgeting, financial reporting, membership retention and recruitment, sales, meeting planning, sponsorship, and marketing. Chris received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Empire State College.

Drew Watts

Drew has five years of professional experience in regulatory compliance and risk management. Drew served in the United States Air Force for four years as a Nuclear Missile Operations Officer and possesses a comprehensive background in integrating regulatory compliance standards with the operational needs of an organization. During this time, Drew was an instructor for his Air Force squadron and he specializes in developing and delivering training content that will meet the specific needs of a team in need of regulatory knowledge or the implementation of corrective actions. Drew was the Hazardous Materials Training Program Manager for a commercial motor company, helping to ensure that competent authority transportation requirements were met for all modes of transport and dangerous goods training standards were properly met. Additionally, he conducted internal audits for their USDOT-regulated dangerous goods shipments while assisting in preparations for external audits. He now performs compliance and security audits for our clients performing Hazardous Materials transportation services. Drew's experience in regulatory compliance allows him to provide consulting services for our clients to include researching and interpreting Hazardous Materials transportation regulations, answering technical questions, and providing technical review or advice. He assists clients throughout their government regulations authorization and compliance process. His list of duties includes: Special permit/Competent authority applications SDS review/Revision Product classification support Development of SOPs/Procedures for clients Drew provides technical expertise to COSTHA and IVODGA members as a staff liaison and represents these Trade Associations at international meetings. He identifies issues and areas where Trade Association involvement can help members by reducing member expenses and updating regulations to streamline processes. Frank Lopez

Frank is responsible for developing and coordinating training programs to ensure compliance with the related Hazardous Materials transportation regulations, providing timely, comprehensive advisory and regulatory compliance support as it relates to the transportation, handling, storage, and delivery of hazardous materials. He remains current on industry trends and regulations, maintaining relationships with regulatory authorities and current regulatory information to clients and trade associations. With over 15 years professional experience in dangerous goods transportation, Frank was a Hazardous Materials Airlift Inspector, Preparer and Instructor. Prior to joining Currie Associates, he was a supply chain operations manager and Hazardous Materials certifier. Additionally, he was a career Air Transportation professional, serving over 20 years in the United States Air Force. During this time, he held various positions of leadership and management from shift supervisor to Unit Superintendent, leading teams of up to 151 personnel. Oversaw process improvement, project management, maintained regulatory and quality compliance as well as order and discipline of his teams. Frank holds two Community College of the Air Force Associate of Applied Science degrees. One in Transportation Management, the second in Instructor of Technology and Military Science. Additionally, he has a Bachelor of Science in Housing, Interior Design, and Resource Management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) and a Master of Business Administration (w/Honors) from American Military University.

Julie has more than 20 years of experience with the transportation of dangerous goods regulations (49 CFR, ADR, IATA DGR, IMDG Code & TDGR), and uses her knowledge and experience to develop and deliver training programs to ensure compliance with the regulations. She provides technical consulting services to Currie Associates, the Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA), and the International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association (IVODGA). Julie keeps current on industry trends and regulations, and through her work with the GPAC, MACTDG and the RID/ADR/ADN Joint Meeting, she maintains strong working relationships and credibility with regulatory authorities and is able to provide timely and current regulatory information to clients and trade associations. She serves as the COSTHA representative at the RID/ADR/ADN Joint Meeting, at the Multi-Association Committee on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (MACTDG) and at the Transport Canada General Policy Advisory Council (GPAC). She also leads the COSTHA Canada Working Group ensuring members are regularly updated on Transport Canada initiatives. As a Transport Canada TDG Analyst, she participated in drafting amendments to the TDG Regulations, and provided advice to stakeholders and expertise in the issuance of equivalency certificates for TDG. She also advised on proposals submitted to United Nations Sub-Committee of Experts on the TDG, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Dangerous Goods Panel and participated in the drafting of proposals, notably on the classification of corrosive substances. As a CANUTEC Emergency Response Advisor, she received emergency response specialized training to provide first responders with appropriate advice during dangerous goods emergencies. Julie holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and a bachelor's degree in Education, as well as an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate. She received her Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) Vocational Certification from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) in 2019.

Laurie West

Laurie West is the Administrative and Training Coordinator for Currie Associates. Her primary responsibility is to provide administrative support to the company's office activities - answers the telephone, processes regulatory book orders, maintains the regulatory book inventory, works with database and accounting software. She works closely with the operations team and regulatory compliance staff to gather and send appropriate training materials to the client. Along with preparing training materials she assembles, ships, and tracks the regulatory books needed for training. Laurie sees the training projects through to completion to ensure client satisfaction; handles and delivers course wrap-ups to include invoicing, thank you notes, completion certificates and final student list. She has 20+ years of experience in the support function with many large companies in the benefit, personal lines insurance, and education industries.

Tom Ferguson

Tom has nearly 30 years of compliance experience with emphasis on the safe and efficient transportation of dangerous goods. He is currently the President and Chief Technical Officer for Currie Associates, and Administrator for the Council on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles (COSTHA) and the International Vessel Operators Dangerous Goods Association (IVODGA). Tom leads the COSTHA delegation to the UN Subcommittee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (UNSCOE) and serves as the Secretary for the UN Informal Working Group on Lithium Batteries. The Working Group is currently developing additional testing protocols to properly identify and categorize lithium batteries based on the intrinsic nature and susceptibility to thermal event propagation. COSTHA is working closely with industry and the regulators on the proper classification of Safety Devices including micro gas generators used as components of many airbags and safety systems. These products do not meet the exclusion criteria from explosives yet are growing in application beyond traditional airbags for vehicles. COSTHA is also leading a discussion at the UNSCOE on infectious substance regulations to determine if lessons learned over the last 20 years with the Category A/Category B designations should result in proposed changes in the transport regulations of these materials.
