Aditi Rao

As Equalize Health's Global Health Analyst, Aditi is responsible for deepening our understanding of global health issues around the world and bringing high-quality medical technologies to low-resource environments. Aditi supports the Impact and Sourcing & Evaluation teams in screening potential projects for further development and estimating the impact of these solutions. Aditi has a background in medical anthropology and experience working in global health research and practice, across diverse contexts in Asia and Africa. Before Equalize Health, Aditi worked as a Research Associate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she supported the translation of knowledge assets from the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, as well as the development of core implementation research competencies to enable effective delivery of health services and programs, and guide training programs. Aditi is interested in researching strategies for equitable implementation of health interventions, adapting global health policies to local health systems, and evaluating behavioral dimensions of program adoption. She also deeply enjoys ethnographic and qualitative research. Aditi grew up in New Delhi, India, and has since also lived in China, England, and the US. She holds a B.A. in Anthropology from Durham University and an MPH in Global Health from Johns Hopkins University. Aditi's favorite part of working at Equalize Health is their impact-driven ethos and interdisciplinary thinking. Outside of Equalize Health, Aditi enjoys listening to and playing music, learning new sports and skills, and exploring new places. She is also an avid reader, loves ice cream, and more than anything else, loves to spend time with her dogs.

Avijit Bansal

As India Clinical Advisor, Avijit advises on all clinical activities of Equalize Health in India - from engaging with clinical stakeholders to gather insights for product development, to driving clinical evaluation of the products developed. Avijit has a decade of experience in impact driven medical innovation. As co-founder of Windmill Health he invented NeoBreathe - a patented easy-to-use newborn resuscitation device that has helped thousands of babies breathe across ten countries. He raised over a million dollars for the product which also won the National Technology Award from the President of India in 2017. By education, he is a medical doctor with specialization in pulmonary medicine. He is also an alumnus fellow of the Stanford India Biodesign program (now known as School of International Biodesign) where he continues to mentor Innovation fellows. Avijit is originally from Ghaziabad, UP, India. He is a staunch believer in the power of simple innovations to transform lives and that's his favourite part of working with the Equalize Health team. When not working, Avijit likes to read non-fiction, write poetry and play the flute and Ukulele.

Bhavya Singh

As Equalize Health's Research Associate, Bhavya is part of the market intelligence team where he is responsible for executing primary and secondary research and providing extensive multi-dimensional research support that spans across Equalize Health's internal departments. He conducts literature reviews of existing and ongoing research to inform study designs. He joined Equalize Health to strengthen healthcare delivery and tackle the systemic inequities in India's public health system that leave millions of vulnerable people behind. Bhavya has over 2 years of diverse work experience. He started his career in marketing after graduating college, but made a quick pivot to the development sector. Prior to joining Equalize Health, he worked as a consultant for Global Health Strategies to strengthen the communications and outreach capacity of the scientists at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) - India's apex biomedical research institution. He was responsible for monitoring and evaluating the media impact of ICMR's health communications efforts and was part of ICMR's crisis communications response team for the COVID-19 pandemic. He also has experience in policy research and designing an intervention for access to education in rural Bihar through internships at Vision India Foundation and World Health Partners, respectively. Bhavya holds a B.A in Economics (honours) from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. He grew up in New Delhi but is originally from the scenic mountainous state of Himachal Pradesh. He likes exploring India's underground arts culture, making playlists and could be frequently seen at independent music concerts before the pandemic. He is a regular practitioner of martial arts for the past 2 years, and greatly enjoys training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai after work. His pet peeve is a strong aversion to white light.

Chris Abele

As Senior Electrical Engineer for Equalize Health, Chris is responsible for electronics development including design, prototyping, testing, transfer to manufacturing, and field support. His PhD and previous degrees are from the University of Illinois at Urbana / Champaign. Graduate work in laser spectroscopy led him to a position developing scientific lasers, then medical lasers, and eventually general medical products. He has contributed to products which perform corneal sculpting, dermatology procedures, cervical cancer detection, detection of plaques in cardiac arteries, endometrial ablation, duodenal ablation, and insertion of brain-computer interface electrodes. Chris has always aspired to make the world a better place, so the mission to create medical technology for everyone is a great match. Born and raised in the Chicago area and educated in central Illinois, the majority of Chris' professional life was in the Boston area. A long time runner, cyclist, and épée fencer, Chris moved to the San Francisco area in 2020 to be closer to family.

Christine Yu

As Equalize Health's Quality Assurance Manager, Christine is a member of the engineering team helping to develop new products from concept to commercialization, and she oversees the Quality Management System (QMS) for the organization to meet global regulations. This includes developing and maintaining QMS documents, overseeing and improving Design Control and Operations processes and leading document control activities among other quality tasks. Christine holds a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and an M.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, with a focus in cell and tissue engineering and research. Most recently, she established and implemented an eQMS system, served as the Management Representative during audits/inspections, and also submitted a 510(k) Premarket Notification to the FDA at her previous role. Originally from Aurora, Colorado, Christine was immediately drawn to Equalize Health because of their mission-driven values, specifically to provide medical technology to low-resource environments around the world. In her free time, Christine enjoys playing golf, tennis, violin, and traveling the world.

Clara Orndorff

As a mechanical engineer on the New Product Development team, Clara designs, prototypes, and tests products intended to support Equalize Health's goal of making health care more equitable. She has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington and a Master's from UC Berkeley. Her prior experience includes robotics, marine technology, and nanotechnology. At the UW, she did her capstone project through the Engineering Innovations in Health program, which showed her that the skills she'd learned from different fields could be applied to medical device applications. Based in Seattle, Clara also enjoys drawing, reading, cooking, running and martial arts, and playing violin.

Costa Gillespie

As Director of Engineering, Costa leads Equalize Health's Engineering team. He brings over 25 years of experience taking medical devices to market in a wide variety of domains. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Pacific and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He began his career as an individual contributor designing electronics and software. He later served as a technical lead and program manager in various organizations, eventually leading Engineering departments covering hardware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing disciplines. He has brought products from concept to revenue in diverse fields such as neonatology, cardiology, ophthalmology, radiology, and radiotherapy. He has held management positions at Abbott, Boston Scientific, Natus, and several startups pursuing both Class II and Class III medical device commercialization. Costa has spent his career working to improve the lives of patients. Equalize Health has given him the opportunity to focus that energy on the underserved populations around the globe. Equalize Health stays true to its mission by persistently measuring the impact of its endeavors on the patients it serves. Costa brings his knowledge and experience to maximize that impact with designs targeted towards the needs of those patients and the providers who care for them. Costa grew up in San Francisco to immigrant parents. His wife came to the Bay Area from Croatia to pursue her own career in software engineering. Most of his and his wife's extended family lives in Europe. He and his family travel there annually to stay connected. Costa is an avid sailor, taking advantage of one of the most exciting conditions in North America. He has sailed in other parts of the world including the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

Daniel Wald

As Equalize Health's Chief Growth Officer, Daniel manages Equalize Health's sales teams, commercial partnerships, and market strategies around the globe. He has over 10 years of experience with launching and operating consumer product businesses in emerging markets and has lived in East Africa and the Middle East. Daniel focuses on the commercial viability of the product portfolio and helps ensure that products designed by Equalize Health reach as many target users as possible. Daniel is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Urban Planning. Prior to joining Equalize Health, Daniel worked at Envirofit International and BioLite in the renewable energy sector selling clean cookstoves and solar systems to off-grid communities. Daniel is originally from Dallas, Texas. He is passionate about the power of technology to empower people to live healthier, fuller lives. Daniel is drawn to start-ups where he is able to bring products from inception to scale. Daniel's favorite part of working at Equalize Health is working with collaborative and supportive colleagues unified in a mission of saving lives. Darby has particular expertise in the medical device and diagnostics sector. Before joining Morgan Stanley, David was a Partner and top ranked medical technology analyst at Thomas Weisel Partners and a founding member of the healthcare practice. He is the Founder and Principal of Intervalent, an independent advising and consulting firm that specializes in product development and innovation strategy for consumer-facing medical devices. David has extensive inhaled drug-delivery experience with a combined 12 years at Nektar Therapeutics and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, where he oversaw the design, development, and manufacturing of several novel pulmonary drug delivery systems. Before Nektar, David held technical and leadership positions at Game Ready, a startup in the orthopedics space, and Bridge Design, an industrial design and product development consulting firm. Dr. Anurag Mairal

In these roles, he leads initiatives focused on applying the biodesign process to resource-constrained settings globally. He has co-founded both BME-IDEA Africa, a community of medtech innovation programs in Asia Pacific and Africa, and Orbees Medical, a SF Bay Area-based strategy consulting firm serving the global healthcare industry, with a focus on medtech, pharmaceutical, and digital health industries. Dr. Mairal has an extensive background in medical technology development and commercialization, collaborating with partners in the U.S., India, China, and other under-served markets to advance research and product development, manufacturing, implementation, and distribution. He has decades of experience at major global health organizations, including PATH and Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Mairal earned a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. Dylan Guelig

As Senior Design Engineer, Dylan works to create new technology and early-stage concepts for Equalize Health's Product Development team. He brings broad experience in product R&D for health technologies and medical devices and has problem-solved around the world from the hospital ward to the high-volume manufacturer. He has contributed to technology development spanning the non-profit, academic, and industry engineering environments and enjoys contributing to a dynamic and well-rounded team. He has technical depth in point-of-care diagnostics, low-cost medical devices, and blood collection technologies. He enjoys working with his hands and is comfortable with a sketchpad, a CNC mill or a micropipette! As a designer, he strives to follow the adage: "simple is better." He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and an M.S. in Bioengineering from the University of Washington. On the weekends, you'll find him exploring the Cascade mountains of the Pacific Northwest by foot, ski, or bicycle. Dylan is an avid outdoor enthusiast and on rainy days, enjoys coffee and creative pursuits in his workshop.

Ekta Singh

As Equalize Health's Research Associate, Ekta is part of the UQ team. She is responsible for gathering information on the prerequisites to conduct and execute primary and secondary research by providing extensive multi-dimensional research support that spans Equalize Health's internal departments. She conducts literature reviews of existing and ongoing research to inform study designs. Ekta joined Equalize Health to strengthen and improve the healthcare system and address the inequalities in India's public health system to facilitate the delivery of equal health opportunities among the deprived. Ekta has over four and a half years of ethnographic research work experience. She started her career in Medical Anthropology by conducting the studies entitled, "Community attitude towards abortions and functioning of medical termination of pregnancies (MTP) centers: A study in Lucknow city and presented the study entitled, "An analysis of youth awareness towards contraceptive use and role of counsellors in promoting reproductive health education in Lucknow, UP" at the Indian Anthropological Congress organized by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra. 2019. She also holds a Diploma in Naturopathy from KEW academy. She has participated in the national seminar on "Facilitating Sustainable Livelihoods for the Impoverished: The Role of Education Process," organized by the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension in Collaboration with Interdisciplinary School (IDS) (Humanities & Social Sciences), Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, Maharashtra, 2019 and international lectures on "Mental illness and eating disorders amongst adolescents," organized by Harvard T. Ekta is a Ph.D. Fellow in Anthropology at Savitribai Phule Pune University, Maharashtra, and has worked on the "Assessment of menopause among Bhil women of Nandurbar district in Maharashtra from bio-cultural perspective." She has her MA in Anthropology from Savitribai Phule Pune University and did her bachelors in Anthropology from Avadh Girls' Degree College, Lucknow University, and was honored with the Dilip Bhargava Memorial Medal and certificate of merit in Anthropology for securing the highest marks and Begum Habibullah Certificate of Excellency in 2014. She grew up in Lucknow, but has spent most of her time in Pune, Maharashtra and regions around. She likes exploring indigenous cultures, traveling to off-beat locations, is a big-time foodie, and an awesome cook. She loves to dance, sing, paint, free verse poetry that's mostly because it's the ‘Lakhnavi effect' in her. She practices vipassana meditation and MMA for some calm. Elizabeth Marshman

Elizabeth is our consulting Engineering Manager, managing the mechanical & product side of our FlowLite CPAP device. She brings 12 years of experience in medical devices, ranging from point-of-care diagnostics to consumer health devices to surgical robotics. Throughout her career, she has focused on designing health technologies for low resource settings, and has designed products and services for users in over 20 countries. Equally comfortable across product development from early stage needfinding all the way through manufacturing, she's excited to bring Equalize Health's products through the journey to deliver impact to our users. When she's not working for Equalize Health, Elizabeth enjoys teaching theology and manufacturing, hiking, and playing basketball.

Enock Musyoka

As the East Africa Business Development Manager, Enock is tasked with growing and actualizing the East Africa portfolio. Enock is contributing his expertise in design research to conduct market research and competitive analyses in preparation for high impact launch of Equalize Health's products. He has, over the past 7 years, cultivated strategic relationships and established alliances with local governments and key opinion leaders across Sub-Saharan Africa, which are key to supporting sustainable distribution of Equalize Health's products. Previously, Enock was the Africa Region Relationship Lead at Medic Mobile. Before that, He worked at Frontline:SMS as a Software Developer and a Project Manager. Enock holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Information Technology from the Kenya Methodist University. He is a 2020 East Africa Acumen fellow. Enock is committed to building health innovations that impact social change by creating channels for underserved populations to access quality health care and lead dignified lives. Outside of work, He enjoys cooking, cycling, hiking, attempting home DIY product development and spending time with his wife and two kids.

Eric Cao

As Equalize Health's Electrical and Firmware Design Engineer, Eric tests and validates the new products developed by Equalize Health. He also collaborates with Equalize Health's manufacturing partners around the world to ensure the designs are production ready. Eric holds an MSE from the University of California Santa Cruz. He has worked with computer engineers and data scientists to create a low-cost energy monitoring device to help improve the reliability of the electric grid. Eric grew up in San Francisco, California. He joined Equalize Health in order to help develop low-cost, easily accessible solutions to issues that benefit the masses. Outside of work, Eric enjoys watching TV shows, photography, and doing various home improvement projects.

Gauri Singh

As Equalize Health's Commercial Manager, Gauri manages Equalize Health's global and regional market strategies, commercial partnerships, and business analytics for both new and existing products. She has experience developing and executing business strategies including new product launch assessments, strategic partnerships, and sales force effectiveness. Gauri focuses on maximizing the reach of Equalize Health's products and helps ensure that product development is driven by realistic market insights. Gauri is a graduate of the Indian School of Business, where she majored in Marketing and Strategy & Leadership. Prior to joining Equalize Health, Gauri worked with Johnson & Johnson Medical, Novartis Pharma, and Eli Lilly. Gauri is originally from Agra, India. Having experienced the huge gap between demand and supply in the Indian healthcare system, she sees herself as a player in the global transformation, leveraging technology and social capital to narrow down healthcare disparities. When Gauri isn't working, she goes on solo backpacking trips, watches theatre, and volunteers for cancer patient support groups.

Geneva Goldwood

Her projects have included implants and instruments for spine surgery, point-of-care diagnostics, low-cost medical devices, and water treatment products. Geneva is passionate about solving overlooked problems and was drawn to Equalize Health for its emphasis on user-centered design and impact-driven innovation. Geneva holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The George Washington University. Based in Tacoma, Washington, Geneva loves hiking in the Cascade and Olympic mountains, sailing on the Puget Sound, exploring the US via road trip, and DIYing home improvements with her partner.

Howard Clowes

Howard is a partner at the law firm of DLA Piper. He has been practicing at DLA (and its predecessor firms) San Francisco and Palo Alto offices for over 35 years advising clients in the Life Sciences and technology industries on mergers and acquisitions, public and private financings, and corporate collaborations. Howard has the opportunity to advise numerous Boards of Directors on governance matters ranging from good governance practices to respond to proxy contests. He is interested in applying his experiences to assisting not-for-profit organizations in a range of matters. Howard served in various roles in law firm management including on its Executive Committee and as the managing partner of the Transactions practice. He is a Lecturer at Berkeley Law, University of California, teaching International Business Negotiations - a practicum in which Stanford and Berkeley law students negotiate a complex transaction during the semester. Howard is a board member of the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley (LFSV) and has served as President of LFSV, as Chair of the CEO Search Committee and of the Strategic Planning Committee. LFSV uses the law to address social injustice and is the largest provider of legal assistance to the underprivileged in Silicon Valley. Janene Fuerch

As Equalize Health's Consulting Medical Director, Janene guides clinical and medical strategy for the organization. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics / Neonatal and Developmental Medicine at Stanford Children's Hospital. Janene holds a B.S. from Brown University (Neuroscience) and MD from the Jacobs School of Medicine at SUNY Buffalo. She completed her Pediatrics Residency, Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship and Biodesign Innovation Fellowship at Stanford University. Beyond her clinical experience, she has conducted research in the areas of simulation, behavioral medicine, human factors, and neonatal resuscitation. Janene is an advisor to several start-ups serving neonatal patients and is also the Co-Founder of EMME, a medical device company focused on improving women's reproductive health. Originally from Lewiston, NY (just north of Buffalo) she always dreamed of being a pediatrician and traveling the world. Jim Stout

Dr. Stout is a Professor of Pediatrics and Adjunct Professor of Health Services at the University of Washington. For over two decades he has practiced general pediatrics with a focus on asthma care at the Odessa Brown Children's Clinic, a satellite of Seattle Children's Hospital, and newborn medicine at University of Washington Medical Center. He leads a group at UW called interactive Medical Training Resources (iMTR) which focuses on developing, evaluating, and disseminating online tools for health care procedural training and physiologic monitoring. The flagship program is Spirometry 360, an online spirometry training and feedback program, which has been delivered to hundreds of practices and study sites domestically and internationally. This work led to collaboration with UW's Computer Science Engineering group. Working with engineers and other physicians, he is helping to create a smart phone-based spirometer that uses the microphone as the physiologic sensor, known as SpiroSmart. Additionally, Dr. Stout is an investigator for BiliCam, a smartphone based remote monitoring application to estimate newborn jaundice by deriving a bilirubin level from a digital image. His other research focus involves understanding the impact of Community Health Worker home visits in reducing health disparities, integrating this work with primary care, and supporting its dissemination through remote training technologies.

Jimmy (Jean Jose) Nzau is a physician and a global health practitioner with more than fifteen years' experience in Global North and South both in humanitarian and development settings. Dr Jimmy is the Project Director of a large initiative in Reproductive Maternal Newborn and Child health, supporting health systems, community based and civil society organizations in more than 13 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, and Asia. Over the past Five years, Dr Jimmy successfully led a team that was able to challenge existing social structures and systems to ensure that reproductive rights of women, girls, and marginalized communities are fulfilled in some of the most challenging places such as eastern of DRCongo, Northern of Nigeria, Northern of Syria, South Sudan, Chad, and Uganda. Krishnakumar has over 30 years of experience in Indian Healthcare across medical device products, sales, and marketing for medical technology and healthcare consulting. Before joining Equalize Health, Krishnakumar was Executive Director in the Health Industries team of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) India, Marketing Manager in Hospimedica International New Delhi and Senior Scientific Officer at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He has also been an Intern at One Medicare UK. Krishnakumar is originally from Madras (now called Chennai) in India. He joined Equalize Health since it allows him to combine his passion for improving health outcomes with his experience in medical technology product development, sales and marketing, and health system design. Krista holds a B.E. from Vanderbilt University as well as a M.S.E. (Product Design), M.S.M.E., and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. She has driven innovation in product design, engineering, and international development for more than 15 years. Her doctoral work was among the first to focus on engineering and social entrepreneurship in less industrialized economies. Before joining Equalize Health, Krista was a Diplomacy Fellow in the U.S. Department of State's American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and then worked as a Design Engineer for KickStart International in Nairobi, Kenya. Her leadership has won acclaim as one of Fast Company's Co.Design 50 Designers Shaping the Future, a TED speaker, and a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. Krista has been a Rainer Arnhold Fellow and a Pop!Tech Social Innovation Fellow, and she has been featured in the New York Times. Krista is originally from Halifax, Canada. She joined Equalize Health because she loves combining technical engineering and good design to solve difficult problems, and wanted to help Equalize Health take that a step further through emphasizing impact. Her favorite aspect of her job is meeting people, whether it's global health leaders or doctors and nurses working hard in the hospitals that use Equalize Health's products. Kristin Gilliss Moyer

Lakshmi is originally from the beautiful state of Kerala in India but has lived in Mumbai and Delhi for education and work. Lakshmi holds a Master of Technology degree in Biotechnology and comes with more than six years of experience in operations management, data analytics, and stakeholder management in the corporate and development sector. She has worked on two leading national level projects for improving health outcomes in the private sector space for Tuberculosis in India. Before joining Equalize Health she has worked with Clinton Health Access Initiative, Indegene Lifesystems and Biotron Healthcare in the diagnostic sector for infectious diseases and cancer. Friends and family love her for her calm and friendly nature but sometimes get irked because of her over-obsession with keeping things organized. She has led global teams of medical professionals spearheading innovation, due diligence, clinical trials (ranging from novel drug products, biologics, medical devices and drug-device combinations including being a principal investigator), safety evaluations, product development and key opinion leader management. She has served as an executive of the medical function at multinational companies such as Becton Dickinson and Kimberly Clark and Chief Medical Officer of Senseonics, Histogenics and most recently X4 Pharmaceuticals. She has research expertise in development governance, socio-economic, health and cognitive surveys, social needs and impact assessment with a focus on Public health, urban poverty alleviation, Labour Migration and Livelihood, Tribal and peasant societies, Urban slums, Domestic workers, Gender equality, Maternal and Child Health, Family Planning and Contraceptive Technology Innovation. Madhumita holds a PhD in Anthropology from Calcutta University. She has been the University topper in Undergraduate and rank holder in Postgraduation. She grew up in the City of Joy, Kolkata, and travelled extensively for work in different states of India. She loves Indian Classical music and enjoys singing. Mayur Sirdesai
