Adam comes to Dermacare as a fresh college graduate all the way from Penn State University. He received his bachelor's degree in Telecommunications and Media Management. Born and raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania, he traveled across the country post-college to sunny San Diego and has never looked back.
Adam enjoys all things relating to the aesthetics and cosmetics industries. He believes in our message of revealing beauty from within, feeling as fabulous on the outside as you do on the inside. He has a passion for content creation, coming to Dermacare with a strong skillset in incorporating videography, photography, and social media strategy to engage an audience. He has a keen eye for detail, making him a perfect fit as our new Marketing Coordinator.
In his free time, Adam likes to smother his kitty Maximus with love, travel with his partner Cameron, and explore San Diego's finest restaurants and night spots. He loves making new connections when he's out and about. Adam is excited to join the Dermacare family and we are looking forward to seeing him flourish.

Carolyn studied nursing at Biola University and has been a nurse for nearly 4 decades and is a Dermacare employee since its early existence.
Prior to working at Dermacare, she worked in labor and delivery, home health, case management, and as a school nurse. As a case manager, Carolyn was no longer working hands-on with patients, so she made the transition to cosmetic medicine for the opportunity to return to actively participating in the regular treatment of patients. She joined Dr. Birchall and the Dermacare medical staff on their journey to provide what were ground-breaking treatments at the time and hasn't looked back since!
At Dermacare, Carolyn primarily administers laser and PRP treatments but also provides BOTOX® injections. She loves the beauty industry and believes true beauty is displaying an attitude of love, joy, and peace. In her free time, Carolyn loves hiking, traveling with her husband, spending time with her three sons, going to the gym, going to church, and leading Bible study.

Dr. Birchall is a board-certified physician with more than 25 years of medical experience and more than a decade working with cosmetic treatments.
Dr. Birchall is a member of the American Society of Cosmetic Physicians, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and the Allergan Advisory Board. He achieved Black Diamond status for administering BOTOX® and JUVÉDERM® injections, being recognized among the top quarter of the Top 1% of more than 40,000 providers in the country. Additionally, Dr. Birchall has also been recognized as a Black Diamond provider for Fraxel® laser skin rejuvenation, a Top 25 Colorescience® Partner, a Top 100 provider for Sculptra® Aesthetic, and a Premier Partner for CoolSculpting. He is constantly researching and utilizing the latest technology to achieve the best possible results. When Dr. Birchall is not working, you can find him spending time with his family, being involved with his church, and of course, playing hockey.

Rica Davis, FNP-C, is Dermacare's most senior mid-level provider and brings a wealth of diverse patient care experience to our practice.
Born in Ohio but raised in Texas, Rica's bright smile and southern charm fill the hearts of the Dermacare staff and our patients. Rica completed her undergraduate degree at Texas Tech University in May 2003, where she majored in Communications, Technical Writing, and Spanish. Rica's undergraduate education only better positioned her to take on nursing school at the University of Toledo Medical Center, where she worked in the Trauma/Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and later started to specialize in Pediatric Emergency Medicine as a Nurse Practitioner.
Rica's passion for helping children and families led her to her next journey at the nationally ranked and largest children's hospital in California, Rady's Children's Hospital. At Rady's, Rica spent countless hours caring for sick children and their families in San Diego, treating everything from bumps and sniffles to emergency life-threatening conditions. While she describes her time taking care of children as one of the most rewarding chapters of her life, a door opened in the aesthetic health care industry for Rica when she came in for treatment at Dermacare.
After becoming acquainted with Dr. Birchall, he soon offered her a position as a provider at both of our Carlsbad and Rancho Bernardo clinics. Turning her developing passion for skin care, Botox/Dysport, and filler into her career, Rica accepted the position in the earlier part of 2019. From there, she continued training and furthering her education to become an injectable and laser expert. Rica continues to build a portfolio of impressive results and outcomes with her growing list of loyal clientele.
Sara Bockhold is leading our San Juan Capistrano team with an extensive medical background and deep passion for aesthetics. Sara received her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis and majored in NPB (neurology, physiology and biology). While working as an EMT and scribe in the emergency room, Sara discovered a passion for helping patients while discovering the beauty of human anatomy. Her passion for medicine and desire to help people led her to the aesthetic industry and eventually into the welcoming arms of the Dermacare brand.

Born and raised in San Diego, Valerie is Dermacare's Marketing Director.
Valerie has a bachelor's degree in Journalism with an emphasis in media studies from San Diego State University, and has been managing social media channels and creating content for brands for over 10 years. She manages Dermacare's internal and external marketing campaigns and helps advise and coach our staff on how to best promote and represent Dermacare.
She loves being the woman behind the curtain of Dermacare's Instagram stories, and loves project managing Dermacare's semi-annual Open House events. Valerie loves writing, cooking, and petting any type of animal that crosses her path.
