Dixie Precast, Inc. was established in 1962 as a manufacturer of architectural and structural precast concrete. After ten years in business, Dixie Precast, at the request of Southern Railway (predecessor of present day Norfolk Southern), developed a line of precast concrete foundations for railroad signals. The foundations that were found to be of a higher quality than other available products. Due to the quality workmanship and economical cost, by 1975, Dixie was the sole supplier to Southern Railway and the Seaboard Coast Line (predecessor of CSX).
