Geoff Arnott

Geoff graduated from the University of Tasmania in 1981 and was admitted as a Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in April 1983. After graduating, Geoff commenced his career with Brown Ware & Hay in Hobart, but the opportunity soon arose to return to Launceston to join Douglas & Collins. He became a partner of the firm in January 1987. Geoff has a general commercial practice, which involves the following work: Business/property sales and acquisitions; Business structuring and asset protection, business succession planning; Property development and subdivisions; Preparing Wills and advising on estate planning issues; and Leases and other commercial/business matters. Geoff is a past Chairman of the Taxation Institute (Tasmanian Division), a former National Councillor of the Institute and was a member of the state council for many years. He delivered training in Contract Law and Property Law for the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania for just under 20 years, was a council member of the Law Society of Tasmania, a board member of Residential Services for the Intellectually Disabled Inc., and a past board member of the Greens Beach Golf Club Inc. Currently, Geoff is a council member of the Tasmanian Division of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a Director of the Clifford Craig Foundation.

Isaac Anderson

Isaac graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelors of Arts and Law in 2016 before completing practical legal training the following year. After being admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania, Isaac returned to Launceston to practice for another local firm for four years before having a period working in local government. He commenced with Douglas and Collins in October 2021. Isaac has a general commercial practice and advises on a variety of matters, including commercial and residential conveyancing, leases, business sales/acquisitions and estate planning and administration. After growing up in Launceston, Isaac has been involved in local sport since his return to the city, including acting as president for the Launceston Rugby Union Club since 2018, being appointed to the board of the Tasmanian Rugby Union and refereeing for the Launceston Touch Association.

Jeremy Harris

Jeremy graduated from Deakin University in Melbourne with a Bachelor of Laws with honours. After relocating to Tasmania Jeremy completed his practical legal training and obtained a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law prior to being admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania in 2020. Before joining Douglas and Collins in August 2022 Jeremy worked at another Launceston law firm. Jeremy practices in Property and Commercial matters and Wills and Estate Planning. Jeremy has acted for individuals and corporations in the following types of matters: Commercial, residential and agricultural conveyancing; Subdivisions and Applications under the Land Titles Act 1980 (Tas); Preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and Instruments Appointing Enduring Guardians; and Estate administration.

Kai Beyerle

Kai has a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in Law and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the University of Tasmania. He is admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania and the High Court of Australia. Kai has a general commercial practice. He is experienced in advising clients on a variety of commercial and property law matters, including: Property use and development, including easements, subdivisions and applications to the Land Titles Office; Leasing; Commercial and residential conveyancing; Loan documentation, mortgages and security arrangements; Business acquisitions and disposals; Business structuring and asset protection; Governance, including advising charities, not-for-profits and statutory authorities regarding their constitutions and governing documents, and compliance with legislative requirements; General contract drafting and advice; and Wills, estate planning, and estate administration. With a background in agriculture, Kai has a particular interest in primary industries and regularly assists clients with a range of matters concerning agriculture, forestry, Outside of work, Kai is a director and Vice-Chair of the Clifford Craig Foundation, and a member of the board of Tasdance.

Mathew Williams

Mathew graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2018 with a combined degree in Business and Law, with honours in Law. He was subsequently admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania after obtaining his Graduate Certificate of Legal Practice in 2018. Following admission, Mathew was employed by a Hobart law firm for a number of years before commencing at Douglas & Collins in 2021. Mathew practices in Litigation dealing with a broad range of disputes, and he regularly appears in court as an advocate for his clients. Mathew also provides support to Director, Rohan Foon, on complex matters. Outside of work, Mathew is a board member of the NTFA and umpires football as part of the NTFUA.

Robert Hegarty

Robert graduated from the University of Tasmania in December 2007 with a combined degree in Commerce and Law. He obtained a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the University of Tasmania in 2008. In August 2008, Robert was admitted as a Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania and joined Douglas & Collins as a graduate in February 2009. He became a director of the firm in July 2017. Robert generally practices in property, commercial and estates, and his major areas of practice are: Sales and purchases of residential/commercial/agricultural real estate; Subdivisions and other land title matters; Sales and purchases of business; Leasing; Trusts; Business structuring; Wills and estate planning; and Power of attorney and enduring guardianship. Robert was a past member of the Northern Young Lawyers Committee (2011-2015) and was the committee's Treasurer for 2011/2012. He is currently a member of the Law Society of Tasmania's Council. He is a former member of the Executive of the Law Society and the Society's Property and Commercial Law Committee.

Rohan Foon

Rohan graduated from the University of Tasmania with a combined Bachelor of Economics and Law with First Class Honours in Law in 2004. In 2005, he completed a Graduate Certificate of Legal Practice and was admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. Upon his admission, he spent a year as Associate to the Honourable Justice Crawford of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. Rohan has been a practitioner at Douglas & Collins since August 2006 and became a Director of the firm in January 2013. He practices in Litigation and advises in many areas of the law, including general commercial disputes and estate litigation. He is a former President, Vice President and Treasurer of the Law Society of Tasmania and was a member of the Executive Council of the Law Society of Tasmania from 2013 to 2019. He has been a member of the Council of the Law Society of Tasmania since 2010. Sam Claessens

Sam graduated from the University of Tasmania with a combined degree in Arts and Law in 2009. He completed his Practical Legal Training in 2010 and is admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania. Prior to joining Douglas and Collins, Sam practiced in another prominent Launceston firm for over eleven years. He commenced with Douglas and Collins in 2023 and brings with him a wealth of experience in the following areas: Wills and Estate Planning Commercial and Residential Sales and Purchases Probate and Estate Administration Commercial and Residential Leasing Business Structuring Trusts General Agricultural Business, Succession and Property related transactions. Sam is a former member and Chairman of the Northern Tasmanian Football Tribunal (2013 - 2020), a formal General Member of the Northern Young Lawyers Committee (2014 -2015) and is a current member of the Council of the Law Society of Tasmania. He is the practice's North-East Representative and attends their Scottsdale office on a weekly basis.

Sarah Pearce

Sarah Pearce graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in Law in 2013. She completed her practical legal training and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania in 2014. She is also admitted to the High Court of Australia. In August 2014, Sarah started working at Douglas & Collins in Litigation and Commercial law. She was the president of the Northern Young Lawyers Committee and the Tasmanian member for the Australian Young Lawyers Forum in 2017. She was a past member of the Northern Tasmanian Football Association disciplinary tribunal. Sarah worked primarily in Litigation, appearing as Counsel in the local Magistrates Court and the Supreme Court of Tasmania until 2019 before transitioning to a Commercial based practice. She now advises in Property and Commercial law transactions including Business Transactions, Commercial and Residential Conveyancing, Property use and development, Leasing, Estate Planning, Wills and Probate matters. Sarah's many years work in the adversarial system informs her advice to her clients, with a focus on keeping matters Commercial whilst providing appropriate risk management recommendations.

Simon Tonks

Simon graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Laws in 2006. He completed the practical legal training course and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania in August 2008. In 2017, Simon graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Graduate Diploma in Employment and Labour Relations Law. In September 2021, Simon started working at Douglas & Collins in the areas of commercial law, property law, estates and employment & industrial law. Prior to Douglas & Collins, Simon worked in-house for a large Tasmanian not-for-profit community services organisation. Simon also worked for another well- established Launceston law firm after being admitted to practise. Outside work, Simon enjoys cycling, SCUBA diving and spending time with his young family.
