Regina Garcia is the owner of Houston's iconic Events Gifts in River Oaks. Her retail career spans over four decades and is built on the principles of philanthropy, community connections and superior customer service. Born into an entrepreneurial family in Bay City, Texas, Garcia was raised in the environment of her family's owned-and-operated restaurant, engraining in her the blueprint for her own success. There, she learned the value of excellent customer service and quality of merchandise. Graduating from The Art Institute of Dallas with a degree in fashion merchandising and design, Garcia went on to hone her concierge customer service and merchandising retail skills while working for Marshall Field's stores across the country and rounded out her department store retail career as the vice president and general manager of multiple Macy's locations, including Macy's The Woodlands, Deerbrook, West Oaks and Downtown Houston. Garcia relocated to El Paso in 2002 to 2005 to open the market with the Cielo Vista store. While there, she and her team trained 300 additional staff associates in preparation for the opening of the second store, Sunland Park. In addition to her custom high-end stationery, an extensive bridal registry and collections of fine china and crystal, her newest category is crystal chandeliers in both modern and classic design from around the world and unique to Houston. Garcia is and always has been passionate about education, the arts and the environment. She dedicates much of her time to benefit all three. She serves on the boards of multiple organizations, including The Downtown Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ3); the Houston Symphony League; United Way Women's Alexis de Coquille Platinum Group, Houston. She is a past board member of The Women's Fund and Houston Arts Alliance and a longtime supporter of The Houston Ballet's annual Nutcracker Market, the Heart Association, The American Cancer Society and Kids Meals. Garcia co-chaired the annual Houston Arts Alliance Intimate Dinner Gala in 2016 and 2017 and was an advisor to the gala chairman in 2018. She co-chaired Memorial Herman Hospital's Razzle Dazzle Breast Cancer Luncheon in 2017, making it one of the most successful events for Memorial Herman Foundation. Additionally, Events Gifts is an event destination for several charitable functions held annually throughout the year. Garcia was recognized with the Emerging Hispanic Business of the Year Award in 2016 from The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She was also one of nine retail innovators given the Salute To Retail 2018 Award by the University of Houston School of Retail and Consumer Science. The nine are considered the driving force in the future of retailing in Houston.
