Jenna M. Selander

Dr. Selander joined Eye Care and Surgery in 2023 after completing her ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where she received high level training in routine and complex cataract surgery, glaucoma, and medical retina. Dr. Selander studied Medical Biology and Latin American History at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine and completed her Osteopathic Medical Degree at VCOM in Blacksburg,Virginia. She has a special interest in global ophthalmology and has participated in several medical volunteer missions including those to Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Peru. She looks forward to continuing her involvement in global ophthalmology and volunteering. Outside of ophthalmology, Dr. Selander enjoys spending time with her family and dog ( named Winston) , playing tennis, soccer, hiking, and pick-up basketball. Dr. Selander is happy to be accepting new patients.

Kari H. Boothe

Dr. Boothe joined Eye Care & Surgery in July 2009. She graduated cum Laude from Radford University and attended Indiana University School of Optometry. She completed a residency in primary care optometry at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Kevin T. Coolbaugh

Dr. Kevin Coolbaugh joined Eye Care & Surgery in 1996. After graduating from the University of Houston - College of Optometry, he completed optometric residency at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Coolbaugh trained with leading specialists in ophthalmology and gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of eye disease. He is married to Dr. Shari Coolbaugh and they have four children. In addition to his church involvement, Dr. Coolbaugh enjoys photography and spending time with his children and helps coach their youth sports.

Richard R. Johnson

Dr. Johnson started practicing Ophthalmology in Southwest Virginia in 1993 after completing medical School at the University of Virginia graduating with honors in the AOA medical society in 1988. After an internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, he completed his residency training at the Medical College of Virginia, now VCU, in 1992. Dr Johnson is involved with his church, First Baptist Church Roanoke. He enjoys Bible study, time with his family, reading, water sports, boating and the beach. Dr. Johnson has been married to the love of his life, Christy, for 31 years. He and his wife have two sons, Jared and Josh, and are his best friends outside of his wife. Dr. Johnson truly feels that any and all family time is a blessing. His young sons are now grown men whom he is very proud of. One son is finishing law school and the other works at the Salem VA. Dr. Johnson feels blessed to care for patients and develop relationships with them. They often give back so much more by their love and loyalty. His trust is in the Lord.

Sarah M. Driscoll

Dr. Driscoll attended Virginia Tech before completing her Doctor of Optometry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. She then completed a residency with emphasis in Ocular Disease and Primary Eye Care at the Salem VA Medical Center. Dr. Driscoll earned a fellowship with the American Academy of Optometry and is Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry. She is a member of the Contact Lens and Cornea Section of the American Academy of Optometry and is actively involved in the Virginia Optometric Association. Her areas of expertise include: ocular disease (glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration), contact lenses (soft contact lenses, myopia control, scleral lenses) and pediatrics. Dr. Driscoll is from Roanoke, VA and is excited to serve her hometown. Dr. Driscoll is engaged, her fiancé is a member of the Virginia National Guard. Shari L. Coolbaugh

Dr. Shari Coolbaugh joined Eye Care & Surgery in 1996. She attended Texas A&M University and then completed her optometric studies at the University of Houston - College of Optometry. Shari is married to Dr. Kevin Coolbaugh and they have four children. She is very active with her church, enjoys traveling, and playing tennis.

William M. Thompson

Dr. Thompson joined Eye Care & Surgery in 2003 after completing his college, medical school, and ophthalmology training at the University of Virginia. He is a native of Roanoke and attended Roanoke Catholic School. He and his wife, Beni, have 5 children. They are active members of OLPH Catholic Church in Salem and are active volunteers at Roanoke Catholic School. Dr. Thompson enjoys playing in the Roanoke Adult Soccer League and playing golf.
