Dr. M. Cecilia Kühn

Specialisation: food regulatory compliance for the food industry; compliance information specialist Background: Dr. Kühn has worked for the private and public food sectors for more than 25 years (Unilever, Koikeya Company, DSM, CSM, Cosun, CSK food ingredients, Taiyo Kagaku; German Federal Research Centre, Oregon State University). In the food industry, she has worked in finished foods, intermediates and ingredients; functional and conventional foods for consumer and industrial markets. Dr. Kühn is adjunct food law researcher and lecturer at Wageningen University. Degrees: PhD in food technology at the Technical University of Munich, Germany; MSc. in food science and technology with minor in nutrition at Oregon State University, USA; B.Sc. In Biochemistry at McGill University, Canada. Publications: Dr. Kühn has published books, articles, chaired food conferences. She has lectured trained at companies in Europe, USA, Japan and South Korea. She is guest lecturer at Wageningen University on food regulatory affairs. Dr. Onno Korver

Background: Dr. Korver was Head of the Unilever Nutrition Centre and Unilever's global chief nutrition scientist for 20 years. He was during this period member of the Board of the National Nutrition Foundation (advisor to the Health Minister in the Netherlands), board member at ILSI Europe and Secretary/Treasurer of the European Academy of Nutritional Sciences. He is one of the founding members of the European Nutrition Leadership Program, where he is still active as a Board Member. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of EUFIC'd Scientific Advisory Forum and chair of the Medical Ethical Committee of Wageningen University. Dr. Korver was responsible for the safety clearance and scientific substantiation of claims for Unilever's food products. He also successfully obtained Novel and Health claims for products, that helped establish the Becel Pro Active health food brand for Unilever. He was a pioneer in dealing with authorities to develop procedures in the areas of Novel and functional foods. He is main author of ‘The Functional Foods Dossier' (ISBN 9058590046), an industrial guide on the preparation of the European health claim dossier.

Dr. Russell Ward

Background: Dr. Ward has more than 20 years of experience in the food industry. He has been VP Research & Development for Sara Lee/Douwe Egberts in the Netherlands; Product Development Director at Danone for dairy products in Central and Eastern Europe; and has worked for Reckitt Benckiser and for Unilever developing products for China, Brazil, Indonesia and Eastern European markets. Degrees: Dr. Ward studied chemistry in the UK, received his B.Sc. from the University of Nottingham, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Bristol.
