Alicia Mandac (she/her/hers) brings 15+ years of experience in higher education to the Fung Institute. Prior to joining the team in October 2021, she led undergraduate student services in the Department of Economics and worked as a college advisor in the College of Letters and Science Undergraduate Advising Office at UC Berkeley. Her passion for supporting students' personal and professional growth stems from her first campus job as an academic peer advisor at UC Santa Barbara, where she earned her bachelor's degree. She holds a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and a coaching certificate from Georgetown University. Her goal is to provide transformative coaching and career services that will help FI students thrive for many years to come!
On campus, she is involved in the Cal Coaching Network and has served as a mentor for the Berkeley Staff Assembly Mentorship Program. Outside of work, you can find her teaching yoga, exploring the East Bay food scene, and enjoying time with family and friends.

Anita is a technology product leader with more than 10 years of experience in building technology products that delight the customer both in the B2B and B2C domain. She is also an adjunct faculty at UC Berkeley, teaching and coaching hi-tech product management. She is currently the founder of an early stage ed-tech startup. Most recently she led the digital customer experience practice at Cisco Systems, designing and launching enterprise solutions for customer experience. Prior to that, she led the product team at WalmartLabs launching products that combine machine learning, predictive analytics and personalization. She consults independently and on the board of technology startups in the advertising, ecommerce, and ed-tech space. Anita received her MS in toxicology and applied statistics, and an MBA, both from the University of California, Berkeley.

Anthony D. Joseph is a Chancellor's Professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley. He joined the UC Berkeley faculty in 1998 and is a core faculty member of the Center for Computational Biology. At Berkeley he is developing adaptive techniques for: large-scale genomics, cloud/edge computing, network and computer security, and security defenses for machine learning-based decision systems. He also co-leads the DETERlab testbed, a secure scalable testbed for conducting cybersecurity research. He received his B.S., S.M., and Ph.D. Degrees in Computer Science from MIT, and is a member of IEEE, ACM, and USENIX. He was elected to serve as a Member-At-Large on the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Council from 2008 to 2012, and he was a member of the Defense Science Study Group from 2004 to 2005. He was a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Martin Luther King Jr. Visiting Scholar in 2004 and 2005, a Nokia Foundation Visiting Fellow in 2004, and received the Diane McEntyre Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007.

Babak is an engineering economist. He thinks engineering is about economic solutions to the technical challenges of an uncertain world. He has worked as a senior analyst in energy industry, supporting investment decisions for multi-million-dollar projects across the globe. He is also an industry expert, and an assistant professor of petroleum engineering at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. He teaches and conducts research on the art and science of economic decision analysis.
Babak's interests are at the intersection of decision analysis and corporate finance, with applications in engineering and industry. He is the author of the upcoming book "Economic Decision Analysis." He holds a PhD in Investment and Decisions Analysis (University of Stavanger, Norway) as well as MSc and BSc degrees in industrial engineering.

Bradley has extensive experience managing all student affairs operations for very diverse graduate student degree programs. His past responsibilities include: faculty engagement, academic and career counseling, curriculum planning and class scheduling, enrollment management, admissions and strategic recruitment, event planning, degree audits, and applying specialized expertise to identify and resolve complex student issues.
Bradley has an MS in Counseling with an emphasis in higher education and a BA in Social Ecology. Outside of work, Bradley teaches a graduate level course at SF State and enjoys educating rising college counselors about higher education and student development theories. Bradley lives in the East Bay with his partner and enjoys visiting local bookstores and coffee shops.
Brian Howell is currently a PhD student in the Multiphysics Simulation and Optimization Laboratory in Mechanical Engineering. His research interests lie in non-convex optimization, numerical simulation, and materials science. His current work aims to develop optimization schemes for numerical simulations for UV-curing kinetics in advanced manufacturing. Previously, he worked as a staff scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 4 1/2 years where he worked on simulation, optimization, hardware and chemical formulation for 3D printing, and at Google's X the Moonshot Factory where he worked as an AI resident in materials optimization.

Cal is a seasoned attorney with significant government, regulatory, investigative and in-house experience. He served as a trial attorney with the US Department of Justice and as an enforcement attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He is currently an Executive Director in Morgan Stanley's Legal and Compliance Division, and Deputy Head of the Special Investigations Unit, where he leads, manages, and supervises internal investigations across the Firm's Wealth Management business. He is an active member of the American Bar Association, currently serving as Chair of the ABA's Council for Diversity in the Educational Pipeline, and previously serving on the ABA's Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Legal Profession. Cal received his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley and a law degree at UCLA.

Dan Himelstein has been a senior executive in both academia and business and has worked in a variety of organizational settings, ranging from the large and complex to the small and entrepreneurial. In the business world, Dan has extensive international experience, having worked with numerous start-ups as a founder, executive, director, and consultant and in a number of corporate settings as well.
In academia, Dan is currently a faculty member at the University of California, Berkeley's Haas School of Business and the College of Engineering's Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership. He has also held key leadership posts at UC Berkeley and the University of San Francisco. At Berkeley, he has served as the Executive Director of the Haas School's Undergraduate Program and as the Associate Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Facilities in the Office of the Chancellor. At USF, he was the Executive Associate Dean at the School of Management.
Dan received his BS from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and his MSc from The London School of Economics.

Dr. Achin Bhowmik is the chief technology officer and executive vice president of engineering at Starkey Hearing Technologies, a privately-held medical devices business with 6,000 employees and operations in over 100 countries worldwide. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the company's technology strategy, product development and engineering departments, and is leading the drive to redefine medical wearable devices with advanced sensors and artificial intelligence technologies.
Prior to joining Starkey, Dr. Bhowmik was vice president and general manager of the Perceptual Computing Group at Intel Corporation. There, he was responsible for the R&D, engineering, operations, and businesses in the areas of 3D sensing and interactive computing, computer vision and artificial intelligence, autonomous robots and drones, and immersive virtual and merged reality devices. Previously, he served as the chief of staff of the Personal Computing Group, Intel's largest business unit with >$30B annual revenues in 2010.
As an adjunct professor and guest lecturer, Dr. Bhowmik advises graduate research and teaches courses on human-computer interactions and perceptual computing technologies at the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, Liquid Crystal Institute of the Kent State University, Kyung Hee University, Seoul, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar.
Dr. Bhowmik was elected a Fellow of the Society for Information Display (SID). He serves on the board of advisors for the Fung Institute for Engineering Leadership at UC Berkeley, the executive board for SID, and the board of directors for OpenCV. He also serves on the board of directors and advisors for several technology startup companies. He received the Industrial Distinguished Leader Award from the Asia-Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association. He has over 200 publications, including two books and 34 issued patents.

Dr. Venkata (Murthy) M. Renduchintala is group president of the Technology, Systems Architecture & Client Group and chief engineering officer at Intel Corporation. The group is responsible for aligning technology, engineering, product design and business direction to extend Intel's strategy and speed execution across the client device and IoT segments - all core to growth in the smart and connected compute era. Renduchintala's group brings together Intel's Platform Engineering, Client Computing, IoT, Software and Services, and Design and Technology Solutions as they share a common set of technologies required for client/mobile System on Chip (SoC) and connectivity leadership.
Renduchintala has spent a substantial part of his career in the SoC, mobile and IoT areas. Prior to joining Intel, he was executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies Inc. and co-president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, where he led its semiconductor business in the computing and mobile segments. He joined Qualcomm in 2004 from Skyworks Solutions Inc./Conexant Systems Inc., where he was vice president and general manager of the company's Cellular Systems Division. Prior to Skyworks, he spent a decade with Philips Electronics, where he progressed to become vice president of engineering for its consumer communications business.
Renduchintala holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, a master's degree in business administration and a Ph.D. in digital communications from the University of Bradford in England.

Elizabeth Kovats teaches innovation and design at Berkeley Haas. She has created new courses at Berkeley Haas and BerkeleyLaw in the area of design thinking. Elizabeth served as the Director of the Berkeley Roundtable on Applied Innovation and Design, BRAID, and she regularly collaborates with innovation executives based in Silicon Valley. Her area of interest is in design and ethics, and how we can design products and/or processes to advance the common good.
Prior to academia, Kovats worked in the high technology industry. Joining a start-up in the telecommunications industry, BigBand Networks, as the eighth employee in the U.S. office, she helped scale operations, ultimately leading to a Company IPO. She attended graduate school at the Jesuit School of Theology, focusing on philosophy and design, and studied creative writing at the University of Arizona and the University of Iowa.

Francesco Borrelli received the `Laurea' degree in computer science engineering in 1998 from the University of Naples `Federico II', Italy. In 2002 he received the PhD from the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH-Zurich, Switzerland. He is currently a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of California at Berkeley, USA. He is the author of more than one hundred fifty publications in the field of predictive control. He is author of the book Predictive Control published by Cambridge University Press, the winner of the 2009 NSF CAREER Award and the winner of the 2012 IEEE Control System Technology Award. In 2016 he was elected IEEE fellow. In 2017 he was awarded the Industrial Achievement Award by the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Council.
Since 2004 he has served as a consultant for major international corporations. He was the founder and CTO of BrightBox Technologies Inc, a company focused on cloud-computing optimization for autonomous systems. He was the co-director of the Hyundai Center of Excellence in Integrated Vehicle Safety Systems and Control at UC Berkeley. He is the founder of WideSense Inc., a company focused on E-Mobility. His research interest are in the area of model predictive control and its application to automated driving and energy systems.

Tsu-Jae King Liu is Dean and Roy W. Carlson Professor of Engineering at UC Berkeley, where she has been a professor in the EECS department since 1996. She is best known for the development of polycrystalline silicon-germanium thin film technology for applications in integrated circuits and microsystems, and for co-developing the three-dimensional "FinFET" transistor design that is used in all leading-edge microprocessor chips today.
She earned her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Before joining the UC Berkeley faculty she worked at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center as a Member of Research Staff. Her awards include the DARPA Significant Technical Achievement Award (2000) for development of the FinFET, the IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Award (2010) for contributions to nanoscale MOS transistors, memory devices, and MEMs devices, the Semiconductor Industry Association Outstanding Researcher Award (2014), and the Semiconductor Research Corporation Aristotle Award (2016). She has authored or co-authored over 500 publications and holds over 90 patents. Liu is a Fellow of the IEEE, an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Intel Corporation.
