Dr. Andrew Feinberg

Andrew Feinberg is a highly respected board-certified, fellowship-trained, ophthalmologist who is well trained in all disciplines of comprehensive ophthalmology and specializes in LASIK and other corneal surgery. Dr. Feinberg serves as Medical Director of the Eye Surgery Center of Georgia, our state of the art ambulatory surgery center. He performs surgery at Eye Surgery Center of Georgia as well as Emory Midtown Hospital and performs LASIK surgery at our very own refractive surgery center. He also serves patients at our Midtown and Northside locations. He currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology for his alma mater Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Feinberg is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Eugene Gabianelli

Dr. Eugene Gabianelli, a board-certified, highly respected, ophthalmologist, has practiced in Atlanta since 1992, and founded Georgia Eye Partners in 1999. His primary areas of focus are LASIK, cataract and corneal transplantation surgery.

Dr. Gagan Sawhney

Dr. Gagan Sawhney is a board-certified, highly respected, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery as well as the medical and surgical management of glaucoma from early to advanced disease. His clinical expertise includes evaluation of patients suspicious for glaucoma, laser surgery for glaucoma, management of coexisting cataracts and glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, trabeculectomy, and glaucoma drainage device implantation. He is also trained in all disciplines of comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Sawhney was one of the first glaucoma surgeons in Atlanta to incorporate minimally invasive glaucoma surgery into his glaucoma-surgical practice. He specializes in the iStent inject, Hydrus microstent, Kahook Dual Blade, and the Xen gel stent. Dr. Sawhney is an active member of the community working in partnership with healthcare providers in the management of complex glaucoma patients. He performs surgery at Eye Surgery Center of Georgia, our state of the art ambulatory surgery center, as well as Marietta Surgical Center and Emory Midtown Hospital. He also serves patients at our Northside, Midtown and Woodstock locations. Having a particular interest in clinical research and medical education, Dr. Sawhney has published scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented his research at national meetings. Dr. Sawhney is actively involved in clinical glaucoma research. After completing his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Sawhney completed both his ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the prestigious Emory Eye Center. Dr. Sawhney is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. He performs surgery at Eye Surgery Center of Georgia and Marietta Surgical Center.

Dr. Josh Johnston

Dr. Josh Johnston has a clinical focus in dry eye disease. In his current role, Dr. Johnston serves as the Clinical Director and Residency Director at Georgia Eye Partners, where he also leads the Dry Eye Center of Excellence.

Dr. Karen Sumers

Dr. Karen Sumers, a highly respected board certified, fellowship trained, ophthalmologist, is fully trained in all aspects of medical ophthalmic care and surgery, and is recognized as a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of corneal and external eye disease, including severe dry eye syndrome. Dr. Sumers received her undergraduate degree in General Literature at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, graduating magna cum laude. She earned a medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, followed by an internal medicine internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Sumers completed an ophthalmology residency at the prestigious University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, where she was awarded the Jack P. Cowen Outstanding Clinician prize. Following a fellowship in corneal and external eye disease at Emory University in Atlanta, Dr. Sumers went into private practice, becoming the first ophthalmologist in Atlanta to have a consultative corneal and external eye disease practice outside the university setting. Dr. Sumers is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the Cornea Society, and a past president of the Atlanta Ophthalmology Society. She has been an investigator for the Cornea Donor Study. As an Adjunct Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory, she has been volunteering her time teaching cataract surgery to residents at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center for over twenty years. In addition, following many years of service, Dr. Sumers received the Lifetime Volunteer Physician Award from EyeCare America, a program of the Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, which provides eye exams to seniors at no cost to them. She is a supporter of several local charitable organizations including the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation and the Georgia Lions Lighthouse. When not working, she enjoys spending time with family, traveling, drawing, painting, photography, and golf. Dr. Karen Sumers, a highly respected board certified ophthalmologist, is fully trained in all aspects of medical ophthalmic care and surgery, and is recognized as a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of corneal and external eye disease.

Dr. Nichelle Warren

Dr. Nichelle Warren is a board-certified, highly respected, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract, refractive and corneal surgery. She remains on the cusp of the latest technologies and research in anterior segment surgeries. As a result of her research she won the Helma Award for outstanding research during her residency at the Medical University of South Carolina (residency program ranked #9 by Ophthalmology Times). Dr. Warren received further sub-specialty training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery from Emory University. She is well versed in treating Fuch's dystrophy and other causes of corneal edema. She is one of a few surgeons performing Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) which allows for faster visual recovery, and lower rates of rejection. She also has experience in treating keratoconus, complex cataract and corneal diseases. Dr. Warren offers premium intraocular lenses, astigmatism correction, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, and various methods of corneal transplants.

Dr. Philip Garza

Dr. Philip Garza is a board-certified, fellowship-trained glaucoma and cataract surgeon. He specializes in the marriage of modern glaucoma surgery with advanced technology cataract surgery. He offers complete medical and surgical care for glaucoma and performs the full range of glaucoma surgery techniques, from glaucoma laser procedures and state-of-the-art minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) techniques to traditional procedures like tube-shunt surgery and trabeculectomy. Dr. Garza graduated summa cum laude from the University of Miami, where he was inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He is a proud graduate of the Emory University School of Medicine, where he was awarded the Correll Foundation scholarship and elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He received his M.D. magna cum laude in conjunction with a Master of Science degree in Clinical Research as part of a dual-degree program sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Garza went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned W. K. Kellogg Eye Center of the University of Michigan, followed by a year of intensive glaucoma clinical and surgical fellowship training at Stanford University's Byers Eye Institute. Dr. Garza is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American Glaucoma Society. As a trained clinical scientist, his research has been published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Glaucoma, and other medical journals. He remains active in clinical research and is able to advise patients on the availability and trajectory of clinical trials in glaucoma. Dr. Garza lives in Atlanta with his wife Nina, a hospital medicine physician. They enjoy hiking, cycling, travel, electronic music, and culinary adventures.

Dr. Stephen Knight is a highly respected, board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist, with vast experience in all aspects of medical eye care. Dr. Knight is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He was the co-author of a paper published in Ophthalmology, one of the major ophthalmology journals in the world. For over 25 years he served on the teaching faculty at Emory University, attaining the position of Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor. In this capacity, he helped teach the next generation of ophthalmologists some of the finer aspects of cataract surgery, both at the Atlanta Veterans Administration Medical Center and Grady Memorial Hospital. For many years he has volunteered his time and expertise to EyeCare America, providing free eye care to disadvantaged seniors.

Dr. Thomas Edwards

Dr. Thomas Edwards is a board-certified, comprehensive ophthalmologist who has practiced in Atlanta since 1994. After running a very successful solo practice for 21 years, he merged with Georgia Eye Partners in 2021 to expand his footprint and network of subspecialists. Dr. Edwards is well versed in all aspects of comprehensive ophthalmology and has special interest in refractive cataract surgery, including correction of astigmatism and presbyopia. He is on staff at Emory Decatur Hospital and performs surgery at East Atlanta Eye Surgery Center as well as Northlake Surgical Center. Dr. Edwards earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was president of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He remained in Chapel Hill for medical school at UNC School of Medicine on full academic scholarship. Following a transitional internship at UPMC-Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. Edwards is known to his long-time patients as being a skilled communicator who provides a comfortable and compassionate environment for educating, discussing, and planning the care of each patient. Fellow ophthalmologists frequently refer surgical patients to him because of his predictable outcomes and enjoyable patient experiences.
