Anna Wieler

Anna has worked for Access Credit Union for 30 years and is currently the Vice President of Human Resources. She has a passion for working with individuals with an intellectual disability and has been a coach with Special Olympics for over 30 years. Having seen the evolution of Gateway over last few decades, fulfilling their vision and mission, she believes the organization will continue to be vital to enrichment of the lives of adults living with an intellectual disability and wants to contribute to that success. Anna and her husband have three adult children, have always called Winkler home and enjoy spending time with family, friends and volunteering in the community.

Brian Derksen - Chairman

  • Professional Accountant
Brian is a professional accountant and partner in the firm Gislason Targownik Peters. He has a CGA designation and graduated from Briercrest College with a Bachelor's Degree. He enjoys contributing to Gateway Resources by serving on the board of directors. One of his favourite events at Gateway is the annual Christmas concert performance by the clients of the organization. Brian is married and has 4 very cute children - Zane, Paxer, Blaze and Azalea. Brian has been a Board Member since May 2007.

Darin Watson

Job Titles:
  • Director of Infrastructure
Darin joined Gateway Resources in early 2024, as the Director of Infrastructure. Over his career, he has gained experience with a variety of industries including construction, financial, recreation, and telecommunications. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family, working on home projects, and volunteering with a variety of organizations.

Dr. Don Klassen

  • Member of the Board
Dr. Don is a family physician/anesthetist, now semi-retired after working at C.W. Wiebe Medical Centre and Boundary Trails Health Centre for over 45 years. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Manitoba and is currently a physician ambassador with the province's newly created HCRRO (Health Care Retention and Recruitment Office). He is married to Betty; they have 2 married sons, 2 great daughters in law and 5 grandsons, ranging in age 12 to 21. He loves spending time with family, most sports, the cottage at Star Lake, and travel.

George Krahn

Job Titles:

George has been involved in the construction industry for 21+ years. Throughout those years what has been the most rewarding is the relationships that have been made with clients and trades people. Having worked with Gateway on a few building projects in the past he realized more of what the organization is doing for the participants and the community. He is excited to be a part of Gateway that has great leadership throughout and has such a positive impact on all they are a part of. George is married to Susanne and they have 3 wonderful daughters Natalie, Myla & Emily.

Janet Dunn

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Board
Janet and her husband have farmed together near Carman, raising beef cattle and growing a variety of crops for over 35 years. Janet has volunteered at Special Olympics Amigos 5-Pin Bowling for more than 10 years. She enjoys watching the happy faces of everyone cheering one another on. She has also served her church as a Board Member. Janet treasures the time spent with her 4 adult children, and especially with her 5 adorable grandchildren. She enjoys road trips, traveling, baking and watching baseball games. Janet is thankful for Gateway Resources who provides intellectual disabled people with hope, happiness, and a place in their community.

Julie Douma - CHRO

Julie has worked supporting people where they live and work for over 25 years. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, socializing and always laughing.

Kimberly Nelson - CEO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Executive Officer
Kim has been working with adults living with an intellectual disability since she was 18 and has been employed with Gateway Resources since 2003. She is a mom of two young girls who keep her very busy; however, in her spare time family, friends, being outside (only when it's warm), and reading take up the remainder of her free time.

Kyla Scott

Job Titles:
  • Director of Residential Services
Kyla has been employed with Gateway Resources since 2006. She has worked in Residential Services as a Manager and Coordinator before taking over the position of Director of Residential Services. She has two dogs that keep her busy and active outside. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors (in hot weather), gardening, reading and loves to travel whenever she can.

Loni Derksen - COO

Job Titles:
  • Director of Operations
Loni has been employed with Gateway Resources since 2009. He has managed residential homes and the Woodroom before taking over the Director of Operations position. This position is responsible for the Woodroom, Recycling Department, Bus Transportation and Infrastructure which includes Building and Grounds Maintenance.

Marv Dyck

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Board
Marv is a retiree, previously having been employed for 30 years at Kroeker Farms Limited, a large potato and onion farm. He was involved at the Senior Management level, responsibilities included Variety Development, Agronomy, Organic Production, and Quality Assurance. Marv has previously served on the board at Gateway Resources and looks forward to reacquainting himself with the staff, clients, fellow board members, and all the wonderful work that goes on at Gateway. Marv is married to Dorothy, has two adult children, and currently enjoys RVing, and other modes of travel.

Rebekah Baerg

Job Titles:
  • Secretary
Rebekah is a teacher in the Garden Valley School Division. She has spent the last twelve years teaching various grades, overseas and locally, and specializes in teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL). When she is not involved in school activities, she enjoys gardening, walking, camping, reading and spending time with family and friends. Rebekah is excited about the opportunities Gateway Resources provides for those in the community, including family members, and wants to help contribute in some way to the organization. She joined the Gateway Board in 2016.

Tim Hamp

Job Titles:

  • Director of Day Services
Tim began his employ with Gateway Resources in 2009. He has worked in the Day Services department as a Direct Support Professional, Manager, and Coordinator before taking over the Director of Day Services position. He is a parent to two wild young men, which keeps him and his wife engaged outside of work. In his free time, Tim enjoys spending time outdoors, listening to music, reading, creating art, and spending time with family and friends.

Trevor Wiebe - Treasurer

Trevor has worked at Access Credit Union for 12 years and has been a Commercial Account Manager for 11 of those years. He enjoys building relationships with his members and helping them grow their business. He enjoys spending time with his wife Stacy and their three young children. He also enjoys playing and watching most sports, but especially hockey, baseball, and golf. He enjoys giving back to the community and is excited about the opportunities the Gateway Resources Board provides to give back.
