GEBCO

GEBCO is involved in creating and making available data sets and maps showing the shape of the seafloor. Rather than being a flat and featureless plain, the seafloor consists of deep basins, vast mountain chains and long ocean trenches. This landscape helps steer ocean currents that in turn affect climate, and influences hazards facing coastal communities like approaching tsunamis... GEBCO's aim is to provide the most authoritative publicly-available bathymetry of the world's oceans. It operates under the joint auspices of the International Hydrographic Organization(IHO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) (of UNESCO)... Since 1903 GEBCO aims to provide the most publicly available bathymetry data sets for the world's oceans.
