Gemtec expanded to include mining, cutting and polishing, catering mainly to tourists and international visitors. Gemtec is recognised today as one of Australia's largest opal and precious gem companies... Gemtec Pty Ltd, which began as a one-man wholesale gem merchant business, was established in 1971 by Maxwell Lane, a qualified gemmologist.
