There is one word that continually arises when you ask his peers to describe Albert: professional. And since 1982, he has helped shape how the profession of family law is practiced in Oregon like no other attorney. Albert knows he has a direct impact on the lives of clients during a life-altering event when not having proper counsel can put their well-being in jeopardy. Tough times like these call for the experience and insight Albert has honed over the past four decades, and it's why he's often called first when family law issues arise.
Known for his diligence and dedication at work, Albert is equally adept at making time for himself and his family. Drawn to the culture, history and cuisine of Italy, he travels often and afar. Alex knows hard work. A former criminal prosecutor, he is equally capable in and out of a courtroom. Alex has perspective and is comfortable with cases involving fraud, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Those who know Alex would describe him as committed, meticulous, and compassionate.
Alex received a Juris Doctorate from Willamette University College of Law, where he was president of the Moot Court Board. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he was a student athlete and All-American recipient in springboard diving.
As a Senior Paralegal in the estate planning practice group, I work closely with the attorneys to ensure that our clients' plans for their futures, and their families' futures, will be carried out. Careful planning and document production ensure asset and legacy protection for our clients. I also assist with business formation and compliance.
I like to spend my free time with my partner and my dog, going on adventures or binging Netflix.
As the newest member of the Accounting Team, it is my job to assist the Senior Finance Manager with any assignments she gives me. Although I've just been here for a short while, I am very impressed with the community here at Gevurtz Menashe. I look forward to getting to know the staff and helping things run smoothly in the Accounting Department. I love spending time with my family (and especially my grandchildren) and watching crime shows with my husband.
After some time away from the legal field, I'm excited to rejoin the Gevurtz Menashe team and assist our clients with their family law needs. As the Director of Human Resources, I have the opportunity to utilize my knowledge, experiences, and education to develop relationships with talented professionals. Having worked in different support roles for different attorneys in the firm prior to my current role, I understand the role responsibilities of our staff, providing me with the ability to mentor them so that they can continue to increase their skills and provide high-level professional service to our teams and clients.
As Office Services Manager I oversee my team in general administrative functions. Assisting staff in a wide variety of tasks, creating and maintaining a pleasant environment for clients, and ensuring day-to-day office operations are running smoothly. My almost 20 years working in family law have allowed me to develop high levels of organizational effectiveness, communication, and coordination among all departments.
When away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my family, films and television, horology, tinkering, and meditation.

After thirty years of working in complex litigation, working mostly for large corporations and public bodies, I made the switch to family law in 2003. I found that working with people instead of paper was far more rewarding. I enjoy working with clients to help them navigate a difficult and even traumatic time in their lives as they go through divorce and custody matters. Jeffrey is a veteran family law attorney with over 35 years of experience in Oregon family law. With nearly 40 years of experience, Michael Yates is recognized as one of Oregon's preeminent family law attorneys. Robert Demary began his career at Gevurtz Menashe before spending many years on his own. He has recently rejoined the firm, adding his considerable experience to the greater resources of a larger firm. He combines compassion with a sense of humor and aggressive advocacy to help clients through difficult times. He received a Bachelor in Political Science from the University of California and a Juris Doctor from the Northwestern School of Law.
When not helping his clients navigate successfully through challenging times, Robert likes to have fun with his family. He enjoys scuba diving and travel. Winter vacations may find him diving in the Sea of Cortes in Cabo San Lucas. An accomplished guitarist, he likes to relax with music, especially rock and roll.
No two family law matters are the same. Some are relatively simple, others quite complicated. Some focus on children, others on finances. Often the focus is on both. Robin's experience in juvenile court and criminal law enable her to bring creativity and insight into family law cases that fall outside the standard family law box. A calm but dogged advocate, Robin is comfortable resolving cases both in and out of the courtroom. When not helping clients, Robin enjoys spending time with her family, including her two grown children. Scott practiced family law in Vancouver, Washington for over 40 years. He is a past member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and was its first co-recipient of the Outstanding Lawyer of the Year award. He was an adjunct professor of community property law at Willamette Law School and Law of Lewis and Clark College-and has written materials for and spoken at numerous continuing legal education programs. He is a past chair of the Washington State Bar Association Family Law Executive Committee and a recipient of that Section's Outstanding Lawyer of the Year award and Outstanding Professional of the Year award. He is a past President of the Clark County Bar Association, a former Chairperson of the Family Law Section, and a recipient of the Ken Weber Community Service award and Lifetime Achievement award. He has also been designated as a Super Lawyer by Washington Law and Politics for many years. While remaining retired from practicing family law, Scott continues his independent mediation practice through Scott Horenstein Law, LLC.
Beyond his legal community contributions, Scott has also had a lifetime of involvement in Vancouver civic affairs. He has been involved in the Vancouver Public Schools levy efforts since his high school days, having chaired its levy committee. He also co-founded and is a board member of the Hudson's Bay High School Foundation. In 2004 Scott was named Clark County Washington's First Citizen. For fun, Scott enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, exercising, gardening, woodworking and working on stained glass.
For Shannon, helping clients into the next chapter of their future gives her a great sense of satisfaction. There's never a dull moment in family law, and with the ever-changing industry developments and legal issues to navigate, she continues to stay challenged and advocates for her clients. As a busy mom of two, Shannon's life is full-time family! As a former probation clerk in Seattle, legal administrative assistant/receptionist in family law, and office services/receptionist, it is great to be at Gevurtz Menashe in my role as an office assistant. My attention to detail, passion for learning new skills, along with ensuring staff receives the assistance they need with any task, large or small, is an ethos I take seriously.In the past, I was active in theater and music (a beloved activity to which I hope to return), I am an avid reader, TV watcher of genre shows (Star Trek in particular, and the Law & Order franchises), and love to hang out with my cat Mowgli.
Bill has practiced law since 1975, and since 1997 has devoted himself almost exclusively to family law with Gevurtz Menashe, in Portland, Oregon. He was named in Best Lawyers in America as the "2009 Lawyer of the Year - Family Law, Portland, Oregon," and he is one of 10 family law lawyers from Oregon included from 2005 to the present by Best Lawyers. He has also been honored in Super Lawyers and Portland Monthly and in many other publications for many years. Bill has received Martindale Hubbell's highest "AV" rating for over 35 years. In addition to many years of active practice, which includes prevailing in several landmark appellate cases in Oregon, Bill has devoted an enormous amount of time and energy to family court reform. He served as the Vice-chair of Oregon's Statewide Family Law Advisory Committee (SFLAC) from 1998 through 2020, having been appointed and reappointed by four Chief Justices; served as Chair of the Family Justice Initiative of the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (IAALS); served for many years as President of the Oregon Family Institute; served two terms as president of the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners; served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC); and was appointed by Governor Barbara Roberts and reappointed by Governor Kitzhaber as Chair of the Oregon Task Force on Family Law from 1993 to 1997. Bill has also served as pro tem Circuit Court Judge, a mediator for the Oregon Court of Appeals and has served as a private mediator. Among his many commendations, Bill was awarded the 2003 Pro Bono Challenge Award for donating the Highest Number of Pro Bono Public Service Hours by the Oregon State Bar and in 2021 was awarded the SFLAC's Wallace P. Carson Outstanding Achievement Award by Oregon Chief Justice Martha Walters. In addition, Bill has made over 150 presentations at family law conferences and at other venues in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe and South Africa, authored many articles on family law-related matters and consulted with several jurisdictions regarding family law reform.
