Annie Bryan

Annie was admitted as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of Queensland in December 2016. Prior to her admission, she worked as an Associate to the Honourable Justice Kent KC of the Full Court of the Family Court of Australia. Following her admission, Annie gained experience at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), where she worked as a Legal Officer for a number of years, often appearing for the Prosecution in both the Magistrates and District Court. In 2021, Annie left the ODPP and began working in criminal defence. She joined Gilshenan & Luton as an Associate in 2024 after returning to Brisbane following a brief stint working in London. Annie has extensive experience in representing clients charged with a wide variety of offences, including: minor traffic offences; fraud; property offences; offences of violence; sexual offences; drug trafficking; and murder Annie is a keen advocate; often appearing in the Magistrates, District & Supreme Courts for pleas, sentences, directions hearings and committal hearings, and applications including Supreme Court bail applications. She is committed to maintaining strong client relationships and aims to always achieve the best outcome for her clients. Outside of work, Annie enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as travelling.

Callan Lloyd

Callan joined Gilshenan & Luton in 2011 and was appointed as a director of the firm in 2020. He appears in a wide variety of complex criminal and professional discipline proceedings. He has appeared as solicitor advocate, and instructing solicitor, in superior court hearings and sentences, coronial inquests, disciplinary hearings, and commissions of inquiry. Callan has a particular interest in assisting other lawyers with professional discipline proceedings involving the Queensland Law Society and/or Legal Services Commission, as well as other professionals in misconduct investigations and hearings. A significant aspect of Callan's practice includes advising and representing government bodies in regulatory prosecutions, and in the enforcement of their statutory powers. In 2018, Callan attained his specialist accreditation in criminal law, acknowledging his high level of practical skill and knowledge within the criminal law practice area. Callan is Chair of the Queensland Law Society's committee for Specialist Accreditation in Criminal Law and is also a member of the Proctor Committee (the Law Society's monthly magazine for the profession). He has also published numerous articles in various journals, and since 2012 has been the annual editor of the Queensland College of Law's text on Conducting Pleas of Guilty in the Magistrates Court. Callan is married to Nicole and they have two children. He enjoys trail running and trips to the beach. Callan has represented Australia in triathlons and competed at the Ironman and Ultraman distances.

Caprice Gobie-Smith

Caprice joined Gilshenan & Luton in 2019. Initially starting as a paralegal, Caprice gained extensive experience in the criminal jurisdiction assisting our solicitors on a variety of criminal trials and coronial inquests before being admitted as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2022. Caprice appears frequently in all Courts across Queensland in both simple and complex matters. In the criminal defence area, Caprice is available to assist in all aspects of criminal law, with particular experience in: drug related offences, including large scale trafficking matters; assault offences (including offences of violence, sexual assault and rape); traffic matters (including serious offences such as dangerous operation of a motor vehicle); domestic and family violence matters (for both the aggrieved and respondents); and coronial investigations. In addition, Caprice also regularly assists complainants and victims who require assistance in navigating our criminal justice system. Caprice maintains a strong relationship with her clients and is dedicated to achieving the best outcomes for her clients. Outside of work, Caprice enjoys spending time with her mini dachshund ‘Alfie' and travelling.

Claire McGee

Claire joined Gilshenan and Luton in 2015. She has significant experience representing health professionals such as doctors, nurses and other practitioners in matters brought by the Health Ombudsman or the National Board and assisting practitioners in coronial inquests. Claire is also part of our employment law team, offering advice in all areas of employment law. In addition to occupation discipline and employment law, Claire represents clients in all aspects of criminal law. In 2022, Claire gained Specialist Accreditation in Criminal Law through the Queensland Law Society. Claire acts in a diverse range of criminal matters, with particular experience in sexual offences and large-scale white-collar crime/fraud matters. Claire is a member of the Medico-Legal Society, the Industrial Relations Society of Queensland, and the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland. She is also the firm's pro-bono coordinator. In her free time, Claire enjoys visiting home (England) and travelling the world.

Craig Pratt

Craig has been practising in criminal and administrative law for many years. Prior to joining Gilshenan & Luton he practised in family law, dispute resolution (including regulatory prosecutions), and as the legal advisor to the Australian Medical Association (Qld). Craig is a member of the Queensland Law Society's Criminal Law Committee and the Criminal law Specialist Accreditation Committee.

Emma Hart

Emma joined Gilshenan & Luton in 2023 and has a keen interest in all aspects of criminal and employment law. Prior to joining Gilshenan & Luton, Emma was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2022 whilst working as a Judge's Associate at the Federal Court of Australia, Supreme and National Courts of Papua New Guinea, Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Emma was admitted to the High Court of Australia in 2023. Previously, Emma worked as a litigation and dispute resolution solicitor at a commercial firm and has litigation experience in a range of jurisdictions across Australia and overseas, at both original and appellate level. Emma has experience in a broad range of practice areas, including employment and industrial law, criminal law, administrative law, and general commercial law. Emma is also a volunteer solicitor with Caxton Community Legal Centre, providing pro-bono advice and assistance to those in the community. Outside of work, Emma enjoys reading, running and spending time with her two dogs.

Eric Halden

Eric joined Gilshenan and Luton in 2023 as a Senior Associate. Following his admission in 2011, he worked as a Judge's Associate, followed by several years in criminal defence. Eric has extensive courtroom experience, having successfully represented clients across an array of matters in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts, in matters including: murder; sexual assault & rape; assaults, grievous bodily harm & wounding; supplying, producing & trafficking in dangerous drugs; and fraud & white-collar crime.

Glen Cranny - Managing Director

Glen has specialised in criminal law since 1995 and has been a principal of Gilshenan & Luton since 2000. He is today recognised as one of the most prominent criminal lawyers in Queensland. Doyle's Guide to the Legal Profession lists him as a preeminent Queensland and Australian criminal lawyer. Glen advises and represents clients in all aspects of criminal law. He also assists government officials and professionals in relation to disciplinary and regulatory investigations. Glen's areas of expertise include: white collar crime; sexual and violent offences; CCC investigations; and the defence of professional misconduct allegations. He is often retained to conduct workplace investigations in both the public and private sectors, and is also very experienced in representing clients in commissions of inquiry, WHS prosecutions and coronial inquests. ​Glen is a leading author in the areas of criminal law and disciplinary investigations in Queensland. He was a member of the Queensland Law Society's inaugural criminal law specialist accreditation committee and was the Chair of the Law Society's criminal law section from 2008 to 2014.

Jaimee-Lee Jessop

Jaimee-Lee was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in August 2017. Prior to working as a solicitor, she obtained a wealth of experience working as a criminal law clerk and acting as the associate to the presiding Domestic Violence Magistrate in Southport. Jaimee-Lee has an extensive range of experience in criminal law, from Magistrate Court sentences and bail applications to District and Supreme Court trials and Court of Appeal matters. She practises in a diverse range of areas including: drug-related offences; crime and corruption proceedings; sexual offences; violent assault matters, including domestic violence-related matters; domestic violence applications; white collar crime; and juvenile/youth justice matters. She also represents clients in child protection matters and dangerous prisoner applications. Outside the courtroom, Jaimee-Lee is a volunteer with the Caxton Community Legal Centre, providing pro-bono advice and assistance to those in need within the community. She is also a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ). She is a committee member of the WLAQ's Criminal Lawyers Sub-Committee, which provides her with the opportunity to advocate and raise awareness about issues impacting female criminal lawyers. On multiple occasions, Jaimee-Lee has been named a ‘Rising Star' in Doyle's Guide for the category of criminal law in Queensland. Additionally, she was recognised as the winner of the ‘30 Under 30 Lawyers Weekly Awards' for criminal law within Australia.

Jessica Rosengren

Jess joined Gilshenan & Luton in 2023. Prior to joining the firm, Jess worked on the Royal Commission into the Robodebt Scheme as the Associate to former Chief Justice Holmes AC SC. She also undertook a graduate program at an international commercial law firm, including rotations in the corporate and pro bono teams. Jess was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in December 2021 whilst working as a Judge's Associate in the District Court of Queensland. There she gained experience in both the criminal and civil jurisdictions, from criminal trials and pre-trial applications to sentencing, including a high profile environmental and regulatory prosecution. Jess is currently studying a Master of Laws, specialising in public law, at the Australian National University. Jess is a clear thinker with excellent communication skills, and clients value her commonsense approach and outcomes focus.

Patrick Quinn

Patrick joined Gilshenan & Luton in 2018. He has practised predominantly in criminal and misconduct law since his admission to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2011. He has also practised in litigation and family law. Prior to his legal career, Patrick worked as a hotel manager and maintains a strong interest in liquor and gaming law. Patrick has been a member of the Queensland Law Society's Criminal Law Committee since 2017.

Rachel Tierney

Rachel joined Gilshenan & Luton in 2017 after working at a regional law firm for a number of years as the firm's criminal law solicitor. Prior to that she worked as a Judge's Associate and interned at the Crime and Corruption Commission, Legal Aid Queensland and Department of Communities (Child Safety Services). Rachel has extensive complex trial experience and defends clients in a diverse range of matters with particular expertise in: violent assault matters, including domestic violence-related matters; traffic offences, from drink driving to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle offences and all matters in between; sexual offences, including historical, institutional sexual abuse matters; drug-related offences, including serious drug offences in the higher courts; and misconduct related charges brought against members of the public service. Aside from her criminal law work, Rachel represents clients in child protection matters, disciplinary matters (including QCAT hearings) and coronial inquests. She also has carriage of prosecutions for regulatory agencies. She also regularly assists victims and witnesses to navigate the criminal justice system. Rachel has considerable experience in domestic violence matters, where she is well placed to assist clients in both bringing domestic violence applications for their protection and defending against them. Appreciating these different perspectives enables Rachel to achieve excellent outcomes for her clients. Being a criminal lawyer is particularly valuable in these matters, as Rachel seamlessly assists clients with their linked criminal charges (or complaints), such as contravention of domestic violence order offences. Rachel prides herself on her ability to communicate with her clients in a measured, compassionate manner so her clients feel as calm and comfortable as possible. Rachel is a member of the Queensland Law Society's (QLS) Domestic Violence Committee. She is also an active member of the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland. Rachel has been a presenter in legal seminars and panels in respect of criminal law, including the Ethical Conundrums Panel at the 2019 International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law. Rachel is recently married to Ned. In her downtime she enjoys spending time with her Golden Retriever Tilly, trying out new restaurants and going to F45.

Samantha O'Connor

Samantha was admitted as a legal practitioner in June 2018. Before becoming a legal practitioner, she worked as a law clerk whilst studying which initially sparked her interest in criminal law. Samantha has appeared in Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts throughout Queensland, and has experience advising clients in a range of matters including: assaults; drug offences; traffic offences; and property and weapons offences. Outside of work Samantha enjoys playing hockey, travelling and spending time with family.
