Andrew M. Heiner

Job Titles:
  • Board Certified Gastroenterologist
Dr Heiner, Board certified gastroenterologist, has practiced GI medicine for more than 30 years. Dr. Heiner's goal in schooling and practice has remained to provide meaningful help to patients in need. His success in helping individuals find relief and improved quality of life is possible through his belief that every patient who puts their care in his hands should be treated as he would treat a loved one. In his experience, the information he receives from his patients is almost always enough to make an accurate diagnosis. This is where he believes medical excellence and successful care begin.

Dr. James M. Stewart

"I enjoy gastroenterology because of the chance it give me to make a difference in my patient's lives. I enjoy all aspects of gastroenterology from curing hepatitis C, to managing Crohns disease and Ulcerative colitis and to diagnosing and preventing colon cancer. Gastroenterology encompasses a wide spectrum of diseases and symptoms which encourages me to stay on the forefront of knowledge as new discoveries are made every month. From a personal standpoint, my grandfather died of colorectal cancer that was diagnosed too late. If found at early stages it is curable but he did not undergo a colonoscopy until it was too late when he had symptoms. His life would have been dramatically different had the cancer been found at an earlier stage. I grew up in Utah having attended high school, university, and medical school all here in Salt Lake City. It is a wonderful place to live, flourish, and grow. My job is to help my patients maximize their gastrointestinal health so that they can flourish in our beautiful state. Through careful one-on-one discussion and appropriate use of lab testing, radiology, and endoscopy, I will try my best to find the cause of whatever is concerning my patients. Our office is dedicated to promptly answering our patients' concerns and questions."

J. David Schmidt

Dr. Schmidt commits his work to providing the highest quality of care to every patient. Of course, the accomplishment of this goal relies heavily on skill knowledge, dedication, and ability. However, Dr. Schmidt is also a firm believer that the best care is delivered with a genuine compassion for the patient's individual needs, overall health, and quality of life. For him, this all begins with listening. This is because it is important for him to fully understand the current situation and how it is affecting the patient. Your concerns and sensibilities are intertwined with your gastrointestinal problems, and it's Dr. Schmidt's goal to get to the bottom of what's going on to find a complete solution. Additionally, his true presence and involvement in your care make him the partner you need to get back to what's important: living and enjoying a comfortable life.

Marguerite (May) Marschner

Delivering the best possible care at Granite Peaks Gastroenterology, while working with her team of GI doctors and medical staff, is May Marschner's goal as a PA-C at Granite Peaks GI. May believes that taking a step back to look at the big picture is important whenever she sees a patient - as there is often an overlap between gastrointestinal health and other areas of one's health. As a fully trained advanced practitioner in an ever-evolving field, May is sure to keep up on the latest research - making sure her patients know every available option. She sees her own patients in clinic daily and evaluates, treats, and sets up testing /procedures if necessary, while still working closely with Dr. Heiner. She creates individualized treatment plans for each patient and strives to ensure that each patient feels as comfortable as possible while dealing with an "uncomfortable situation." She is an expert in the field of hemorrhoids.

R. Kyle Barnett

Having practiced for more than 20 years, Board-Certified Gastroenterologist R. Kyle Barnett, MD has helped countless patients find relief and comfort through effective treatment and care. For Dr. Barnett, the most rewarding part of his work is being able to have a positive impact on the way people feel. It is his goal to consistently provide the highest level of care to every patient he treats. Taking the time to fully understand the patient and their needs is an important part of his care routine, as this allows him to build a genuine patient/physician relationship with trust and compassion. From this solid base, the best care outcomes can be achieved, as success depends on both the physician's and the patient's personal investments in the treatment process.

Rachel Hansen

Rachel's focus is to help her patients achieve their own health goals by providing them with skilled, thorough, and compassionate care. She strives to listen to her patients and think outside the box when creating treatment plans. She believes that it is important to consider both conventional and alternative treatments, taking into consideration her patients' preferences.

Scott Moffitt

Whether treating common conditions, such as heartburn, or more complicated processes, like Crohn's disease, Scott's patient care philosophy is the same: consider the whole patient, not just the symptoms, then find the best treatment plan for that individual. Approaching treatment from multiple angles, Scott considers medications, imaging, labs, procedures, diet, exercise, and mindfulness when developing a plan. He believes this comprehensive approach ensures the best outcomes in overall health and wellbeing. Scott's natural curiosity leads him to constantly investigate new research and practices in the field of gastroenterology that may benefit his patients.
