Amanda Hernandez

Dr. Hernandez is a veterinarian at Glenwood Village Pet Hospital, joining us in June 2014. She grew up in Indiana and attended Purdue University. After completing her undergraduate studies, Dr. Hernandez returned to her alma mata to pursue her veterinary studies, earning a DVM degree in 2014. During vet school, Dr. Hernandez worked with Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon, FL and a zoo in Lafayette, IN which sparked her love of exotic species, birds, reptiles and all sorts of other non-traditional pets. Her other interests include cardiology and neurology. In her spare time, Dr. Hernandez enjoys reading, traveling, and running. When not busy with one of those hobbies, she is relaxing with her two sons, Emery and Max. She has two cats, Keekee and Bean, a Siberian Husky, Kayavak, and two crested geckos, Ketchup and Mustard.

A veterinarian at GVPH, Dr. Herda graduated from veterinary school in 2009, earning a DVM degree from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. In May 2007, she went on a mission trip to Honduras to help vaccinate livestock and educate farmers. As a veterinarian, Dr. Herda has served as a mentor to new veterinary graduates. Dr. Herda is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association (ISVMA). Dr. Herda has been married since May 2009 to "the love of my life, James." She enjoys hiking, crocheting, watching movies, and reading. Some of her favorite books include the Harry Potter series, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Giver series, and Where the Red Fern Grows among many others. Her furry family includes Autumn & Geno (Great Danes); Tolkien (Corgi); Chunk, Elisa, Kirby, Calvin & Hobbes (all cats); Salt & Pepper (Chinchillas); and Irwin (Leopard Gecko).

Dr. Parr is Chief of Staff at Glenwood Village Pet Hospital. She graduated from veterinary school at Louisiana State University in 2004. During veterinary school, Dr. Parr served as co-chair of Raptor and Wildlife Rehabilitation and president of Wildlife, Avian, Zoo and Exotic Medicine Club. She is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV), Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). Dr. Parr believes; "Being a veterinarian means caring for a member of the family. It doesn't matter if a patient has scales, feathers, or fur; the bond between pet and owner is still as strong." She has an African Grey Parrot named Monty and a cat named Pixie. She enjoys going on bike rides with her son Ian, gardening and spending time with her family.
