A decisive and focused business leader, Anshum brings entrepreneurial spirit to pursue top-line and bottom-line growth for new businesses. As an empowering and reliable leader, he is known for creating high performance teams globally, that consistently deliver superior results. His passion is to coach, and his motivation is to win. He's been with Shearwater Health since 2014 and has strengthened the operations through leadership development, sustainable service delivery, and enhanced cost management, enabling its recognition as "Major Contender" for Healthcare Clinical and Care Management services by Everest Group in 2019. Prior to Shearwater Health, Anshum was an executive at EXL (a NASDAQ listed BPO), primarily focused on running operations in India, Czech Republic, and the Philippines. He has 20 years of experience as an Operations Executive, including general management of mid and large size organizations, P&L management, product development, business operations, and strategy.
As Chief Financial Officer, Cary is focused on building and leading a finance function that supports the continued growth and scale of Shearwater's global operations. Prior to joining Shearwater, Cary served as CFO of Alteon Health, a medical group focused on the emergency and hospitalist specialties, backed by New Mountain Capital.
Previously, he was the CFO of multiple venture backed and growth stage companies in the healthcare space. He began his career at Goldman Sachs and Court Square Capital where he focused on healthcare M&A and investing. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, from The Citadel and a master's in accountancy from Belmont University.

Kari leads the growth and development strategy for the Pharma/Life Sciences vertical at Shearwater Health. She is focused on bringing streamlined solutions to clinical research and development to improve health outcomes for patients. Kari brings 17+ years of pharmaceutical and life sciences experience from a variety of areas such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, Operations Management, Information Technology, Project Management, Clinical Operations, Change Management, Study Start-Up, M&A Integration and Corporate Strategy.
Prior to joining Shearwater Health, she served as the Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy for Syneos Health, where she was responsible for strategic planning and development, driving business initiatives in support of corporate plans as well as leading Process Improvement, Change Management and strategic management teams for the global business. Prior to joining Syneos Health, Kari spent time at GlaxoWellcome (now GSK) and a validation consulting firm. Kari earned a B.S. in Biological Engineering degree and a Master of Business Administration from North Carolina State University. She also served on several non-profit boards, including serving as Chair of the Advisory Board for the College of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at NCSU and as a member of the Board of Directors for North Carolina Association for Biomedical Research (NCABR).
As Chief Growth Officer, Laki Balaji specializes in helping Payors, Providers, and Managed Care Organizations transform their core operations through the application of analytics. Laki is a seasoned leader with over twenty-five years of experience in the Property & Casualty, Life and Health Insurance industries.
Laki joined Shearwater from WNS where he was the Global Practice Leader, Healthcare Group. With consulting experience spanning 25+ years, he brings deep experience in strategy, transformation and performance improvement working with Insurance companies of all sizes in US, Europe and APAC. He has been fortunate to be involved in large number of transformations in Insurance carriers for their Underwriting, Policy, Claim and Clinical operations leading to both optimized processes and better customer experience. His experience spans the spectrum of strategy, business case development, transformation roadmaps, cost efficiency and large program management.
Melissa leads clinical teams at Shearwater Health to ensure clinical preparedness, quality, and expertise to meet or exceed client expectations and standards. She builds and maintains relationships with nurse leaders globally to empower, support, and strengthen nursing in source countries with the ultimate goal of improving health outcomes.
Melissa is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and brings 19 years of clinical experience from a variety of areas such as prehospital care, emergency medicine, pediatric medicine, mental/behavioral health, family practice, urgent care, and rural medicine.
Prior to Shearwater Health, she served as the Director of Clinical Services for Fast Pace Urgent Care, a hybrid primary care-urgent care delivery model, where she maintained quality and scalability as the company grew from 13 clinics located in one state to 68+ clinics across three states. Melissa earned her M.S. degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University, B.S degree in Nursing from Belmont University, and her B.S. degree in Psychology from James Madison University.
Nathan makes B2B marketing human. He is strategic, customer centric, and passionate about creating and communicating an offering that improves customers' jobs, and their lives too.
With two work periods at Shearwater Health (2000-2004 and 2016-current), Nathan works at Shearwater to solve the problem most healthcare organizations have of finding enough clinical talent to scale effectively.
Nathan is responsible for all marketing functions including branding, services marketing, and marketing content development. Previously, he led Shearwater's nurse staffing business that recruits international nurses to work in the United States. In his professional roles outside of Shearwater, he worked in product development for a population health company and as a strategy consultant in Nashville.
Nathan has led teams and growth initiatives in a wide variety of organizations at companies ranging from publicly traded to private equity owned to early startups. He's also worked in five countries on three continents. He earned his MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and resides in Nashville, TN.
Ted Merhoff - Chief Strategy Officer
Ted's healthcare experience began in 1988 as an orderly in a Level I pediatric trauma center that ignited his continued passion for healthcare. Over twenty years ago, Ted joined what is today Shearwater Health, attracted by the opportunity to develop an acute care hospital in Poland. While working in Poland, he supported the team's global healthcare clients by recruiting physicians to work overseas.
Through many global trips to meet hospital and policy leaders and hearing the stories of healthcare workers all over the world, Ted developed a profound appreciation for how nurses and other healthcare professionals cross national borders to make a difference in their livelihood and positively impact healthcare outcomes. From that perspective, Ted created the strategy and vision which is today reflected in the modern form of Shearwater Health.
Ted has created entirely new business models to solve key problems of many healthcare organizations such as finding enough qualified, clinical talent to deliver bedside care, driving optimal labor efficiency and peak of clinical practice, scaling new care offerings and business processes, and controlling expense.

Todd is responsible for the strategy and overall delivery of services for the Payer Vertical. With over 20 years' experience, Todd is a detail-oriented problem solver skilled in various delivery models including premise-based, telecommuter and international outsourcing. His perpetual focus on driving value for customers is achieved by maintaining open dialogue designed to align client-specific strategic initiatives with optimal operational outcomes.
Prior to joining Shearwater Health, Todd served as Sr. Vice President, Operations at HealthHelp, a Specialty Benefits Management (SBM) partner focused on Utilization Management, where he was instrumental in developing strategies to drive best-in-class service to members, providers and payers. Additional areas of responsibility included Network Relations, Project Management Office (PMO) and Payer Implementations. Todd also spent several years with Thermo Fisher Scientific in various leadership roles focused on cost-conscious best practices, increased productivity, and workforce management.
Tom leads Shearwater Health by creating outcomes that position Shearwater as the preferred choice for clinical processes. He drives the growth strategy for new and existing client partners. Under his operational leadership, Shearwater has grown its Philippine delivery centers, and he continues to lead efforts in developing global relationships. Tom has been at Shearwater since 2012 and has served in the roles of President, COO, and CFO. Prior to Shearwater, Tom has 20+ years of experience in the business services sector with a focus on outsourcing and consulting business. He served as Head of Corporate Development/Mergers & Acquisitions at Bearing Point. His additional experience includes portfolio manager roles at JP Morgan Investment Management, Pequot Capital, and Minot Capital. Tom earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Providence College.
