Alma Victoria

Alma Victoria serves as a Finance Manager at Hinman. She has advised senior management regarding work efficiency, profitability and yearly budget. As our financial planning expert, she is based in our San Francisco office and facilitates monthly and quarterly budget report meetings to ensure revenue budgets versus expenses are met. Alma leads our administrative team and does volunteer work.

Ankit Agrawal

Ankit Agrawal is a Project Engineer at Hinman Consulting Engineers, specializing in analysis and design of structures exposed to extreme loads, particularly fire, blast and progressive collapse. Before joining Hinman, he worked at the Center for Structural Fire Engineering and Diagnostics at Michigan State University to develop approaches for assessing fire damaged concrete structures. His research at MSU involved large scale tests under fire conditions, experimental characterization of construction materials at elevated temperature, non-destructive testing of fire damaged structures, and finite element modeling. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and presented at conferences in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

Bradley Smith

Bradley Smith is a project engineer at Hinman's Washington DC office. He has recently completed his Masters of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland, as well as a graduate certificate in project management. Prior to working with Hinman, Bradley was a full-time engineering student with contracting internship experience with the Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. working primarily in the government sector for active construction and bid submittals.

Brian Katz

Brian Katz's knack for problem solving led him to his career in structural engineering. He has developed a passion for the entire design process from a building concept through construction. With eight years of structural engineering experience Brian has covered a wide range of new and retrofit design projects, vulnerability assessments, and risk management studies. He has extensive experience in the analysis of structures and facades for extreme loading conditions and the development and implementation of cost-effective and constructable design solutions for complex structures. His background is in the field of seismic engineering, in which he has collaborated on a variety of low to high-rise structures, utilizing a broad range of construction materials, in both domestic and international locations. He has worked in a range of market sectors filling roles on the design team, as a client representative, and providing construction support. Brian's work at Hinman is strongly focused on the assessment of risk and resilience in support of client-led high-level decisions regarding protection design goals. Brian received his BS in Civil & Environmental Engineering, and MS in Structural Engineering & Material Mechanics from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a registered Structural Engineer in California.

Corrine Tan

Corrine Tan is a handy woman to have around. With 16 years of structural and seismic engineering experience, she really understands how to design, detail and build buildings. Corrine joined Hinman in 2009 and has successfully applied her knowledge to the field of blast engineering. As a Senior Managing Engineer with Hinman, she has led a number of projects including several for the Department of Defense, a Federal Courthouse refurbishment for the GSA and an AoC Courthouse in California. Prior to working at Hinman, Corrine worked for an international design firm, Arup, where her portfolio included institutional projects-particularly schools, universities and hospitals. Corrine holds a BS in Civil and Environment from UC Davis and an MS from UC Berkeley. She is a registered Structural Engineer in California.

Darlene Lopez

Darlene Lopez recently graduated from the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez with an M.E. in Civil Engineering. Her research has involved testing damping configurations on structures subjected to representative earthquake loadings (like the seismic activity that could occur in Puerto Rico) with the purpose of finding the best configuration for structural damage reduction. Prior to working at Hinman, Darlene was involved with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, working to create an artificial neural network that would predict pile embedment depth for flood prone bridges with missing structural plans. While with Hinman, she will focus on the analysis and design of structures in response to extreme loads and performing dynamic non-linear analysis using SDOF/MDOF or FEM. Outside of work, Darlene enjoys going to the gym, salsa dancing, finding coffee shops to read in, and volunteering in the construction of homes for Habitat for Humanity.

Debra Schroeder

Debra Schroeder is a Managing Engineer with Hinman and has more than 12 years of structural engineering experience. Based in our Alexandria office, she has extensive experience with large government facilities, as well as retrofit and renovation projects. Her work has included seismic retrofits, both military and private hospitals, laboratories, and historic renovations. Debra received her both MS and BS in Architectural Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. She is a registered Structural Engineer in Virginia.

Eve Hinman - Founder, President

Eve Hinman pioneered the field of blast engineering. In 1983, she became one of the first structural engineers in the United States to take on this highly specialized design work, when the bombings of the U.S. embassy and Marine Barracks in Beirut brought to the attention of the Federal government the need for anti-terrorism solutions. Since then she has designed nuclear missile silos, NATO military facilities, industrial buildings subject to accidental explosions, and civilian buildings vulnerable to terrorist attack. In addition, she was listed as expert witness for the U.S. Department of Justice in the criminal prosecution of Timothy McVeigh. As a founding member, Eve Hinman helped Weidlinger Associates establish their anti-terrorist design specialty consulting practice. She subsequently went on to found Hinman in 1997. Eve received her doctorate in Engineering Mechanics, and her MS and BS in Civil Engineering from Columbia University (with structural emphasis). She is a registered Professional Engineer in California and New York.

Francois Fayad

Francois Fayad leads Hinman's New York office. He brings more than 30 years of experience with conventional structural and protective anti-terrorism design. He has extensive experience in the analysis of structures and facades for extreme loading conditions and the development and implementation of cost effective and constructible design solutions for complex structures. Francois worked in multiple market sectors including government, infrastructure and private on a wide range of projects from mission critical facilities to historic structures, strongly focused on providing clients the information they need to make high level decisions.

Fred Jorgensen

Fred Jorgensen is a risk and hazard assessment engineer and based in San Francisco, California. He received his Master's in Civil Engineering from Purdue University of Indiana. His experience includes government, infrastructure and commercial projects, whose project role is to define and analyze hazards ranging from intentional manmade disasters to natural disasters which effects both property and people, and provide risk mitigation measures with protective design suggestions based on ISC, GSA, DoD, OBO and VA security standards. In addition, Fred is involved with the Hinman Consulting Engineers research sector where they strive to push the boundaries of understanding for explosive, fire, and natural hazards that can be implemented into practical engineering solutions.

Jaeyoon Kim

Jaeyoon Kim is a Project Engineer at Hinman in San Francisco, California. Jaeyoon's experience at Hinman involves government and civil infrastructure projects including international airports, military bases, and US embassies abroad. Kyle is a registered Structural Engineer in California with expertise in nonlinear dynamic analysis and probabilistic risk modeling. Kyle has extensive experience in the protective design of existing facilities, many of which requiring retrofit solutions that consider the ongoing functionality of the facility and preservation of existing historic and architectural characteristics. Kyle has published several technical papers relating to disproportionate collapse analysis and system reliability and continues to actively participate in industry conferences through delivering technical presentations. His active areas of research include machine learning applications, system sensitivity/uncertainty quantification, and reliability-based assessment methods.

Mona Zahedi

Job Titles:

Mona Zahedi has recently joined Hinman as a Project Engineer, after graduating with a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. Her research included non-destructive testing for early-age damage detection in concrete (using non-linear resonant ultrasound spectroscopy and dynamic acousto-elastic testing techniques), supplementary cementitious materials, and concrete durability. Prior to her M.Sc., she worked as a Structural Engineer on the design of reinforced concrete residential, commercial and administrative complexes. Her current position at Hinman involves the analysis of structural response to extreme events with a focus on the development of cost-effective mitigation strategies as part of the design and construction phase. During her weekends she enjoys oil painting, playing tennis and catching up with the latest documentaries.

Neha Payyur

Neha Payyur joined Hinman in 2018 as an engineer-in-training. She received her Master's in Civil Engineering from Purdue University of Indiana and supports our team of engineers with analysis of hazards, both manmade and natural disasters, and provide risk mitigation measures with protective design suggestions based on ISC, DoD, OBO and UFC security standards. Previously to working at Hinman, Neha developed a robust structural design tool producing a high-quality user end experience in a multidisciplinary environment, which was awarded under "Best Innovation category" at Rail Awards 2015, Atkins, UK.

Reza Eslami

Reza is trained in structural engineering and computational mechanics with multi-disciplinary interests including seismic, fire, tsunami and blast design of structures. Using experimental and numerical approaches, his overall background focuses on the design of novel structures that can withstand extreme conditions. With the experience in post-disaster investigation of structural failures in 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan, his experiences in structural engineering is inspired by the fact that our communities are vulnerable and continue to experience escalating threats by earthquake, tsunami, fire and blast. Reza became familiar with the concept of tsunami induced fires in the port cities of Tohoku and continued his research in fire laboratory at Michigan State University, focusing on the fire behavior of steel and composite structures. His experiences enabled him to contribute to number of blast projects in insurance industry and academia. He has also performed seismic design of a variety of mid-rise to high-rise projects, including office towers and factories according to U.S and international building codes.

Sarah Vandevert

Sarah Vandevert is a project engineer at Hinman's San Francisco office. Her project experience involved protective design for federal and state agencies with projects including county courthouses, VA hospitals, infrastructure and transportation, military barracks, and embassies. Some of Sarah's projects included progressive collapse analysis and system identification in soils. Sarah's attention to detail and innovative nature provides unique structural solutions to protective design challenges.

Shalva Marjanishvili

Dr. Marjanishvili leads Hinman's Advanced Technology practice, and is an expert in the dynamic non-linear response of structures to the effects of seismic, impact and explosive loadings. He uses a broad range of computational methods to develop models tailored for specific projects and analytical methods to evaluate the detailed design requirements for both new and existing buildings. Dr. Marjanishvili is responsible for Hinman Consulting Engineer's analytical capabilities including multi-hazard analysis, resilience management, progressive collapse, anti-terrorist design and analysis of air-blast response of existing and new structures He is a principal author of Hinman analysis software for evaluating structural response to threats using new and innovative analysis techniques and cost effective design solutions to provide and improve reliability and robustness of structural systems against various threats and hazards, natural or manmade. His experience includes resilience design, protective anti-terrorism design, progressive collapse mitigation, vulnerability and risk assessments of numerous federal office buildings including federal and state courthouses, embassy structures, aviation facilities, military installations, commercial building, pharmaceutical and petrochemical facilities.

Sidra Neal

Sidra Neal has over 15 years as an Executive Assistant. As the Executive Assistant at Hinman Consulting Engineers headquartered in San Francisco, she supports the President, Engineering staff and the Administration team which has 3 offices and over 20 employees. Before she joined the Hinman team, Sidra held a position of Executive Assistant/Financial Analyst at UCSF Foundation under the direction of the Executive Director of Finance and Administration.
