Anne M. Markowski

Anne Markowski joined HCP as a partner after a distinguished career as a prosecutor for Montgomery County and 17 years as a civil trial attorney in northeast Ohio. Ms. Markowski is an integral part of HCP's trial team focused upon the defense of private individuals and corporate clients in personal injury, wrongful death and product liability claims. Her team also specializes in construction defect cases, insurance coverage litigation and the defense of political subdivisions. As a prosecutor, Ms. Markowski focused upon physical and sexual abuse cases involving children. Her experiences have made her a skilled, relentless and passionate trial attorney. Ms. Markowski is a native of northeast Ohio and attended Archbishop Hoban High School. She has given back as a coach of its mock trial teams over the years. Outside of her practice, Ms. Markowski volunteers with the Honduran Children's Rescue Fund, which raises money to support Sociadad de los Ninos to provide education, housing, and a safe environment for impoverished children in Honduras. She travels to Honduras yearly as a volunteer, providing medical and dental care to the people of Honduras. Locally, she is an active volunteer for Cleveland's Playhouse Square District, and also supports fund raising efforts for the arts in Cleveland.

Carol N. Tran

Carol Tran returned to Hanna, Campbell & Powell, LLP as a partner in 2023 with a focus on the defense of medical malpractice claims. Ms. Tran's legal career originally began at HCP, where, for eight years, she maintained a dual practice in the insurance defense and medical malpractice groups. During her time in private practice, she maintained a winning record in trials and oral argument, attended hundreds of depositions and other court proceedings, and authored thousands of legal briefs. She was recognized by Super Lawyers as a 2018, 2019, and 2021 Ohio Rising Star. Ms. Tran brings a unique perspective from the judiciary, having served the citizens of Summit County as a Magistrate and Mediator for the Summit County Court of Common Pleas, General Division from 2020 to 2023. As a Magistrate, she presided over contentious civil hearings on a daily basis, utilizing a firm but fair approach. As a mediator, she employed an evaluative mediation style to successfully settle hundreds of civil litigation cases. Ms. Tran earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Akron School of Law with a Juris Doctorate degree. While in law school, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Akron Law Review, Akron Tax Journal, Akron Intellectual Property Journal, and the Akron Online Journal of Constitutional Law and Policy. She published Recognizing an Academic Freedom Exception to the Garcetti Limitation on the First Amendment Right to Free Speech, 45 Akron. L. Rev. 945 (2012). She received the CALI Award for Excellence for the highest grade in her class in Insurance Law and Constitutional Law II. She was also a member of the late Larry Sutter's nationally acclaimed Mock Trial Team. Ms. Tran currently serves on the Board of Directors and Nominating Committee of the Akron Bar Association and is an Akron Bar Foundation Fellow. She has also served as the legal advisor for the Archbishop Hoban High School Mock Trial Team for the past twelve years. In her free time, Ms. Tran enjoys hiking and biking, nature photography, baking, gardening, and collecting vinyl.

Catherine E. Nagy

In 2016, Ms. Nagy joined HCP, where she has become an integral part of the general litigation group. Her practice areas include personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, trucking accidents, and construction litigation. She also defends employees of political subdivisions, ranging from police officers, governmental employees, and city service workers to administrators, teachers, and athletic coaches. Before earning her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law in 2015, Ms. Nagy earned her bachelor's degree in English and Teaching English as a Second Language from Kent State University in 2012. During her studies, she completed a wide range of coursework in different areas of international communication, providing her with the tools to bridge the communication gap between different cultures. While in law school, Ms. Nagy took courses in alternative dispute resolution and completed over 50 hours of mediation training through the University of Akron Graduate School. Thereafter, she began volunteering as a mediator for the Akron Municipal Court, small claims division, where she still volunteers to this day. This allows Ms. Nagy to give back to and aid those in her community by helping them come to a fair and agreeable solution to various problems, such as landlord-tenant disputes, breaches of contracts, and debt collection. When away from the office, Ms. Nagy enjoys hiking and spending time outdoors with her two golden retrievers. She also enjoys reading and live music.

David T. Moss

Mr. Moss is one of the founding partners of HCP. Since 1982, Mr. Moss has carried on a sophisticated and diverse litigation practice with particular emphasis in the areas of product liability, wrongful death, toxic tort, medical malpractice defense, general personal injury, intentional tort, premises liability, and insurance defense. He also represents clients in commercial litigation matters including contract, property damage, environmental, and construction claims. Mr. Moss has successfully handled and tried cases in both state and federal courts throughout Ohio as well as in Connecticut, Kentucky, Illinois, and West Virginia. During the course of his career, Mr. Moss has tried more than 70 civil cases to verdict and arbitrated or mediated scores of others. He has argued cases before the Ohio Supreme Court, numerous Ohio Courts of Appeal, as well as before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Moss has also lectured nurses and other health care providers on a variety of topics, including medical documentation and malpractice avoidance strategies. Since 2009, Mr. Moss has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer in the areas of general personal injury defense and medical malpractice defense. Since 2002, Mr. Moss has carried the Martindale-Hubble "AV Preeminent" rating, signifying the highest possible peer rating in both legal ability and ethical standards.

Mr. Lyons was one of the nine founding partners of Hanna, Campbell and Powell. He was licensed to practice law in 1982. Mr. Lyons is a lead attorney in HCP's product and general liability group. His practice areas include personal injury defense, toxic tort defense, product liability, professional liability, commercial litigation, and insurance litigation. Mr. Lyons has been lead counsel in approximately 100 trials and has been involved in the defense of toxic tort matters across the country. As a result of his trial practice, Mr. Lyons has extensive experience in state and federal appellate courts. PNH, Inc. v. Alfa Laval Flow, Inc., 130 Ohio St.3d 278 is a case which Mr. Lyons successfully argued before the Ohio Supreme Court.

Michael Ockerman

Mr. Ockerman joined the firm in 2000 as a partner. Mr. Ockerman's primary area is medical defense. Mr. Ockerman was a surgical assistant for ten years prior to earning his law degree. Since entering the practice of law in 1991, Mr. Ockerman has practiced primarily in the area of medical malpractice defense. He has defended hundreds of physicians, many hospitals, and other medical professional malpractice suits throughout Northeast Ohio. He has tried more than fifty jury trials to conclusion in Cuyahoga, Columbiana, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Portage, and Mahoning Counties.

Robert L. Tucker

Mr. Tucker was one of the founding partners of HCP. He now serves in an Of Counsel capacity. Mr. Tucker has represented both insurers and policyholders. He is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in Insurance Coverage Law. Since 1999, he has held an appointment as an adjunct professor teaching Insurance Law at the University of Akron School of Law. Mr. Tucker serves as an arbitrator for several elite providers of alternative dispute resolution services, including the American Arbitration Association. He is a member of the AAA's Commercial Insurance panel and its Complex Coverage Neutral Evaluation panel, both of which are composed of nationally recognized coverage experts, academics, and former judges with insurance law expertise. Mr. Tucker has often spoken at continuing legal education seminars for attorneys, paralegals, and insurance claim professionals. His published articles have been cited as authoritative by federal and state courts from Delaware to Hawaii, and in more than 30 articles written by leading scholars. In his leisure time, Mr. Tucker studies ancient history and archaeology, and enjoys traveling anywhere that is sunny and warm. He is one of the co-founders of Stewards of Historical Preservation, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization devoted to preserving northeast Ohio's cultural resources. An avid outdoorsman, he also serves as a member of the volunteer trail patrol for Summit Metro Parks. ACHIEVEMENTS Mr. Tucker is a two-time recipient (2012 and 1999) of the UA Law Alumni Publications Award, which is conferred by the Akron Law Alumni Association to the alumnus with the most outstanding law-related publication during the preceding year. In 2010, Mr. Tucker received the John R. Quine Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award, which is presented annually to the adjunct professor at the University of Akron School of Law who has most successfully combined a practical approach to the teaching of law with a scholarly approach to the private practice of law. In 2008, Mr. Tucker received the Friend of Legal Education Award, which is presented by the Ohio State Bar Association to the member of the Ohio bar who has contributed most to legal education. Mr. Tucker was invited by the Ohio Supreme Court to serve as a mentor in the pilot term of the Lawyer-to-Lawyer Mentoring Program, and served annually thereafter through 2011. He received the 2005-2006 Committee Chair of the Year from the Akron Bar Association for outstanding service on the University of Akron Liaison Committee. He is also a Fellow of the Akron Bar Association Foundation, a designation that is conferred upon those attorneys who are widely recognized by the legal community for their superior legal ability and staunch professionalism. Mr. Campbell leads HCP's employment law group, which represents employers throughout the state in civil and administrative proceedings. Presently, Mr. Campbell represents employers in retail and wholesale food processing, light and heavy manufacturing, interstate trucking, gas, and petroleum processing and transportation, as well as a number of commercial and health care facilities. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Campbell was employed by the State of Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation and by a third-party administrator specializing in Ohio workers' compensation matters. Since 1981, he has successfully represented employers before the Bureau of Workers' Compensation and Industrial Commission as well as in court, including the Supreme Court of Ohio. Mr. Campbell also represents employers in unlawful discharge, intentional tort, unemployment compensation matters, and before the Ohio Civil Rights Commission/Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He has extensive experience in defending VSSRs (Application for Additional Award for Violation of a Specific Safety Requirement) and Mandamus actions.
