Every automobile imported from the United States or Canada needs to be readjusted and refitted in order to be inspected and approved by the Technical Examination Board (commonly known as the TüV) and be issued the proper papers before it can be registered in Germany... Because the regulations in relation to TüV approval of US automobiles are considerable, the process leading to vehicle registration can be time-consuming and above all, costly... Expensive certificates, difficult to acquire fact sheets and considerable refitting on the vehicle make TüV approval and the final acquisition of the German registration nearly impossible.
