Alicia Morishita

Alicia has taken on the role of ICS Canada Secretariat as of Dec 2022. In this role, Alicia is responsible for organizing meetings and events, writing minutes, and assisting with other various tasks. She is also the Office and Meeting Coordinator at the Chamber of Shipping, where she has worked since 2017. At the Chamber of Shipping, she developed her skills in customer service, organization, and office management. She has also assisted in the past with the ICS Secretariat position with previous ICS Conferences and Dry Bulk events. During her spare time, Alicia enjoys trying new foods, going to concerts with friends, and spending quality time with her family.

Andriy Tereschchenko

Andriy graduated Odessa National Maritime Academy (Ukraine) in 1993 with a Master of Science Degree in Marine Navigation and Engineering and worked as a deck officer on deep sea ships. After moving to Vancouver in 2004, Andriy was working for the Orient Overseas Container Line (Canada), Vancouver Fraser Port Authorities, Pacific Basin Shipping Company and MSC.

Hugo Brent

Hugo emigrated from London to Vancouver in 2013 and began his shipping career as a Ships Agent soon afterwards. After several years attending vessels in and around the Port of Vancouver he joined the Navico Chartering team in 2017 where he works in Chartering and Operations in the dry bulk shipping market. Prior to entering the shipping industry, Hugo worked in the International education industry and brings that experience to the Student Liaison role. Outside of work hours Hugo is usually found outdoors, cycling, hiking or camping in Vancouver's surrounding mountains.

Johan Hasch

Johan began his shipping career in 2011 as a trainee in Hamburg for John T. Essberger, a leading European chemical tanker company. He graduated in 2014 from the Hamburg School of Shipping and Transportation as a "Schifffahrtskaufmann" under the German apprenticeship scheme. Moving to Oldendorff Carriers in 2014, he worked in various departments and offices in Luebeck, Hamburg, and Singapore. In 2022, he joined the Vancouver office as Senior Operations Manager for the Windenergy / OHBS desk. Outside work, Johan is completing a part-time MSc in Supply Chain Management & Global Logistics from the University of London. He enjoys traveling with his wife Hannah, spending time outdoors, and being with family and friends.

Kay Afghahi

Kay has graduated in 2011 at the Australian Maritime College and the University of Applied Sciences Bremen in Germany with a Bachelor degree in Shipping & Chartering. He has been since working in operations department of Pacific Basin in United Kingdom, United States, China and New Zealand before moving with Pacific Basin in 2014 to Vancouver. Kay is currently working as a chartering Manager. Since 2012, Kay has been actively involved in London and Vancouver at the ICS Branch Committees with focus on supporting students and young professionals to connect within the maritime industry.

Peter Swanson

Peter is a senior litigation lawyer with over 35 years of experience and is a founding partner of Bernard LLP. Peter practices extensively in the field of maritime law, handling cases involving the enforcement of maritime liens, vessel arrest and security, carriage of cargo, civil and regulatory liability for ship source pollution, collision, salvage, port state control, immigration, bodily injury, charterparty disputes, and constitutional issues arising in a marine context. Peter appears regularly as counsel before courts and other tribunals. He has represented clients at all levels of court in Canada, including the British Columbia Supreme Court, the Federal Court, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Peter has also been appointed and acted as an arbitrator in maritime law cases. Peter speaks and writes frequently on maritime law topics, and is an adjunct professor of law co-teaching the maritime law course at the University of British Columbia. He is recognized by his peers as a leader in the field of maritime law being listed in The Best Lawyers in Canada, Chambers Canada, the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Who's Who Legal: Canada.

Tom Day

After being educated at Christ's Hospital school in the UK, Tom graduated Edinburgh University with a Master of Arts degree in Economics in 2010. He started his shipping career with Galbraiths in 2011 as a trainee shipbroker before joining Koch Carbon as a Charterer in 2014 where he took his ICS exams, receiving the Port of London Authority award. In 2018, Tom joined Swire and after a brief stint in the London office moved to Vancouver where he has been working ever since. Tom is passionate about helping economically disadvantaged young people access opportunities they otherwise would not have been able to and will work hard to help the ICS achieve this aim. Tom and Tessa have one young boy and ou tside of work, Tom and family love to sail, ski, cycle and generally be outdoors as much as possible.
