Ken Heard was born in Mobile, Alabama, on April 16, 1956, and has been a resident of Baldwin County, Alabama, for many years. He attended elementary school through high school in Mobile County and graduated from UMS Preparatory School in 1974. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Alabama in 1978, and his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama in 1981. He is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and the Theta Chi Social Fraternity.
Ken Heard has been a practicing attorney in Baldwin County since 1983. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar and the United States District Court in 1981 and was admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court in 1984. He is a member of the Baldwin County Bar Association, the Alabama Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
Over the years, Ken Heard has served in various capacities for several local organizations. Among his civic activities, he is a member and past President of the Eastern Shore Sertoma Club and a past President of Fairhope Rotary Club. Ken Heard is on the Board of Directors of South Baldwin United Way and is active in the Fairhope community.
