Chris is Managing Director of JMG, and Principal Electrical Engineer within JMG's Building Services Group, incorporating Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Hydraulic, Lifts, Security and ITC services. In his 35 years in the consulting engineering sector, and 21 years with JMG, Chris has undertaken the key role as engineering design manager for a broad portfolio of major, high profile projects, across the government and commercial sectors, encompassing offices, health, education, retail and recreational developments. In addition to his technical engineering skills, Chris offers skills in overall project planning and management, in particular through the master planning and feasibility phases, to develop those ‘big picture' concepts which define the desired outcomes of a project. Chris is always focussed on the importance of listening to and understanding client expectations, which forms the basis of developing successful long term working relationships.

Chris delivers engineering services for highways and residential, commercial and industrial subdivisions. Chris' civil engineering career began with the Tasmanian Government's Department of Transport where he specialized in road design.

Colin is a Director and Manager of JMG's Building Services Group incorporating Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Hydraulic, Lifts, Security and ITC services. In his 35 years in the industry, and 25 years with JMG, Colin has practiced in Sydney, London, Vietnam and Tasmania. His experience covers a diverse range of projects, from small refurbishments to multistorey hotels, from office buildings to aquatic centres, from energy systems to research laboratories. Colin's passion for efficiency and elegance in design see him responsible for design concepts, quality assurance and professional development within the Group to ensure JMG's reputation for professional service and innovative design are sustained and delivered now and into the future.

Grant Atherton

Grant is a Director of JMG and Manager of the Construction and Industry Group incorporating the Structural, Civil, and Building Services Hydraulics disciplines. In his 35 years in the industry and 18 years with JMG, Grant has practiced across the government, construction and consulting sectors. His experience covers a diverse range of projects, from residential and commercial subdivisions to major highways, from pipelines to pump stations, from railways to reservoirs, from sheds to offices, from marinas to museums, from dams to demolition, from bridges to boardwalks, from reed beds to remediation. Grant's construction experience allows him to ensure design concepts and details specified are both easily constructed and economical while still meeting required quality parameters. Grant has a passion for innovation and looks beyond the normal solutions to achieve optimum outcomes for JMG's clients.

Ian Johnston

Mr. Johnston joined JMG in 1973 following two years with the Hydro-Electric Commission Tasmania as a soils and rock mechanics engineer in their Civil Engineering Laboratory. Ian hence has some forty-five years of experience the bulk of which has been in consulting engineering. During this time, he has been involved in all aspects of civil, structural and hydraulic engineering, investigation, design, documentation, administration and project management. Ian was appointed as Director in 1984 and became Managing Director in 1999. Over the years Ian shared his knowledge and wealth of experience in community roles including Director of the Hutchins School Board of Management. Ian completed the maximum allowable term with the Executive Management Committee in 2009 and subsequently became a Director of the Hutchins Foundation. Ian has chosen to retire as Managing Director and transition away from full-time work. He continues to share his skill and expertise as a consultant with JMG.

Matthew Clark

Significant projects Matthew has worked on include the Hobart International Airport Land Use Strategy, Northern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy, the Royal Hobart Showgrounds Master Plan and the Single Hill Master Plan. Matthew is the primary contact for any Town Planning enquiries and oversees all related projects. Mat has over fourteen years' experience in strategic and statutory planning and he is an industry leader in residential master planning and environmental impact assessment. He has a working knowledge of the Tasmanian, NSW and ACT planning systems and has appeared regularly before the Resource Management Planning Appeals Tribunal (RMPAT) and the Tasmanian Planning Commission (TPC) as expert witness.

Neil Lowry

Nicholas Stolp

Nicholas is responsible for technical design standards and oversees all mechanical design projects. During his 20 years in the engineering design industry, Nicholas has worked on a broad range of projects including commercial and institutional buildings, offices, hospitals, laboratories, hotels, shopping centres, theatres, galleries and museums. Nicholas also heads up JMG's Integrated Fire Safety Design Team which coordinates compliance and optimization for fire designs across all JMG divisions. He is both a Green Star Accredited Practitioner and NABERS Accredited Assessor. Significant projects Nicholas has worked on include the Australian Antarctic Division (Kingston), Hydro Tasmania Cambridge Office and the Hobart Myer Redevelopment.

Nick Allen

Nic k Allen joined JMG in 2005 after 7 years with an electrical contractor and 2 years with a specialist mining and High Voltage engineering firm. Nic k offers considerable experience in both design and documentation and contract administration phases for engineering of government, institutional, commercial buildings and industrial systems. He has developed a particular speciality in power reticulation, lighting design and industrial process control systems.

Ray Berry

Ray's maintenance experience spans almost 50 years and he is responsible for contracts administration and client representation for all industrial and commercial building maintenance projects throughout Tasmania. Ray is responsible for the Building Maintenance Division which services over 500 facilities and $4.8M in annual maintenance contracts.

Robert Child

Robert has over 15 years of experience in structural, civil and hydraulic design and contract administration across commercial, industrial and residential sectors. His expertise includes steel, timber and reinforced concrete structural design. Robert joined JMG in January 2001 as a graduate Civil Engineer, and has since gained experience in structural, civil and hydraulic design and contract administration in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors. Robert now manages the Structural section and has a vast experience in areas in structural and civil engineering, including steel, timber, reinforced and post tensioned concrete, pipelines, roads, subdivisions, industrial and commercial works.
