Douglas C. Crapo

Douglas Crapo began practicing with the firm in 2003 and became a shareholder of the firm in 2010. Mr. Crapo received his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997. He subsequently attended law school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received his J.D. degree in 2002. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2003. Mr. Crapo is a member of the State Bar of California and the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association. He currently serves on the board of the Paso Robles Children's Museum. His practice emphasizes business transactions and real estate law.

Jay L. Raftery - Chief Legal Officer

As a highly-experienced lawyer with local Central California roots, Jay L. Raftery Jr. has built a broad and varied career that has taken him from fast-attack submarines, to the movie business, to highly complex corporate, real property, and regulatory law. He is thoroughly at home in a host of settings and armed with the knowledge, skill, and experience to do the very best for his clients. Jay L. Raftery Jr. provides exceptional legal solutions for a variety of clients in diverse industries including health care (medical practice governance and compliance); public entities (land use, zoning and school district litigation); employment; real property (development and landlord/tenant law); and of course, entertainment law. Simply put, Jay has a keen aptitude for complex regulatory areas and can make those onerous regulations finally make sense. In one particular area of expertise, Jay advises and defends clients in connection with the complexities inherent in the Americans with Disabilities Act's and its impact on private employers and public accommodations. Jay received his B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Southern California, with an emphasis in finance. He served as a student ambassador and graduated with recognition. He earned his J.D. degree from the University of Denver, where he served as staff editor of the "Transportation Law Journal," graduate assistant to the dean of students, and as a member of the Moot Court. In the U.S. Navy, Jay served in the U.S. Pacific Fleet on submarines as a sonar technician and diver. Jay is admitted to practice in all the courts of the State of California and the State of Arizona as well as the California Central and Northern Districts and the Arizona District of the United States District Courts. Joseph W. Diehl

Joseph Diehl obtained his B.S., M.S., and J.D. degrees from the University of California at Davis in 1974, 1975, and 1978, respectively. He received his M.S. degree in human anatomy, specializing in neuro anatomy. After graduate school he attended law school at the University of California at Davis and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1978. He is currently admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in the state of California. Mr. Diehl began his practice in 1978 as an attorney in the litigation department of the Southern Pacific Transportation Company in San Francisco, representing the railroad's interests in various litigation matters throughout Northern California. He was an associate with a San Luis Obispo business law firm from 1980 through 1982. He opened his own office in October of 1982 and developed a successful and diverse practice, emphasizing commercial, business and real property transactions and litigation, and general business law matters. He currently belongs to several professional associations, including the State Bar of California, the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association, and the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. He was the past chairman (1990) of the Governing Committee for California Continuing Education of the Bar, having served on that committee the previous four years. He has served as a member of the Business Law section of the California State Bar Committee on Continuing Education, and as a Trustee of the San Luis Obispo County Law Library.

Roderick A. Rodewald

Mr. Rodewald was admitted to the California State Bar in 1979 and joined a San Luis Obispo business law firm shortly thereafter. In 1982, he left that firm to become in-house regulatory counsel for a consortium of telecommunications firms. In that capacity, he represented those clients before the Federal Communications Commission and other regulatory agencies. He returned to private practice in 1984 and co-founded Diehl & Rodewald in 1985. For over 35 years, he has represented a broad range of businesses, professionals and service providers, with an emphasis on business and real property transactions, environmental matters, and employment matters. A member of the State Bar of California and San Luis Obispo County Bar Association, he has also served as Trustee of the San Luis Obispo County Law Library.

Sean N. Nagel

Sean Nagel joined Diehl & Rodewald as an associate in 2011. Mr. Nagel received his B.S. degree in Biology from the University of California at San Diego in 2003 and subsequently received his J.D. degree from Boston University School of Law in 2006. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 2007 and to the Hawaii State Bar in 2009. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Nagel practiced general civil litigation in Los Angeles, with an emphasis on employment law, wage loss, and personal injury. He is a member of the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association and the State Bar Association of California. His practice focuses on business transactions and real estate law, as well as general civil litigation.
