S. Ross Browne studied Art and Design at Virginia Commonwealth University. A professional studio artist of over 30 years, he is mainly a figurative painter and has exhibited domestically and internationally in over 70 gallery and museum exhibitions. His artwork is in the permanent collections of the Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Valentine Museum, Black History Museum of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University plus such private collections as the Try Me Gallery (Pam and Bill Royall), Dr. Monroe Harris, and the estate of Peggy Cafritz. As an Illustrator, Browne has produced art work for various publications including St. Martin's Press, The U.S. Department of the Interior, The McDonald's Corporation of Northern California, The ACLU and Jacaranda Books. As a muralist S. Ross Browne has completed works in New York and in various cities in Virginia. Highlights include being a featured artist for The Mending Walls Project, the selected artist for the Marshall-Ridley Choice Neighborhood Initiative for the City of Newport News, Virginia, muralist for The Woodberry Forest School Windows and Mirrors Project, a selected muralist for the Sankofa Community Orchard and a host of private and corporate mural projects throughout the city of Richmond. In his past position as Art Specialist for the VCU Health System S. Ross Browne practiced therapeutic art instruction for patients in pediatric hematology/oncology, infectious disease, brain injury and elder care and various support groups. Browne has advocated for and instructed at risk and underrepresented youth through Fresh Air Fund, Weed and Seed, Project Ready, Art 180 and The Anna Julia Cooper School. Browne is currently an instructor of painting at the Visual Arts Center in Richmond, Virginia.
