JWAC's heritage can be traced back to engineers at the Naval Support Facility in Dahlgren that earned a reputation for innovative excellence supporting the 1979 Iranian hostage rescue mission. These engineers were brought together with scientists and analysts to form the Naval Warfare Analysis Center, which became the Joint Warfare Analysis Center in 1994. JWAC supported the nation in crises, often with team members deployed forward, from Operation ALLIED FORCE in the former Yugoslavia, to Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan, to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, to humanitarian missions in Haiti... JWAC, 400 people strong, has approximately 360 civilians and 40 military, comprised mostly of engineers, scientists, and analysts. JWAC has been recognized for excellence with the Joint Meritorious Unit Award five times, the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office's Government Team Achievement for Modeling Analysis twice, and the Navy's Nathaniel Stinson Equal Employment Opportunity Program..
