Malcolm W. Bell

Malcolm Bell was first called to the Ontario Bar (the Law Society of Upper Canada) in 1969 and since then, has acted in various legal capacities in several jurisdictions. He received his early education in the U.K. and holds degrees in Economics and Law from the University of Toronto and a Master's degree in East Asian Law from the School of Oriental Studies, University of London. His main specialties are in the corporate/commercial fields and he has engaged in private practice in Toronto, Brighton (U.K), Hong Kong and currently, Vancouver. He has been an in-house counsel, specializing in trade practices, for two U.S. multi-nationals and has been an adviser on commercial contracts for a branch of the Ontario Provincial Government. His diversity has extended to his role as a speech-write for another U.S. multi-national prior to embarking upon his career in law, during which time he was also a writer for the largest public relations firm operating in Toronto at that time. He was retained for one year as the international coordinator of an education/cultural exchange which took place been Canada and Sri Lanka. And over the years, has been frequently involved in cross-cultural settings. For over 25 years, he has successfully combined practice with part-time lecturing in business law, contracts and civil procedure, both in Toronto and latterly, Hong Kong where he assisted most of the principal universities there. On behalf of its Open University, he authored a course textbook on Corporate Law for the Master's program in Accounting and was a contributing editor for the first Hong Kong Legal Dictionary to be published. He also combined a local, Hong Kong-based practice with his role as vice-president of legal affairs for an immigration-linked international investment company which assisted in the relocation to Canada, of clients from Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China and Taiwan. He relocated to the Vancouver area in 2001 and remains in practice with an emphasis on commercial worked, property transaction and trade-marks, for which he is a registered agent.
