Adrian C. Burke - Chairman

The Partners are delighted to announce the appointment of Adrian Burke as Chairman of the Partnership with effect from 1 March 2024. Mr Burke is a corporate finance lawyer with a distinguished career spanned over 30 years in the sector. He is a former senior partner at A&L Goodbody LLP where his practice focused on strategic advice to Irish and international corporate and financial institution clients. He has acted on a wide range of significant corporate and financing transactions across Ireland and internationally. As Chairman, Mr Burke will work closely with the Partners and will focus on the firm's strategic planning and business development.

Ciara Lennon

Damian Hand

Damian leads the Banking and Finance Team with his transactional expertise and assists the Corporate/Commercial Team with his corporate commercial expertise. Damian has extensively advised on lending transactions and on corporate, commercial transactions. His specialisms within the banking and finance include a well regarded practice in lending, refinancing, securitisation, restructuring, security related due diligence and security enforcement across a wide range of finance including acquisition finance, property finance, construction finance, syndicated lending and debt/security ranking. He is well regarded for his extensive expertise in advisory and transactional work within his corporate and commercial practice across a range of size and focus within the business community and he particularly specialises in corporate finance, acquisitions and disposal, commercial contracts and joint ventures. His clients value him as practical, commercially driven and always staying close to his client and the deal from commencement, driving it to its conclusion. Damian has been a partner in Kane Tuohy LLP since 2009. He graduated from the University of Natal in South Africa in 1993 with a BA LLB and was admitted as an attorney in South Africa in 1998. He was admitted as an Irish qualified solicitor in 2004. He was also admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2002. Prior to Kane Tuohy, Damian was a partner at Lennon Heather Solicitors from 2005 to 2009 (having commenced practice with the firm in 2001) and an attorney with Strauss Daly Inc. Durban South Africa prior to that. Damian obtained a certificate in forensic accounting and fraud examination from the University of Pretoria in the year 2000.

David Walsh

David Walsh is a Senior Associate in Kane Tuohy's Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. His goal is to achieve the best commercial outcome for his clients, who include pillar and boutique banks, financial institutions, private and publicly listed companies, insolvency practitioners, and private clients. With his vast experience, David's areas of expertise include banking litigation, dispute resolution, various forms of injunctive relief, professional negligence actions, insolvency litigation, debt recovery and asset tracing, probate litigation, insurance litigation, commercial tenancy disputes, and complex enforcement of judgments to include the appointment of equitable receivers, as well as the operation of well-charging orders. David has significant experience in the Chancery Division of the High Court, and he is currently representing a corporate client in proceedings where Anton Piller style orders were obtained and acted on, and where damages for industrial espionage and conspiracy are claimed against former employees - and against a principal, publicly listed, US supplier - of the client.

Dorothy Cleary

Dorothy Cleary is a commercial litigation solicitor who advises on commercial landlord and tenant disputes, contractual disputes, banking, debt recovery, and property disputes. She acts for a wide range of clients, from financial institutions, corporate clients and commercial landlords, to management companies and pension funds. Her clients have included large corporates and institutions and she has advised on a range of legal matters relating to property portfolios, debt recovery, judgement enforcement and liquidation. In 2006, Dorothy graduated from TCD with a BA (Hons) in Economics and Spanish. She trained with Kane Tuohy and was admitted as a solicitor in 2012. After a year with an international law firm in the UK, Dorothy re-joined Kane Tuohy in 2016.

Grainne Loughnane

Grainne Loughnane is a Partner and head of the Real Estate Department in Kane Tuohy LLP. A commercial property lawyer with extensive experience in all areas of commercial real estate, Grainne acts for a wide range of institutional investors, developers, receivers, lending institutions and private investors. Grainne acts for leading national and international property developers in the sale, purchase, and leasing of large scale residential and commercial developments to international property funds, institutional investors, local authorities and housing bodies. She also acts for both landlords and tenants in the negotiation of complex commercial leasing of retail, commercial office space and industrial space. Grainne has a particular niche expertise in the acquisition and leasing of social housing portfolios through the appropriate fund structures and has successfully navigated her clients from inception to completion to facilitate investment in the Irish social housing market. Grainne has over 20 years legal experience, having started her legal career in a boutique practice in Dublin. She moved to a top tier International law firm, where she enhanced her real estate experience and client base. She leads our Real Estate department and with her team, has developed a strong and reputable practice, representing some of Ireland's leading international property funds, property developers and alternative lenders. Grainne holds an LL.B. honours degree in Law and a Certificate in Conveyancing and Property Law. Grainne was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2013. She is also a member of the Law Society of England and Wales, the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland, the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association and the Irish Women Lawyers Association. Hugh Kane

Hugh Kane heads up our Commercial Dispute Resolution team, with specialties in restructuring and planning law. He is results-driven, and is as comfortable to mediate as to litigate. He has represented clients as diverse as radio stations, quarry-owners, and developers. He has defended banks in respect of their lending practices; and advised them on enforcement strategies. He has advised regulators on the interpretation of their statutory powers and functions; and has also advised in judicial reviews. Recently, Hugh has advised clients in securing Springboard and Anton Piller orders; mediated several shareholding disputes; advised shareholders on an examinership; advised the liquidator of an adoption agency in connection with myriad claims; and advised clients on the likely impact of SCARP. A graduate of University College of Dublin, Hugh has practiced for 25 years, and is a founding partner of Kane Tuohy.

Hugh McDonald

Hugh is a Solicitor in Kane Tuohy's Commercial/Litigation Department. He has experience in advising a wide range of clients on corporate law matters. In particular, he has experience in advising clients on commercial agreements, advising generally on corporate transactional work both acquisitions and sales, shareholders agreements and contract law matters. Hugh also has experience in the areas of civil and commercial litigation and has provided advice to a broad range of private and corporate clients. He graduated from UCD with a Masters in Common Law in 2020 and as admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2025. Hugh is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and has also recently completed a Diploma in Corporate Law and Governance in 2024.

Jim Gibbons

Jonathan Finan

A senior associate solicitor in Kane Tuohy's Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department, Jonathan Finan has extensive experience in commercial and civil litigation, having represented both private and corporate clients in all court jurisdictions. He acts on behalf of a variety of corporate clients, including many blue-chip companies and financial institutions. He has represented clients in commercial disputes, debt recovery, personal insolvency, banking and property litigation. He also acts for private clients in various contentious civil matters, including the defence and prosecution of personal injury actions, defamation cases and employment disputes. Jonathan holds diplomas from the Law Society of Ireland in E-commerce, Commercial Litigation, and Insurance Law; as well as a Personal Insolvency Practitioner Certificate and a Certificate in Banking Law Practice and Bankruptcy. He graduated from NUI Galway with a BCL Degree and an LLB, qualifying as a solicitor in 2007.

Kate Marquis

Kate Marquis is a Senior Associate in the Real Estate Department and has extensive expertise in advising on all commercial real estate matters including commercial leasing, commercial property acquisitions and disposals, development schemes and landlord and tenant matters. Kate has over 20 years experience in legal practice and worked as a senior associate in the property department in one of Ireland's leading law firms for a number of years prior to joining Kane Tuohy LLP. Her experience spans a wide variety of commercial and residential real estate transactions including development, acquisition, disposal, financing and leasing. Kate acts for a wide variety of clients, both corporate and private, across the property spectrum to include developers, multi national corporations, receivers and liquidators with a particular interest in the Irish social housing market. Kate also has extensive experience in the area of Wills, Probate and the Administration of Estates. Kate holds an Honours Degree in Business Studies and Certificate in Conveyancing and Property Law. Kate was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2010. She is also admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales.

Laura O'Brien

Michelle O' Grady

Prior to joining Kane Tuohy LLP in March 2024, Michelle worked with established Dublin Law Firms who specialised in advising lending institutions on mortgage litigation and asset recovery. Sarah Reynolds is a Partner at Kane Tuohy, and heads our Commercial and Data Protection Department.
