Experience:
John's experience spans more than 40 years in a variety of areas, from commercial litigation and administrative disputes through insolvency, corporate governance, general commercial, and property law.
He has been with King & Company for more than 30 years and practises principally in:
providing advice to Council clients on local government?related issues, including governance, risk management and liability, procurements, rating and revenue, roads, resumptions, and less usual but no less emotive issues such constitutional and other statutory limitations;
contract negotiation and preparation - including invitations to tender and associated contracts (e.g. refuse collection/management contracts, works contracts, wastewater supply/re-use contracts), infrastructure agreements, management agreements, joint ventures, mining-related agreements, loan agreements, development agreements;
corporate and trust structures;
commercial and local government leasing - including leases and related transactions concerning commercial complexes and local government?specific projects, and local government leases and permits for clubs and other community organizations;
major property acquisitions, disposals and developments - including commercial office and retail complexes, and development of community titles and multiple dwelling complexes.

Experience:
Admitted to practise in 2023, Kody joined King and Company as a law clerk whilst completing his studies at Griffith University.
Prior to joining King and Company, Kody worked as a conveyancing paralegal in Queensland.
Kody is a solicitor in our Planning & Environment Group focusing on Planning and Environment Court litigation and providing advice on town planning issues to local governments across Queensland.

Experience:
Thomas has practiced in other areas of law throughout Queensland and joined King & Company as a solicitor in November 2023. He was admitted in May 2021.
Responsibilities:
In Planning and Environment matters, Thomas assists with advice to local governments on planning and development, development compliance and enforcement, planning scheme reviews and conducting appeals in the Planning & Environment Court.
In Industrial Relations matters, Thomas assists with drafting documents and advice in relation to the following:
Terminating employees and implementing workplace change;
Disciplinary action procedures (and drafting associated notices of disciplinary action);
The interpretation of certified agreements, the various local government awards and contracts of employment.
Thomas holds a current restricted employee practicing certificate from the Queensland Law Society.
