Brian joined Laurium Capital in September 2017. He graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Business Science (Honours) in 1994. He qualified as a CA(SA) (chartered accountant)having completed his training at Deloitte in 1999. He joined Deutsche Bank in Johannesburg in 2000 and went on to run the South African equity sales desk. In 2008, Brian was promoted to managing director and relocated by Deutsche Bank to London where he headed the Central and Eastern Europe Middle East and Africa (CEMEA) equity sales team. In 2013, Brian relocated to Cape Town and joined Coronation Fund Managers as the lead international client services fund manager, a role he fulfilled for 3.5 years. Brian is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (FCA) and holds a Diploma in Advanced South Africa Banking Law (Cum Laude) from the Rand Afrikaans University (now known as the University of Johannesburg).
Cathy joined Laurium in February 2023, having spent most of her career in the UK, most recently as a senior RFP writer at Columbia Threadneedle Investments where she spent nearly seven years. Prior to that she worked at State Street Global Advisors in London, and Jacques Malan & Associates in Cape Town. Cathy holds a B.Sc. Mathematical Modelling.
David joined Laurium Capital in October 2021. He worked (and continues to work part-time) as a lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand in Investments and Research Methods in the Honours in Finance programme. David holds an MCom in Finance and has published research into risk, factor premia and derivative strategies.

Dwayne joined Laurium Capital in May 2015. Prior to joining Laurium, Dwayne, worked at Electus, a boutique asset manager which is part of the Old Mutual Investment Group, where he was a research analyst for their GEMs and South Africa equity funds. Dwayne also spent time working for Berman Capital, a US retail long/short fund based in New York before joining Electus. Dwayne worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on the audit and financial due diligence teams where he was involved in over 30 buy/sell side deals. Dwayne holds a CA(SA) and CFA. Dwayne was promoted to a Co-Portfolio Manager of the Laurium Equity Fund in 2019.

Before moving back to South Africa to start Laurium Capital with Murray, he worked for Deutsche Bank (London) and was responsible for strategic equity structuring in Africa (including SA), the Middle East, and Central Europe. He worked for Deutsche Securities SA before moving to London, and was responsible for equity structuring and derivatives in the equities business, and a member of the equities executive committee. Prior to the structuring side of the business, Gavin was an equity analyst, rated number 1 or 2 in Financial Mail in several sectors each year from 2000. Gavin holds a CA(SA) and CFA.
Jaedon joined Laurium Capital in January 2024 on our internship program. Before joining Laurium he worked for a year as a Full-Stack Developer at SmartMob, creating custom software for various industries. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a co-major in Computer Engineering from the University of Cape Town.
Co-Portfolio Manager, Analyst & Head: SA Research
Junaid joined Laurium in November 2019. Before joining Laurium, he was the Head of Equities at Argon Asset Management where he was responsible for the overall research output and portfolio management of over R15bn of equity funds. Junaid also spent 6 years in Abu Dhabi as a senior investment analyst. He began his career in asset management as a trainee analyst at Oasis Asset Management in 2003. He is a CFA Charter holder and has a Bachelor of Business Science degree from the University of Cape Town.
Kailan joined Laurium Capital in January 2021 on our internship program. He completed his Charted Accountancy articles at Deloitte, within the Financial Institutions and Services Team. During his articles, Kailan gained exposure to a diverse portfolio of clients from the Asset Management, Banking and Private Equity Sectors. Kailan holds a BCom and PGDip in Accounting Sciences from the University of Pretoria and is a CFA Level III Candidate.
Kevin joined Laurium Capital in February 2009. He was at Bridge Capital in the corporate finance division where he was involved in a variety of valuation, listing, due diligence and corporate restructuring assignments. Kevin worked at Deutsche Bank London in the Business Planning and Development division before joining Bridge Capital. He started his career as a Forex trader at Anglo American. Kevin holds a CA and CFA.
Kim joined Laurium Capital in September 2013 and handles business development and marketing. Before that, Kim was CEO of StoneHouse Capital, a subsidiary of the Liberty Group. She spent 9 years at STANLIB, which is South Africa's largest Unit Trust Company, where she held a variety of positions including Head of Offshore products and Head of the Unit Trust Company. Kim started her financial career at RMB Asset Management in 1998. Kim holds a CFA.
Mark joined Laurium Capital in March 2011 as Chief Operating Officer. Before this, he worked for the Aveng Group where he assumed roles in financial management and corporate finance. Mark spent time in Bermuda gaining experience in the alternative investments industry after completion of his articles with Deloitte. Mark holds a Bachelor of Business Science Honours in Finance degree and CFA.

Matthew joined Laurium Capital in 2013. He served articles at Deloitte's Johannesburg office in their financial institutions team servicing banking, insurance and private equity clients. After completing his articles, he was seconded to Deloitte's San Francisco's office and qualified as a Chartered Accountant at the beginning of 2013. Prior to joining Laurium, he worked for Deloitte Corporate Finance's Transaction Services team performing buy-side due diligence reviews. Matthew was promoted to a Co-Portfolio Manager of the Laurium Hedge Funds in 2019. He holds a CA(SA) and CFA.
Melanie joined Laurium Capital in December 2020 as a portfolio manager focusing on the fixed income portfolios and contributing to the multi-asset portfolios. Melanie was a founding member of Tantalum Capital where for 15 years she was Head of Fixed Interest and the portfolio manager for the fixed income portfolios as well as contributing to the multi-asset portfolios. From 2002 to 2005 Melanie was at Coronation Fund Managers where she was head of the fixed interest team, managing fixed interest institutional and retail portfolios as well as the Strategic Income Fund. Melanie started her career in 1997 at Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank. Initially, she focused on interest rate and liquidity management before she moved to the Treasury Sales and Structuring Desk where she gained significant experience in structuring and marketing fixed income, credit and securitised products to institutional investors.
Mike joined Laurium in 2018 in business development in the Laurium Cape Town office. Mike began his career at the newly established Ginsburg Asset Consulting in 2007 as an Investment Analyst. He grew with the business over 7 years to fulfil the role of consultant to several large South African institutional Clients. In 2014, he joined Coronation as a Senior Client Associate within the Institutional Business Development team. In 2017 he took up the role of Business Development Fund Manager at Granate Asset Management. He was responsible for the growth and client servicing of the business. He holds a Business Science Honours degree in Finance.
Mike joined Laurium Capital in December 2020 as a resource analyst. Before this, he was a founding member of Tantalum Capital where he was Head of Research. He was primarily responsible for all resources exposure and was a portfolio manager on the equity side. From 1998 to 2005, Mike was at Coronation Fund Managers. Mike's analyst responsibilities included the large cap industrial and resources shares. He also co-managed the Coronation Industrial Fund for two years and thereafter the Coronation Resources Fund for two years. Mike also managed some of Coronation's segregated institutional conservative/balanced portfolios. Mike started his career in 1995 at Deutsche Bank in London where he worked on the European Money Market/Repo desk.

Before starting Laurium Capital in 2008, Murray was CEO of Deutsche Bank South Africa for 3 years. During his 9 years prior to his role as CEO, Murray held various positions at Deutsche SA, including: Head of Global Markets (Debt and Equity) and Head of Research. During his tenure, Deutsche Bank held top ratings across all areas. Prior to Deutsche Bank, Murray was a Partner and industrial analyst with Ivor Jones Roy and Co. Murray holds a CA(SA) and CFA.
Nico joined Laurium Capital Retail in 2023 in business development in Johannesburg. Nico began his career at Momentum Metropolitan Holdings in April 2018 as a Business Consultant, where he gained great knowledge of the insurance and investment industry. In 2021 Nico moved to a Specialist Investment Consultant role. Nico holds a BCom Strategic Management degree as well as a Post-Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.
Paul joined Laurium Capital in February 2009, prior this he was at Ralk Capital, a Johannesburg-based hedge fund. He also worked at Merrill Lynch in London and Citibank Dubai. Paul has over 20 years of capital market experience and is currently the co-Portfolio Manager of the Laurium Limpopo Fund and the Laurium Africa Bond USD fund.Paul holds a B.Sc and a MBA.
Portia joined Laurium Capital in October 2019 and is an Operations Analyst to the investment team. Prior to joining the firm Portia was at Deutsche Bank for 5 years as a Senior Associate in the Global Prime Finance - Prime Broking Client Service.
Rob joined Laurium Capital in December 2020 as a portfolio manager. Prior to this he was a founding member of Tantalum Capital where he was CIO. He was the portfolio manager for the equity and multi-asset portfolios under both long only and hedge fund mandates. From 1997 to 2005 Rob was at Coronation Fund Managers. Initially, he was co-manager and then manager of the Coronation Consumer Growth Fund. He spent eighteen months in the Dublin and London offices of CFM, analysing European equities and managing the Coronation European Growth Fund. After his return to the Cape Town office in 2001 he was appointed as Head of Research, managed Coronation's segregated institutional balanced portfolios and was direct portfolio manager for institutional equity mandates. Rob started his career in 1994 at Allan Gray as a quantitative and fundamental equity analyst.
Shwebi joined Laurium Capital in August 2021 as a Fixed Income Analyst. Prior to joining Laurium Capital, she served as an analyst at Cadiz Asset Management specialising in fixed interest markets. Shwebi holds an Information System qualification.
Sizipiwe joined Laurium Capital in November 2020 on our internship program. She completed her Chartered Accountancy (South Africa) articles at KPMG within the financial services audit division with primary focus on banking and real estate industries. She also served as a member of the Financial Engineering Group, a centre of excellence for banking, financial instrument valuation, hedge accounting and treasury risk management at KPMG. After completing her articles, she completed a three-month secondment program with Makosi Consulting in New York City, where she serviced the audits of asset managers in the real estate market. Sizipwe holds a BCom.
Tankiso joined Laurium Capital in September 2020 as an Operations Analyst to the investment team. She started her career at Stanlib in 2017, moving to Deutsche Bank the same year on the young talent program working in debt operations and then into the Trade support team for the Equities Business. Tankiso holds a BCom Finance degree.
Tinashe joined Laurium Capital on the internship program in January 2016. He completed his articles with Deloitte Johannesburg's Financial Institutions services Team in December 2015, where he serviced clients in the banking, private equity and insurance industries. Tinashe holds a CA(SA) and CFA.
Uzair joined Laurium Capital in January 2023. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. Uzair also holds an Honours degree in Taxation from the University of Cape Town and is a CFA candidate.

Victoria joined Laurium Capital in August 2008 as office manager. Before joining she was in the marketing department with Peresys for almost 5 years. Victoria holds an IMM.
Vincent joined Laurium Capital in February 2022 as an Operations Analyst to the investment team. Vincent has more than a decade's experience in the stock-broking environment. He began his career in the IT environment at EOH & Imara S.P Reid and then moved onto offshore settlements where he was the team leader of the offshore settlements team at Momentum Securities. He is currently pursuing a BSc Computer Science degree at UNISA.
Yaameen joined Laurium Capital in February 2023. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town as well as a Master's in Commerce, specialising in Risk Management of Financial Markets from UCT. Before joining Laurium he worked for a year at Citibank on the FX Corporate Sales desk, servicing clients across various sectors."

Zayaan joined Laurium in January 2023. She worked for eight years prior to this, at Old Mutual as the lead tax advisor to the Wealth and Investment entities within the group. Zayaan has completed an Executive Masters in Business Administration degree, a Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Taxation degree and is a qualified chartered accountant (CA (SA)).
