Negotiator for the DOE's first international Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) between ORNL, Ogden Environmental and Energy Services, and Germany was negotiated with the assistance of Dr. Dole. A technology that uses microorganisms to remove uranium and other toxic heavy metals from waste streams and groundwater is the goal of a CRADA between Lockheed Martin Energy Systems and Ogden of Fairfax, Virginia. This is the first international cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) involving a national laboratory. After the technology is developed at ORNL, Ogden will demonstrate its use in the remediation of contaminated water in flooded uranium mines in eastern Germany.
