Dr. Alison Rhoades

An associate of Midlothian Animal Clinic since 1998, Dr. Rhoades was born in Michigan but grew up in Northern Virginia with her parents, her sister, and a house full of dogs. In 1993, she graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Hollins College with a B.A. in Biology and a double minor in Chemistry and History. Dr. Rhoades then attended VA/MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1997 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. (GO HOKIES!!) She practiced in a mixed animal practice in North Carolina for a year before joining MAC. In addition to internal medicine, Dr. Rhoades has a special interest in Oncology. Dr. Rhoades lives with her daughter, Madeline, and Vivi, the Wonder Poodle. She enjoys playing soccer, swimming, horseback riding, traveling, and baking in her spare time. Professionally, she is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Central Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, Richmond Academy American Association of Feline Practitioners, and the American Animal Hospital Association.

Dr. Caroline Moon

Dr. Caroline Moon earned her B.S. in biology at Virginia Tech and graduated from Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. While in veterinary school, she had a strong interest in disease processes and the human-animal bond, which led her to research opportunities at Cornell University and the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Moon's professional interests include preventative medicine, dentistry, internal medicine, and improving the human-animal bond. She was raised in the Chesterfield area, and loved all animals from an early age. When she is not working, Dr. Moon enjoys traveling, finding new places to eat, and trying new activities (recently considering pickleball). She is currently looking to adopt a canine companion, and has a soft spot for Pembroke Welsh Corgis.

Dr. Shelly Whitehurst

Dr. Shelly Whitehurst (Dr. Shelly) joined the Midlothian Animal Clinic after spending the last 11 years as a small animal general and emergency veterinarian in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Dr. Whitehurst grew up in Mechanicsville and attended the College of William and Mary where she earned a B.S. in Biology. From there, she moved to Blacksburg, where she worked at the Large Animal Teaching Hospital, then graduated as a veterinarian in 2007 from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. After Graduation, she spent two years fulfilling her James Herriot dream of taking care of all creatures great and small before coming full circle back to being a strictly small animal veterinarian. Dr. Whitehurst's biggest accomplishments have been becoming a mother of wonderful twins, completing two Ironman triathlons, and running her first ultramarathon through Zion National State Park. She lives in Midlothian, with her husband Jason, twins Brooke and Patrick, and rescue dog Jack. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, cycling, running, cooking, and camping with her family. Professionally, her interests include ultrasonography, surgery, internal medicine, and senior pet care.

Dr. Tim Withers

Dr. Withers is a native of Richmond, Virginia, and a 1996 graduate of the University of Virginia. (Go Hoos!) Dr. Withers graduated from VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. During his college years, Dr. Withers, who is also an Eagle Scout, earned numerous awards, including being voted the "Most Outstanding Senior Veterinary Student" by his professors and the "Kay Daugherty Spirit Award," as voted by his classmates. After graduation, Dr. Withers worked as an associate veterinarian at a mixed animal practice in Pennsylvania. He returned to Virginia and MAC in 2005. In addition to general veterinary medicine, he has special interests in dentistry, surgery, and ultrasound. Professionally, he is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Virginia Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Dental Society, Richmond Academy, and the American Animal Hospital Association. In 2011 the VVMA presented a plaque to Dr. Withers in recognition of his dedication and service to the Mentor Program for Veterinary students at the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Withers and his wife, Angela, share their home with their children, Isaiah and Isabella, their dog Sadie and their kitty, S'mores. In his spare time, Dr. Withers enjoys cooking, gardening, music, singing, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family.
