Adam Tracey

Adam practices in all areas of intellectual property law with a special focus on providing IP services to Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises ("SMEs") and startup clients. He enjoys the daily challenge of not knowing what industry or technology he will be dealing with next and takes a particular interest in helping innovative, ambitious clients take their ideas from that initial spark to a viable business. His practice includes a client base across a wide variety of industries (which can range from manufacturing to growing cannabis, food services to cryptocurrency) and he provides advice and strategy with respect to all manners of issues relating to patent, trademark, industrial design and copyright law. His clients range from individual inventors to large Canadian corporations, and he also has extensive experience managing international IP portfolios for foreign and Canadian entities. On the trademark side, Adam has devised branding strategies for clients in numerous industries and assists with all aspects of the trademark process from initial brand selection and clearance to rights acquisition and enforcement matters when required. On the patent side, Adam has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patents in a wide variety of technologies in jurisdictions around the world. Adam also assists his clients with various contractual and licensing issues that arise in the course of running an innovative business, and has both assisted and advised a number of clients during their acquisition by leading foreign multinationals. Adele J. Finlayson

Adele joined the firm in 2000 and has been practicing intellectual property law, specializing in trade-marks and copyright, since 1981. Adele is able to provide legal services in both official languages and has written and spoken frequently on intellectual property topics. Adele is a member of the Publications Subcommittee of the International Trade-mark Association (INTA) and is a former member of the Trade-mark Agent Examination Committee. Qualifications MA (French Language and Literature) LL.B. Adele is an enthusiastic chorister (alto section) with several choirs. She has been known to hum (on key) while working. Adele is also a lover of nature and a shoe manufacturer's dream client, having hiked over 2500 kilometers on the trails of Canada's national parks.

Eduardo Fonseca

Eduardo began his IP career in 1996 as a member of the worldwide team responsible for protection of the intellectual property development, portfolio management and technology transfer, of the Rhône-Poulenc Group in São Paulo, Brazil. Eduardo has considerable patent expertise in the fields of engineering production, processes, and applications related to biochemistry, food science, chemical and technological processes. Eduardo is the main liaison with Latin America, spending part of the year in that region bringing the latest updates, sharing his experience and providing a lot of support to his colleagues. His Latin American heritage and work experience allows him to bring a unique perspective to clients interested in expanding their IP rights into North America. He is a Fellow of the Brazilian Intellectual Property Association and a Fellow of the Brazilian Engineering and Architecture Council and is currently the Canadian Delegate at the Inter-American Intellectual Property Association. Gary has been the Canadian editor of the Intellectual Property Law Journal and has been actively involved on a number of IPIC committees including the Joint Liason Committee - Patents and the Patent Legislation Committee.
