Aaron Stevens

With nearly 30 years of public accounting and finance experience, Aaron works exclusively with Maner Costerisan's government and nonprofit clients. A principal and recent addition to the firm's Board of Directors, he specializes in governmental and nonprofit financial statement auditing and consulting, conducting compliance audits for organizations receiving federal funding and subject to Uniform Guidance, and internal audits for District and Circuit courts. Aaron began his career in public accounting in 1994. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed treasurer and finance director for the City of St. Johns, serving two years in that capacity. After gaining valuable experience in the public sector, he returned to public accounting, where he has remained for more than two decades. Aaron joined Maner Costerisan in early 2019 in a merger with Stevens, Kirinovic & Tucker P.C. (SKT). Passionate about helping clients develop solutions to complex accounting and auditing issues, Aaron credits his success to hard work, determination and self-accountability. He wakes up daily committed to being the trusted advisor his clients rely on and have confidence in. Developing long-standing professional relationships with clients across local and state governments is one of his favorite parts of his job. A member of what one can only describe as an "accounting family," Aaron is one of 11 children. Three of them followed in the footsteps of their father, all becoming accountants. In his spare time, Aaron enjoys watching hockey, attending concerts and drinking craft beer. Born and raised in DeWitt, Michigan, he resides there with his wife, Carin. The pair have four children, Troy, Nathan, Brad and Rylie, and a chocolate lab, Koda. I believe the key factors that drive my success are hard work, determination, and self-accountability. My goal is to be the consultant or advisor that my clients rely on and have confidence in.

Abby Daugherty

Abby is a senior manager in Maner's Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department, where she provides tailored outsourced services that solve problems and make her clients' lives easier. After beginning her career at Maner in 2013, Abby left the firm to work for a large national insurance company. In this role, she gained four years of experience on the client side, learning first-hand their challenges, concerns and problems. Her time outside of public accounting helped to strengthen her skills and provided her with a unique ability to relate to and support her clients. Abby returned to Maner because of the flexible, family-oriented culture and the firm's ongoing commitment to community involvement and outreach (two things that are very important to her personally). A winner recipient of the MICPA Emerging Leaders award in 2017, Abby's goal is to share her experience and knowledge with her clients to help them be successful. Passionate about finding realistic and workable solutions that answer a client's problems, Abby enjoys working with numbers and supporting a variety of clients. Abby works mainly with nonprofits and is passionate about helping organizations that have a purpose and mission to better the world around them. A graduate of Michigan State University with a Master of Science in Accounting, Abby and her husband, Kyle, and two young kids, Charlotte and Jameson, reside in Okemos, Michigan. A dedicated and active mom, Abby loves to read and spend time helping her children grow into awesome human beings.

Adam Frost

Adam joined Maner Costerisan in 2019 as part of a merger with Stevens, Kirinovic & Tucker P.C. (SKT). In his role as a manager in the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department, Adam specializes in providing accounting and financial support to Maner's government clients. As a previous audit associate, Adam is able to use his knowledge when helping clients with audit preparation. Prior to joining Maner, Adam worked as an accountant at the Saginaw Children's Zoo. He also was a team lead at Home Depot to which he accredits his strong sense of teamwork and leadership. He aspires to become a leader within Maner's governmental team and is passionate about helping governments make smart financial decisions that benefit their constituents. Adam graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor of Professional Accountancy. He lives in Mason, Michigan, with his wife, Amanda, and their two dogs, Jasmine and Maggie. In his free time, Adam enjoys spending time with family and friends, bowling and disc golf.

Bill brings more than 22 years of experience specializing in government and nonprofit auditing and consulting to Maner Costerisan. A member of the firm's Board of Directors, Bill leads Maner's Government team and is a partner in the Audit department. Since joining Maner through a merger with Stevens, Kirinovic & Tucker P.C. (SKT) in early 2019, he's helped spearhead tremendous growth throughout the government division, always looking for innovative solutions to help municipalities and government entities achieve their goals. A strong presenter and quick study, Bill is committed to sharing his knowledge and insight on all things government audit and accounting with his clients and teammates. Bill consistently provides valuable contributions in the form of thought leadership articles on Maner's website and delivers engaging presentations at industry conferences and committees. Furthermore, he actively takes charge of keeping the entire government team well-informed about the constantly evolving requirements for government entities of various scales. Bill discovered his love for accounting after taking a single accounting class at Michigan State University. His passion for the profession continues to grow, as he's able to offer clients new solutions to complex problems. Accounting offers him the opportunity to work in a diverse and dynamic industry while helping clients improve their operations and meet their strategic objectives. In his free time, Bill enjoys active hobbies, including hockey, golf, and skiing. He and his wife, Michele, live in DeWitt, Michigan, with their two children, Will and Josalin, and their dog, Stanley Cup. Growing up, I was considered a leader due to the hard work and dedication I put into activities. Hard work set up a good foundation of what has driven my success. When I joined the parenthood rank, it emphasized never knowing what tomorrow can bring and always being 100% prepared for the next day. Brandy Mikula

Brandy is a principal in Maner Costerisan's Tax department and leads the firm's nonprofit tax practice. She has more than 20 years of expertise in providing consulting and tax planning services to nonprofits of all kinds, including charities, private foundations, trade and membership organizations, social clubs, social service organizations, and others. Never one to turn down a challenge, Brandy is an expert in guiding organizations through the complexities of gaining IRS tax-exempt status and helping them prevent losing their status once it's been received. In addition to her specialized focus on nonprofits, Brandy is also well-versed in supporting small and midsized business clients. By offering strategic planning guidance that aims to minimize taxes, she helps business owners navigate their daily issues and develop tax strategies that help them achieve their long-term goals. Brandy is a natural communicator and enjoys building strong relationships. Her ability to make her clients and colleagues immediately feel at ease, even when facing stressful situations, helps to make her a go-to resource across the firm. Brandy brings a positive attitude and sense of humor to each interaction she has at the firm. She loves to brainstorm with colleagues about complex tax issues and find solutions to tricky problems. Brendan Baker

Brendan joined Maner Costerisan in 2019 as an intern. He joined the firm full-time in 2020 and is a manager in the Audit department. In his role, Brendan provides assurance services to Maner's telecommunication, nonprofit and education clients. Inspired to enter the accounting industry in high school, Brendan is passionate about building relationships with clients and colleagues - many of whom he considers close friends. He's an active member of Maner's Employee Engagement Committee and helps manage logistics around the firm's basketball, volleyball, and kickball teams. Brendan graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. He lives in Grand Ledge, Michigan, with his wife, Emily, and their two dogs, Rory and Oakley. The best piece of advice I received was to take bits and pieces from different people you look up to, to build yourself professionally.

Clayton Stiffler

Clayton joined Maner Costerisan in 2014. His strong work ethic and passion for problem-solving helped him quickly move up the firm ranks. He was promoted to principal in 2024. Prior to joining Maner, Clayton worked at BS&A Software, gaining experience on their Financial Management support team. At Maner, Clayton provides accounting and outsourced expertise to a variety of clients, including small and midsized businesses, with a specialization in supporting Maner's cannabis and construction clients. He leads the firm's Construction team and is one of less than 2,000 professionals nationwide to receive the Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional designation. Clayton genuinely enjoys getting to know his clients and taking an active role in helping them grow their businesses. He credits his success at Maner to focusing first on the success of his clients. He lives by the mantra that their success leads to his. Clayton graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Science in Accounting. While in college, he was on the Dean's List for eight semesters. A traveler at heart, Clayton's visited all the lower 48 states and hopes to visit the last two in the next few years. A resident of East Lansing, Michigan, Clayton enjoys attending Michigan State athletic events with friends.

Courtney Bean

Courtney is a senior manager in Maner's Audit department, joining the firm as part of a merger with McCartney & Company in 2014. With nearly a decade of experience in the industry, she's found her passion in supporting the firm's affordable housing and nonprofit clients. An expert in completing logic puzzles, Courtney knew she wanted to be an accountant after taking one accounting class in high school. She's continued to grow throughout her career at Maner, helping clients solve their own complex puzzles and problems. Courtney is an active member of Maner's Affordable Housing and Nonprofit Committees and enjoys working with clients in both practice areas. Courtney graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration in Value-Driven Organization. She lives in Dewitt, Michigan, with her husband, Eathan, their son, Oliver, and two dogs, Ren and Chester. In her free time, Courtney enjoys reading, gardening, completing jigsaw puzzles and spending time with family. On the first day I started at Maner, I was told the two most important things in our career is to do the right thing and to be honest with our clients. It may not be the easiest thing to do and sometimes we must have some difficult conversations, but I'm grateful to be part of a company that operates on a strong sense of integrity.

Dave Nielsen

Dave brings 15 years of experience to Maner's Audit department. Named to the principal group in 2019, he manages audit engagements for various clients in the manufacturing, agriculture, nonprofit and education industries. Additionally, he serves as the firm's Director of Quality Control and conducts peer reviews of other CPA firms. Actively involved in Maner's Small and Midsize Business team, Dave also writes thought leadership articles and serves as a resource to staff on a variety of audit and peer review issues. Passionate about helping staff grow in their roles and abilities, Dave is a member of the firm's Career Development Committee and has played a critical role in crafting a framework to help guide the professional development of Maner's staff. Prior to joining Maner, Dave interned at BDO, where he gathered valuable experience in the firm's internal accounting department. Dave attributes "back-date planning" as the key to his success at Maner, always starting from the deadline of a project to build realistic and actionable plans to meet goals and deadlines. He credits Maner's former managing partner, Bruce Dunn, as a big professional influence who helped him hone his planning skills. A natural problem-solver, Dave is driven to help clients and colleagues alike solve problems. Seeing their reaction when the problem is resolved, or the issue is identified is what continues to drive him to learn and grow. A fan of golf and spending time at his cottage on Houghton Lake, Dave is a self-taught guitarist. He and his wife, Leslie, both CPAs, met as young staffers at Maner Costerisan. The pair resides in Dewitt, Michigan, with their son (Sam), daughter (Mackenzie), and two cats, Jack and Josie.

David Hayes

In 2022, David joined Maner Costerisan's Technology department as the Director of Internal IT. A proven and predictive Information Technology executive, David is an effective leader and communicator with over 20 years of experience. He leads the firm's internal IT function and is responsible for establishing IT vision and strategy that aligns with corporate strategy and goals. David's love of analytic processing and solutioning is what drove him to enter the IT industry after his military service. He's passionate about transforming business by utilizing lean principles and interacting with internal and external customers to define and execute solutions to business problems. David has the unique ability to simplify complex processes and transition ideas into leading-edge emerging technology and scalable systems. A change management cultivator and developer of people, he's driven to cultivate digital transformation and is talented in software and hardware solutions. Experienced in building and managing self-sustaining, scalable infrastructures, support, and organizational and technical teams, David's leadership philosophy and work ethic was developed from Active-Duty military service both domestically and abroad. A graduate of Southern New Hampshire University and MIT Executive Management, David possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Operations and Project Management, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics. In 2021, David was nominated for CIO of the Year. He was a finalist of four and finished second. David lives in Milford, Michigan. In his free time, David enjoys open water diving, golfing, mentoring and developing younger IT folks and volunteering for various veterans' organizations.

Dennis Theis

Dennis is a principal in the Audit and Accounting and Outsourced Solutions departments. He focuses his practice on providing financial statement related services to clients throughout various industries including manufacturing and distribution, nonprofit organizations, and governmental and retail entities. Providing clients with opportunities for improvement is a key goal in each relationship. Beyond his client service responsibilities, Dennis plays numerous other roles at Maner Costerisan and is an integral part of the firm's success and execution; for example, he serves as director of the small and midsize businesses niche. Dennis is a member of Maner Costerisan's Marketing Committee and Education Services Group, and is the leader of the Manufacturing and Distribution Solutions group. He also assists clients in utilizing the additional resources of the BDO Business Resource Network (BRN), which is designed to improve performance by reducing costs and improving technology and operational efficiencies. Dennis was inspired to go into the accounting field because he recognized that accounting gave a broad perspective on many different facets of business. Dennis attributes his success to always listening to and anticipating client needs, the vast resources of Maner Costerisan and a strong work ethic. Dennis was raised on a dairy farm in Central Michigan, the youngest of 11 children. He currently resides in Lansing with his wife, Luann, and their three daughters. In his free time, Dennis can usually be found outdoors where he enjoys boating, kayaking and fishing with his family at his cottage. He also likes to run, and play catch and lawn games with his family. I get excited about helping others reach their potential. Using what I know to produce the best result with our team for our clients is what is most rewarding to me. Heather Farmer

Heather joined Maner Costerisan in 2022 as a government finance specialist in the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department. She brings six years of specialized experience in governmental accounting to the firm. Heather works closely with Maner's government clients, providing accounting and consulting support to municipalities across the state. Prior to joining Maner, she served as the deputy finance director and deputy treasurer for the City of Auburn Hills. In addition to Heather's daily responsibilities providing accounting guidance and support to the firm's government clients, Heather writes thought articles and recently started studying for the Certified Government Financial Manager® exam. She is an active member of the Michigan Government Finance Officers Association and serves on its Membership and Mentoring Committee and the Professional Development Committee. Heather was awarded Oakland County's Elite 40 Under 40 in 2020. Heather is passionate about providing the best service to her clients and does that by using her governmental knowledge to help solve problems and teach others. She enjoys the fast-paced environment at Maner, looking to thrive on any project or solve any problem that arises. A Walsh College graduate with a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Finance, Heather lives in Orion Township, Michigan, with her fiancé, Nate, and their dog Stanley. Jen Danko

Jen joined Maner Costerisan in January 2023 as a principal in the Tax department. With more than 12 years of specialized skills and experience, Jen provides estate, trust, and tax consulting services to high net worth individuals and business owners. Jen works closely with the firm's wealth management division, Maner Wealth, to provide high net worth individuals of all ages with a holistic approach to financial and tax planning. She's driven to help her clients achieve their personal and wealth transfer goals while minimizing tax consequences by creating synergies between their tax and investment advisors. Jen joined Maner from a top-20 national tax and consulting firm, where she oversaw its East Lansing-based trust and estate practice. She was inspired to pursue a career in the industry by her father, an accountant who was her hero growing up. It brings her joy to play a role in helping her clients achieve their personal goals. An active member of the Greater Lansing Estate Planning Council (GLEPC), Jen served as the president of the board from 2022-2023. A graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Jen lives in East Lansing, Michigan, with her husband, Matt, and their two children, Ryan and Brooke. Outside of the office, she enjoys vacationing at Disney, spending time with her kids and running. I live my life with a ‘work hard, play hard' approach.

Jessica Cheeseman

Jessica is a manager in Maner Costerisan's Accounting department. She started with Maner as an intern in January 2016 and was hired full-time shortly after. In 2023, Jessica was promoted to a manager role. As part of her responsibilities, Jessica provides outsourced controllership services for a variety of clients. Her daily tasks include month-end journal entries, bank reconciliations, financial statements, tax and audit preparation and she supports Sage Intacct software implementations. In addition, she is a member of the Employee Engagement Committee. Prior to joining Maner, Jessica worked in the Asset Management department at Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) and at a factory building car parts. In high school, she took an accounting class and caught on very quickly. She liked the challenge and problem-solving involved in the subject. The opportunity to grow and take on new challenges with a supportive firm is what keeps her Maner. Jessica graduated from Olivet College with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Davenport University with a Master of Accounting. She resides in Wyoming, Michigan, with her Australian shepherd, Kif. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her dog, camping, and art, specifically stained glass. Some of the personal traits that I think drive my success are my resilience and how candid I am. I am not afraid to admit when I don't know something, but I will do whatever I can to find a solution to a problem.

Jessica Droste

Jessica joined Maner Costerisan in 2018 and is a manager in the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department. She is responsible for providing traditional accounting and bookkeeping services to the firm's clients. She also offers expert training to clients going through transitionary periods. In addition to her work in accounting, Jessica also is a member of the firm's Consulting team, where she focuses on building out data analytics offerings. Prior to joining the firm, Jessica assisted her father with bookkeeping for his small business. She was also a graduate assistant at Michigan State University while working on her master's in accounting. Jessica chose to enter this industry because of the impact she can make on others and the opportunity for constant learning - no day is ever the same. She enjoys working with Maner's smaller business clients because she can see the true difference she makes in people's lives. Jessica lives in Westphalia, Michigan, with her husband, Tanner. In her free time, she enjoys playing and watching sports, hosting friends and family, bike riding, and cooking and baking.

Joe DeLuca

Joe joined Maner Costerisan's Business Solutions and Technology department in September 2004. He is responsible for crafting and executing technology transformation strategies for clients, including software selection and implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance, and hardware and software configuration. Additionally, Joe leads the firm's training and virtual CIO services division, serving as a remote CIO for numerous clients. From an early age, Joe was a "tinkerer," taking apart household appliances and putting them back together, all while learning how they worked. His love for technology and behind-the-scenes purview propelled him into Information Technology and the infrastructure world. Joe's favorite part of his job is that he very rarely encounters the same exact issue twice. Each unique vertical, organization, and issue offers its own challenges, and he enjoys providing his skillset to pair an issue with a resolution. Calm and collected under pressure, one of Joe's proudest professional accomplishments was having the foresight of the impending pandemic to retool the firm's infrastructure to ensure that the entire firm was able to work fully remotely on Day 0. He collaborated closely with teammates to keep the firm moving and supported clients with their own pandemic-related IT challenges. In his free time, Joe enjoys reading, playing with his kids, and taking things apart. He enjoys watching sports, true crime, and anything on the Science or Discovery channels. He resides in East Lansing, Michigan, with his wife, Lori, their three kids, Jake, Sophia, Liam, and their dog, Max. Kelly Decker

Kelly joined Maner Costerisan in 2018 and is a manager in the Accounting & Outsourced Solutions department. She works primarily with the firm's nonprofit clients, providing a variety of foundational accounting-related services, including monthly and quarterly financial statements, monthly grant reports and payroll. She also works on special projects, helping clients improve their current processes, complete their budgets, monitor grant spending and manage grantees. In addition to her expertise on the accounting side, she's also a Certified Sage Intacct Implementation Specialist, providing expert software insight and guidance to the firm's Intacct clients. Committed to helping her clients and passionate about improving and growing as a professional, Kelly recently obtained an AICPA Not-for-Profit Certification. Kelly graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a double major in Accounting and Finance. She lives in Swartz Creek, Michigan, with her husband, John, and their dog, Remmy. Kim Halfmann

She joined Maner Costerisan in 2012 and brought 10 years of prior finance and accounting experience to the firm. Passionate about taking on out-of-the-box projects and continuous learning, Kim is certified in Sage Intacct Implementations and has a nonprofit certification with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Every day for her is a new adventure for Kim, and she loves the variety her job offers. A valued member of the Accounting and Outsourced team, Kim is also very active around the firm. She served on the Employee Engagement Committee for several years and continues to be actively involved in supporting her teammates and colleagues as a mentor. Kim graduated from Baker College with a bachelor's degree in business administration. With over 20 years of experience, Lyndsey has expertise in manufacturing, where she served as a controller for 12 years, and in school and government, where she spent 9 years as a finance director. Passionate about helping people and excelling in math, Lyndsey is confident about her career path. In 2018, she was awarded the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) Emerging Leader and in 2019 was awarded ASBO Emerging Leader Mentor. A University of Nebraska - Lincoln graduate, Lyndsey has a Business Administration degree with an accounting emphasis. She lives in Grand Haven, Michigan, with her husband and three children. Marianna Colpean

Upon leaving Maner in 2018, Marianna moved to Grand Rapids to work as a controller at Baudville Brands, where she oversaw four private for-profit companies. In 2022, she returned to Maner as a manager in the Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department. At Maner, Marianna is responsible for providing accounting support and services to for-profit, governmental and nonprofit clients. She assists with monthly financial accounting, audit preparation and identifying business improvements. A passionate problem-solver, Marianna enjoys this industry because she can help clients resolve complex accounting issues and provide solutions for efficiency improvements. A graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, Marianna lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with her dog, Archie. Outside of the office, she enjoys rock hunting, tumbling rocks, traveling to the UP and hiking with her dog. The best piece of advice I've gotten is that short-term gains lead to long-term pains. I've always strived to do the right thing in my work life and in my personal life, even if it is more difficult/time-consuming to do so. Mike is responsible for product implementation, ongoing client support, and providing sales demonstrations. He is known for his ability to put clients at ease with his friendly and helpful guidance. Prior to joining Maner, Mike spent most of his career in healthcare finance and in the physician practice consulting arena. He created a nursing productivity management tool used by many hospitals to measure and control nursing costs. From his valuable experience, Mike understands the importance accounting functions have in running a successful business. As someone who enjoys a challenge and embraces change, Mike helps clients streamline services and find software solutions that best fit their needs. He enjoys aiding clients through teaching and training on how to gain more from their Sage Intacct system. He strongly believes successful relationships are built on mutual respect and trust. Mike earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Baker College of Owosso after serving in the U.S. Air Force. Mike and his wife, Michelle, live in Muskegon, Michigan. In his free time, Mike enjoys reading historical books, playing tennis, and bicycling. Fun fact, Mike's love for numbers runs in his family - his son Gabe works in Maner's Audit department.

Steven joined the Maner Wealth team in January 2021. In his role as a wealth advisor, Steven works closely with Maner Wealth clients to create individual and highly customized financial plans that help them reach their unique goals. He splits his time working as a lead advisor to several clients and servicing the day-to-day needs of existing clients. Hard-working and determined, Steven passed his Series 65 exam and, most recently, the Certified Financial Planner exam and obtained his license in 2023. With a desire to help people in an area that is often seen as stressful and confusing, Steven enjoys connecting with clients and implementing financial plans that will have an impact on their lives and families. Toni has worked for Maner Costerisan for 25 years and brings nearly 30 years of experience to the firm. Prior to joining Maner, she served as an accountant for a national restaurant chain franchisee. She is now a manager and team leader in Maner's Accounting and Outsourced Solutions department, providing expert outsourced accounting and payroll support to clients. Toni also specializes in offering payroll and accounting-related support to clients on Quickbooks, Sage 50, Business Central and Accounting CS. Toni decided to enter the accounting industry because she always liked working with numbers and working on puzzles. She felt accounting was a natural fit for her. She enjoys providing solutions to a wide variety of clients and helping give them peace of mind wherever she is able. She has met so many interesting people. She stays in this industry and at Maner because of the opportunities available and the people. She loves being a part of such a talented team with leadership that enables her to grow and excel. Toni grew up in Dewitt, Michigan. She now lives in East Lansing, Michigan, with her husband, Russell. She loves to cook, travel and sci-fi movies. He is now a senior manager in the firm's Audit department, where he specializes in providing audit and advisory services to Maner's governmental clients, including municipalities and school districts. An active member of the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants' Government Accounting and Auditing Expert panel, Tyler is committed to keeping up-to-date on the latest compliance and regulatory changes impacting his clients. In addition, he serves as a regular presenter of Maner's education and government webinars, sharing his knowledge with clients and others throughout the industry. Tyler's love for accounting began while working at the school store in high school and his enthusiasm for numbers quickly grew into a career. He prides himself in providing excellent service and support to his clients and is driven to help them make their lives easier. A graduate of Spring Arbor University, Tyler has a bachelor's degree in Accounting. A native of Grand Ledge, Michigan, he lives in his childhood home with his wife, Kayleigh, their son, Caden, and two dogs, Bella and Trigger.
