James J. Madden

James J. Madden, Esquire, Of Counsel, was the Founding Partner of the firm. Mr. Madden has been admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey since 1967. He received his B.A. from LaSalle College in 1961 and his J. D. from Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1967. From 1962 to 1964 he served with the First Armored Division as a First Lieutenant in Fort Hood, Texas. Mr. Madden served a judicial clerkship with the Honorable R. Cooper Brown and the Honorable Anthony C. Mitchell of the New Jersey Superior Court from August 1967 to July 1968. Mr. Madden has been engaged in the area of civil litigation primarily in the defense of all types of commercial claims. In addition, he has handled bankruptcy matters, title litigation, land use matters and has been, for many years, counsel to Healthcare Quality Strategies, Inc., a federally funded Medicare/Medicaid quality review organization. John-Paul Madden, Esquire, is President of the firm. Mr. Madden is a graduate of Princeton University (B.A. 1992) and the Temple University School of Law (J.D. 1998 cum laude) where he was a member of the Temple Law Review. Mr. Madden has been admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1998. He also is admitted to practice in the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Michael P. Madden

Michael P. Madden, Esquire, Of Counsel, was an original Partner of Madden & Madden. Mr. Madden is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (B.A. 1968) and Rutgers University School of Law (J. D. 1972). He is a member of the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Madden is the former prosecutor for the Borough of Collingswood and presently is the Solicitor for the Borough of Collingswood Planning Board. In addition, he served as the Municipal Court Judge for the Borough of Lindenwold from 1979 to 1981 and the Borough of Pine Valley from 1979 to 1981. He is a current member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and a member of the Civil Trial Bar Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He also is a member of the Camden County Bar Association and Burlington County Bar Association. Mr. Madden is a former member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, District IV, Ethics Committee. He was formerly Chairman of the Civil Trial Bar Section and a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey Committee on the Rules of Evidence, on which he served from 2010-2014. He also has appeared before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights. Mr. Madden is a Rule 1:40 Qualified Mediator and an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at Rutgers University School of Law - Camden. The Honorable Thomas M. Madden

The Honorable Thomas M. Madden, the father of Madden & Madden's founders, James J. Madden, Esquire and Michael P. Madden, Esquire, was appointed to the federal bench by President Harry S. Truman on October 9, 1945. Judge Madden presided over a number of deportation hearings, including that of a Portuguese stowaway, whom he held up as a model for all Americans, because of his devotion to becoming a citizen of the United States, as well as his commitment to his family back in Portugal. Judge Madden also once scolded a defendant for failing to disclose his Communist Party membership. Judge Madden claimed he wished he could have punished the defendant more severely for his acts of disloyalty to the United States. Judge Madden's portrait hangs above the fireplace in the firm's main conference room, and the Judge's gavel sits upon the mantel. Judge Madden's legacy serves as a reminder of the justice, integrity and service that form Madden & Madden's core values.
