James J. Madden, Esquire, Of Counsel, was the Founding Partner of the firm. Mr. Madden has been admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey since 1967. He received his B.A. from LaSalle College in 1961 and his J. D. from Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1967. From 1962 to 1964 he served with the First Armored Division as a First Lieutenant in Fort Hood, Texas. Mr. Madden served a judicial clerkship with the Honorable R. Cooper Brown and the Honorable Anthony C. Mitchell of the New Jersey Superior Court from August 1967 to July 1968.
Mr. Madden has been engaged in the area of civil litigation primarily in the defense of all types of commercial claims. In addition, he has handled bankruptcy matters, title litigation, land use matters and has been, for many years, counsel to Healthcare Quality Strategies, Inc., a federally funded Medicare/Medicaid quality review organization.
Mr. Madden lives in Merchantville, New Jersey with his wife, Agnes.

John-Paul Madden, Esquire, is President of the firm. Mr. Madden is a graduate of Princeton University (B.A. 1992) and the Temple University School of Law (J.D. 1998 cum laude) where he was a member of the Temple Law Review. Mr. Madden has been admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1998. He also is admitted to practice in the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Courts for the District of New Jersey and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Madden has had a diverse practice. He has extensive experience in the area of civil defense litigation in both the trial and appellate levels, including areas such as consumer fraud, professional negligence, employment, civil rights, commercial, insurance and construction. Mr. Madden also has experience with commercial real estate litigation, real estate development, commercial and residential real estate transactional matters and commercial lending.
Mr. Madden resides in Haddon Heights, New Jersey with his wife and children where he is active in the youth sports and neighborhood organizations.

Mark Strasle is an Associate with the firm. He is a graduate of The George Washington University (B.A., International Affairs, 2010) and Rutgers School of Law - Camden (J.D. 2014). Mr. Strasle is admitted to the Bar in the State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Michael P. Madden, Esquire, Of Counsel, was an original Partner of Madden & Madden. Mr. Madden is a graduate of the College of William and Mary (B.A. 1968) and Rutgers University School of Law (J. D. 1972). He is a member of the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Madden is the former prosecutor for the Borough of Collingswood and presently is the Solicitor for the Borough of Collingswood Planning Board. In addition, he served as the Municipal Court Judge for the Borough of Lindenwold from 1979 to 1981 and the Borough of Pine Valley from 1979 to 1981. He is a current member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and a member of the Civil Trial Bar Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He also is a member of the Camden County Bar Association and Burlington County Bar Association. Mr. Madden is a former member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey, District IV, Ethics Committee. He was formerly Chairman of the Civil Trial Bar Section and a member of the Supreme Court of New Jersey Committee on the Rules of Evidence, on which he served from 2010-2014. He also has appeared before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights. Mr. Madden is a Rule 1:40 Qualified Mediator and an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at Rutgers University School of Law - Camden.
Throughout his legal career, Mr. Madden has been engaged primarily in the area of civil litigation in the defense of all types of claims. He has extensive experience in defense of insurance coverage issues, including the defense of broker's errors and omissions claims, as well as the defense of employment discrimination claims including sexual harassment, age discrimination, wrongful discharge, ERISA litigation, the defense of governmental entities/employees in Civil Rights and Section 1983 claims including litigation under the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, New Jersey Title 18A (educational law), claims involving the Federal Family Medical Leave Act and the New Jersey Family Medical Leave Act. Mr. Madden has appeared before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit on at least five (5) occasions, the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division on numerous occasions and the Commissioner of Education for the State of New Jersey.
Mr. Madden previously has been recognized as a Super Lawyer by New Jersey monthly magazine and also has been rated AV Preeminent® by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory for many years. He was the recipient of the 2011 Professional Lawyer of the Year Award issued by the Camden County Bar Association's New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law. In 2014, along with the Honorable Helen E. Hoens, former New Jersey Supreme Court Justice, the Civil Trial Bar Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association awarded Mr. Madden with the James J. McLaughlin Award. The McLaughlin Award is given annually to an attorney and/or judge recognized for demonstrating civility, legal competence and professionalism in the practice of civil trial law.

Mr. Madden is a Partner with the firm concentrating in personal injury litigation, including motor vehicle accidents, tractor trailer accidents, slip and falls, premises liability, dog bite accidents and spinal cord injuries. Mr. Madden has extensive experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in all aspects of personal injury litigation. Mr. Madden represents both individual and corporate clients at both the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Madden's practice also encompasses the defense of governmental entities in all areas of Title 59 and employment related litigation in both state and federal courts, including claims of negligence, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblowing, breach of contract, and wrongful termination.

Ms. Philipps is a Partner with the firm. She is a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy, The College of New Jersey (B.S., with honors) and Rutgers School of Law - Camden (J.D., with honors). Ms. Philipps is admitted to the Bar in the State of New Jersey, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Ms. Philipps is a member of the Camden County Bar Association, the Burlington County Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association. The Honorable Thomas M. Madden, the father of Madden & Madden's founders, James J. Madden, Esquire and Michael P. Madden, Esquire, was appointed to the federal bench by President Harry S. Truman on October 9, 1945. Judge Madden presided over a number of deportation hearings, including that of a Portuguese stowaway, whom he held up as a model for all Americans, because of his devotion to becoming a citizen of the United States, as well as his commitment to his family back in Portugal. Judge Madden also once scolded a defendant for failing to disclose his Communist Party membership. Judge Madden claimed he wished he could have punished the defendant more severely for his acts of disloyalty to the United States.
Judge Madden's portrait hangs above the fireplace in the firm's main conference room, and the Judge's gavel sits upon the mantel. Judge Madden's legacy serves as a reminder of the justice, integrity and service that form Madden & Madden's core values.

Timothy Bieg is a Partner with the firm. Mr. Bieg graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania in 2001, with a bachelor's degree in Business and Economics and earned his law degree in 2005 from the Rutgers School of Law, Camden. He has been admitted to the Bars of the State of New Jersey and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 2005, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey since 2006, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit since 2007.
