Manasquan Bank's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Cathy Franzoni was responsible for maintaining the bank's financial stability as the former CFO, but her role has evolved into a position that is much more than that. When she accepted her self-described "dream job" in 2004, Franzoni was excited about being able to touch each and every department in the bank. "My job is to keep the bank safe, financially sound and viable moving forward," she says. "In order to do that, I need to have involvement in every department." Her strategy is apparently working. The bank's financial benchmarks are stellar. "We are among the top 10% of banks in the country in terms of asset size and the FDIC would categorize us as well capitalized," she reports. Franzoni also serves on the board of the newly formed Manasquan Bank Charitable Foundation. The Foundation has awarded upwards of $600,000 in grants. "The donations represent a true cross-section of our community," she says, noting that contributions have been given to senior and youth organizations, sports leagues, history preservation societies, the arts, and health services. "We're especially proud of being able to do this with our own assets. It is truly giving back to our communities." Franzoni likes to call Manasquan Bank's community commitment "The 6 Degrees of Manasquan Bank". "We are part of our communities, whether participating at an event, hosting an event or making a donation," she says. "We strive to be connected everywhere, at some level or another." Franzoni points to a different area of community support the bank is involved in. They are directly soliciting the municipalities in and around their branches. "Every town has significant banking requirements. The amount of cash collected and dispersed is mind-boggling. Large banks can handle the high level of transactions, but they are not equipped to provide the level of service and personal touch that is sometimes required," she notes. Bay Head and Neptune City are just two of several municipalities to switch their banking to Manasquan Bank. "There are quite a few others preparing to move their accounts to us as well," notes Franzoni.

Mark Beriault

Job Titles:

  • Senior Executive Vice President, Chief Lending Officer
"At Manasquan Bank, the size of the loan request is secondary to the business owner or property owner making the request," says Mark Beriault, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer, who oversees all residential and business loans for the Bank. Beriault joined the Bank in 2004 to expand its lending operations. He has assembled a team of seasoned local loan officers that contact borrowers personally and make informed decisions in a timely manner. "We typically get back to the applicant with a decision within two to three weeks," he states. Beriault's team is nimble and customer service-oriented. "We can afford to be because all loan decisions are made right here. It also means we can service the loan more efficiently. If a business or property owner has a question, he or she calls the account officer directly. Our customers don't need a toll-free number and an afternoon to spend on hold," he says.

Rich Lanza - CTO, SVP

Job Titles:
  • Chief Technology Officer
  • Senior Vice President
  • SENIOR MANAGEMENT
Manasquan Bank's Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer, Rich Lanza believes he has two sets of clients. "The first and most important set is our everyday, traditional clients," he says. "My goal is to make their banking experience as easy and as convenient as possible." The second set of Lanza's clients is Manasquan Bank's own employees. "Their requests are always related to client transactions so improving the IT support system ultimately enhances the overall external customer experience as well," he explains. As an example, Lanza points to the cash recyclers have been introduced to all 15 branches. A recycler is a sophisticated machine that automates a couple of simple, but important tasks-accepting and dispensing cash. It significantly increases client satisfaction by reducing wait times by up to 50%, allowing tellers to provide a more personal, as well as efficient service. "We've also added Teller Source Capture, a technology platform that allows tellers to focus more attention on the customer rather than the transaction," he adds. Lanza notes that many of his team's tasks are designed to make the complex look simple. They implemented a new user interface so that mobile and online banking have similar designs. The team has enabled instant issue debit cards at every branch so lost or damaged cards can be replaced immediately, including chip-enabled cards. "Though convenient, there are a host of security issues and certifications that must be completed to ensure a successful introduction," adds Lanza. He adds that the Infinity checking program that has proven so popular also has a tremendous amount of data processing going on in the background. "Infinity accounts target our clients who are on the go. They want to use their ATM card everywhere. We not only track the individual transactions but monitor the types of transactions so we can rebate any ATM fees if the account qualifications have been met. It has proven wildly successful with college students who literally live off their debit cards," he says.

Robert Hart

Job Titles:
  • SENIOR MANAGEMENT
  • Senior Vice President, Director of Residential Lending
  • Vice President for the Coastal Habitat for Humanity 's Board of Directors
In a commoditized industry where mortgage lenders compete on rate and pricing, Manasquan Bank's Senior Vice President & Director of Residential Lending, Robert Hart adds two more criteria into the decision making process: quick lending decisions and service excellence. "We do what we can, when we can to expedite the process," he says, noting that Manasquan Bank is already highly competitive on loan costs. "We understand applying for a mortgage is an emotional process and time is of the essence. Our entire team is committed to efficiently processing loan requests," says Hart. Hart serves as the Vice President for the Coastal Habitat for Humanity's Board of Directors. Manasquan Bank has assumed the servicing of their loans at no cost to the non-profit. The new TRID disclosure regulation has made it more costly and complex for Coastal Habitat for Humanity to process their own loans as they've done in the past. Robert Hart has over 36 years of experience in the banking industry, working for lenders such as City Federal Savings, OceanFirst Bank, Central Jersey Bank, and Sovereign Bank. He's been at home at Manasquan Bank now for 9 years. The residential lending group has an average of 25 years of experience per person. That makes for a well-seasoned team that knows how to adapt to various challenges. That being said, their greatest accomplishments are seeing the positive impact they make in the community and making sure the people they serve are happy and satisfied.
