Jason P. Ortega's practice is primarily committed to criminal law and family law, throughout the State of Texas. From the barrios of El Paso, Texas stricken with poverty and a tumultuous upbringing, Jason is no stranger to adversity. He has extensive knowledge and experience with alcoholism, substance abuse and mental health issues. Coming from a broken family, Jason understands the complexity of family dynamics. Due to his background and personal experience, Jason is uniquely situated to assist and understand when others cannot. After graduating from St. Edwards University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and an extensive business background, Jason received his Juris Doctorate from Texas A&M University. As an experienced trial lawyer and skilled litigator, Jason is prepared to go to Court when cases cannot be resolved outside of the courtroom. Jason blended a family with his wife and they have four children, one son and three daughters. When he's not in the courtroom, Jason enjoys spending time with his family and riding through the hill country on his Harley.

Born in Houston, Texas, John attended the University of Texas, where he was a member of the basketball team which won two Southwest Conference championship titles and the 1978 National Invitational Tournament. He received his B.A. (American Studies) in 1980. Following his graduation, John played basketball professionally in Europe before returning to enter Baylor University School of Law, from which he graduated in 1984. John was admitted to the Texas State Bar in 1984 and joined Minton, Bassett, Flores & Carsey, P.C. Since joining the firm, John has concentrated on civil litigation, family law and criminal defense. With his background in college and professional sports, he has successfully represented a number of well known athletes and coaches in various matters. He also has an expansive list of Fortune 500 companies who turn to him for representation in critical matters. John also currently serves as Managing Partner of the firm. John enjoys sports of every kind, cooking and travel.

Rick R. Flores

Rick's practice is primarily focused on defending clients against criminal charges at all levels where he has been lead counsel in over 100 trials. Prior to joining the firm, Rick worked as a prosecutor for 4 years with the Travis County Attorney's Office where he negotiated thousands of cases. His experience as a prosecutor helps him zealously represent and defend clients in Austin and throughout Central Texas. Rick is the 2019-2021 Chair of the Austin Bar Association Criminal Law Section and a Director of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Rick R. Flores was recently named a back-to-back Top Attorney in Austin by Austin Monthly Magazine (2019, 2020) and a Rising Star by Texas Super Lawyers for 2017-2021. Rick received a B.B.A. in Finance from The University of Texas and a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law. Samuel E. Bassett

Sam grew up in San Antonio and is a proud graduate of MacArthur H.S. He is married to Jennifer Bassett and has two adult children and enjoys time with them. He also enjoys golf, working at his ranch near San Antonio, fitness/boxing and devotes time to charitable causes. He is Trustee of the Orr Family Foundation. Sam is a former President of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers' Association and presently serves on the Board of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Educational Institute. He is a long-time faculty member of the Texas Criminal Trial College (Huntsville, Texas) and is a past President of the Travis County Bar Association's Criminal Justice Division. He is a member of the Family Law Section of the State Bar. From 2005 until 2009, Sam served as Chair of the Texas Forensic Science Commission and was nominated by the Dallas Morning News for "Texan of the Year" for his service. Sam frequently teaches criminal law, family law and ethics at continuing education events for lawyers and for judges. Sam is a former Grievance Committee Member and chair for the District 9 Grievance Committee of the State Bar.

Sara Stites Donovan joined MBFC in 2020 and focuses her practice on criminal defense and family law. Prior to joining the firm, Sara was a prosecuting attorney in Austin and Kansas City, Missouri, where she handled felony offenses and misdemeanors. Her time as a prosecutor gives Sara a unique insight and edge in the courtroom. Sara is a local Austinite, born and raised in North Central Austin. When she's not at the office or in the courtroom, she can be found watching Kansas Jayhawks basketball or hanging out at Deep Eddy with her husband, Case, and their labradoodle, George.
