Ana Coppola

Ana joined Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Board of Directors in 2021 and serves as Chair of the Grant Committee and on the Governance Committee. She is a Public Health Planner for the Polk County Health Department. She received her Master's in Public Health from Des Moines University. Ana is an alumni of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute, now going by Lead DSM. Ana serves on the Board of Directors for Iowa ACEs 360, Dallas County Hospital Foundation, and is a volunteer for the United Way of Central Iowa serving on the Health and Well-Being Cabinet. Ana facilitates collective impact efforts that focus on population health to advance health and racial equity.

Buck Olsen - Treasurer

Buck joined Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Board of Directors in 2018 and, in addition to serving as Secretary/Treasurer, serves on the Audit and Investment Committees. Buck is the Chief Executive Officer of Foster Group. His primary responsibilities are to set the strategic direction of the firm and provide the resources needed to serve clients with the highest level of personal and fiduciary care. He received his B.A. in Management and Finance from Simpson College and earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation in 2003.

Chris Cook

Chris joined Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Board of Directors in 2016 and serves as Audit Committee Chair and on the Investment Committee. Chris holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is one of the principal partners at Gilbert & Cook and serves as the firm's Chief Investment Strategist. Gilbert & Cook is a billion-dollar wealth management firm located in West Des Moines.

Denise Swartz

Joining Mid-Iowa Health Foundation in 2004, Denise is actively involved in a variety of health and philanthropic planning and funding collaboratives, and in cultivating beneficial community partnerships within the Greater Des Moines region. Her experience in private, nonprofit, philanthropic, and community-building sectors informs the Foundation's efforts to improve the health of children and families.

Dr. Daniel Zinnel

Dr. Daniel Zinnel joined the Mid-Iowa Health Foundation Board of Directors in 2023 and serves on the Grant Committee. He has served as the CEO of Proteus, Inc. since August 2019, and has worked with the organization for over ten years. Daniel has over fifteen years of nonprofit administration and leadership, including his time at Proteus and previously as the Executive Director of One Iowa. He has a Doctorate of Education in Leadership from Creighton University. Zinnel holds an M.A. in health studies from the University of Alabama, a B.A. in liberal arts with sociology and psychology minors from Grand View University, and an A.A. from Iowa Central Community College. Daniel serves on the board and executive committee of UnityPoint Health - Des Moines, Iowa Primary Care Association, One Iowa Action, and other boards and advisory committees. He was named the 2018 Influencer of the Year at the Young Professionals Connection and Des Moines Register Young Professional of the Year Awards. Also in 2018, he was awarded the Community Vision Award for Challenging by the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute. In 2017, he completed the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute's Community Leadership Program. Daniel received one of the Des Moines Business Record's Forty Under 40 awards in 2015, and in 2012, he received the Karen Packer Spirit of Collaboration Award at the Iowa Cancer Summit.

Dr. Nalo Johnson

Originally from Des Moines, Dr. Nalo Johnson has spent her career as a public health professional, supporting community health efforts at both state and local levels. Nalo practices participatory, evidence-based methods to address community health concerns, centering addressing the social determinants of health as a strategy to reduce health disparities within the community. Prior to joining Mid-Iowa Health Foundation, Nalo was the Division Director for Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention at the Iowa Department of Public Health where she oversaw a broad range of programming including maternal and child health, nutrition and physical activity, chronic disease prevention and management, disability and wellness, injury prevention, and oral health. She was also the Community Health Division Manager for the Johnson County Public Health Department in Iowa City where she oversaw the department's health promotion and communicable disease programs. Nalo is grateful to have had her work recognized locally and nationally including being awarded the 2019 American Public Health Association Henrik L. Blum Award for Excellence in Health Planning, the Corridor Business Journal Forty Under 40 Award, and is a Ford Foundation Fellow. Dr. Johnson received her PhD from the University of Minnesota and her BA from Williams College in Massachusetts.

Joseph Jones - Chairman

Joseph joined Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Board of Directors in 2017 and, in addition to serving as Board Chair, serves on the Grant and Governance Committees. He serves as Chief of Staff at Des Moines University. Previously Joseph served as Executive Director for The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement and as Senior Vice President of Government Relations & Public Policy at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. He holds a PhD, Master of Public Administration in public policy, and a Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Administration from Drake University. In 2014, Joseph was awarded the honor of Drake's Distinguished MPA Alumnus.

Judith Vogel

Judith joined Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Board of Directors in 2002 and serves on the Investment Committee. Judith retired from Principal Global Investors, a member of the Principal Financial Group, where she worked as an Equity Investment Analyst for 37 years. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst and member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Iowa. Judith also currently serves on the Central College Board of Trustees.

Kelly Grossman

Kelly is a Managing Director at Principal Global Advisors (PGA), a client market segment within Principal Global Investors that delivers customized investment solutions, outsourced CIO and relationship management services to clients. She is responsible for the enterprise fiduciary risk in terms of business and client activities. This includes oversight of client investment analytics and risk, governance, vehicle structures, client retention growth, manager research and business support, as well as strategic development. In addition, Kelly chairs the PGA Investment Committee which provides oversight of the investments used in OCIO client portfolios. She joined Principal in 1991 and has been in the investment industry since 1999. Previously, Kelly held several leadership roles in Principal Global Investors including asset allocation, structured product development, and stable value investments. She started at Principal as an actuarial assistant and held various other actuarial positions in pricing and product development. Kelly received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Northern Iowa and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Kelly serves as Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Investment Committee Chair and is a member of the Audit Committee.

Rob X. Barron

Rob X. Barron serves on Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Grant and Governance Committees. He is the Executive Director of Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact, a network of over 50 colleges and universities focused on civic engagement and equitable campus-community partnerships. He is also the co-founder of the Latino Political Network, a non-partisan organization which serves to educate and empower Latinos to serve at all levels of elected office throughout Iowa. Rob was elected to the Des Moines School Board in 2013, becoming the first Latino ever elected in Iowa's largest county. He served as board chair and vice chair over his eight years of service. Prior to joining Campus Compact he previously worked for Senator Tom Harkin (ret.), NextGen Climate, and Grand View University.

Tammy Gentry

Tammy joined Mid-Iowa Health Foundation's Board of Directors in 2018 and serves as the Governance Committee Chair and on the Audit Committee. Tammy is a partner in the Des Moines law firm Parrish Kruidenier, where she has practiced over 20 years in areas including workers' compensation, personal injury, criminal defense, administrative defense, and family law. In addition, Tammy is a certified mediator, and actively mediates family law and other disputes. Tammy is actively involved in the community, having served as the Chair of the Broadlawns' Medical Center Foundation, and is a Judicial Nominating Commissioner for District 5C. In addition, Tammy coaches high school Mock Trial for Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, and is a member of Roosevelt's Rider Club. Tammy is married with two teenage daughters.
