Andrew J. Atkins

Andrew J. Atkins was admitted to the Bar in 2006, joined the firm in 2007, and became a member (partner) in 2021. He graduated cum laude from Furman University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and earned a juris doctor degree from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law. He practices primarily in the areas of estate administration, estate planning, guardianships and conservatorships, and long-term care planning. Mr. Atkins is a member of the South Carolina Bar and served as Chair of its Elder Law Committee from 2016 to 2018. He is a member of the Richland County Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and the South Carolina Chapter of NAELA. Mr. Atkins is the current President of the South Carolina Chapter of NAELA and was selected as Outstanding Chapter Member of the year for 2013. Mr. Atkins teaches Elder Law at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law with Sarah Garland St. Onge. He has planned numerous seminars for the legal community on Elder Law topics and has done presentations on Elder Law and Estate Planning for various community groups. Mr. Atkins is a contributing editor and author of A Practical Guide to Elder and Special Needs Law in South Carolina, Second Edition, and The Paralegal Survival Guide - Facts and Forms, Third Edition, both published by the South Carolina Bar.

Morgan Compton Powell

Morgan Compton Powell was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2023 and began her career as an Associate Attorney at Millender Elder Law LLC. She graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina Honors College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health and earned a juris doctor degree from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law. Morgan began working at Millender Elder Law LLC, as a law clerk, in May 2022. Her background in public health and her passion for those with disabilities has given her a strong foundation in her practice. She has prior clerking experience working in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, corporate matters, and real estate. While attending law school, Morgan served as an Articles Editor for the ABA Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Journal; a Peer Mentor; and a student attorney for the Education Rights Clinic. She was also a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society and secretary of The Health Law Society.

Sarah Garland St. Onge

Sarah Garland St. Onge started at Millender Elder Law in 2018 and became a member (partner) at the firm in 2021. She brings over fifteen years of experience in advocating for people with disabilities and their families. Her knowledge includes an understanding of the services and systems in South Carolina available to people with disabilities and the elderly. This knowledge base allows her to take a holistic approach to problem solving, including establishing working plans based upon her client's goals. Mrs. St. Onge has brought federal litigation to enforce the rights guaranteed by the Americans with Disabilities Act, drafted amicus briefs in both state and federal courts, and investigated allegations of abuse and neglect at facilities throughout South Carolina. She has experience in the fields of estate planning, probate, elder law, administrative law, mental health law, litigation, appellate practice, and affirmative litigation.
