Orthopedics became April's passion early in her career working in Sports Medicine in her home town of Sarasota, Florida. Since first stepping into orthopedic surgery in PA School clinicals, she loved the surgery room and enjoyed helping athletes achieve living active lifestyles. Having been a collegiate tennis player, being active and playing sports is a big part of April's life. Working in Level I orthopedic trauma in Colorado, April received the opportunity to make significant differences in patients' lives with the most basic fundamentals. Whether helping patients get back to painless walking or regaining normal functionality to return to work, she cherished the opportunity and challenge of trauma orthopedics. Outside of work, April enjoys traveling and spending time with her favorite crew- her husband, 4 young kids, and her dog- as well as being active outdoors with hiking, camping, and a new fondness for Kansas lake life. Brenda Fink

Brenda studied at University of Kansas for 3 years then completed Bachelor of Science degree for Occupational Therapy at Newman University in 1999. She also graduated Cum Laude. She has practiced in outpatient therapy clinics with Ascension Via Christi for 23 years before joining MAO in 2022. In 2019, Brenda started Occupational Therapy/Hand Therapy in Derby, KS. She then started OT Hand Therapy at St. Teresa Hospital in January 2021. Brenda became a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) in 2019. CHT's are certified or licensed occupational therapists or physical therapists who, through advanced education, clinical experience, and independent study, have become proficient in the treatment of pathological upper limb conditions resulting from trauma, disease, or congenital or acquired deformity. In her free time, Brenda enjoys spending time golfing with her husband and son. She also grew up in the Kansas City area and is a big Kansas City Chiefs fan. Codie joined Mid-America Orthopedics in March 2019. Sports were a large part of Codie's life as a kid. As she has aged, living a healthy and active lifestyle is something she thinks everyone should be able to experience pain free. David Hufford

David Hufford, MD has been with Mid-America Orthopedics since 2005 and specializes in Occupational Medicine. His current practice is limited to the performance of independent medical examinations. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Independent Medical Evaluators and certified by the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners. He is dedicated to his family, church and community and enjoys sports and music in his spare time.

Jared Friesen

Jared joined Mid-America Orthopedics in January of 2012. He began his career in health care working the Burn Center and Trauma department. Jared enjoys working face-to-face with patients, as well as in the operating room. Orthopedics has given him the ability to continue to work in both environments. Jared is also an advocate for active lifestyles. He is always excited to see the many successful orthopedic outcomes that allow people to "keep moving." Jared works alongside Tarun Bhargava, MD and treats patients at the East Wichita office. Most of Jared's time outside of work is devoted to his favorite people: his family, which includes his lovely wife, 2 amazing children, his incredible parents, and his awesome siblings. Kent Hoffman

After working in petroleum industry and seeing limited career possibilities, Kent started working part-time as an EMT at a local hospital. He worked with many mid-level providers and found that they really enjoyed the patient interaction and challenge. Kent then began taking classes in the medical field and found that he really enjoyed the learning process. Kent thinks he sort of fell into medicine. As a Physician Assistant, he works as a team with his supervising physicians, caring for patients at Mid-America Orthopedics. Kent believes it is a humbling career but very rewarding. Kent joined Mid-America Orthopedics in 2006. He feels very blessed to work with the co-workers and physicians in the practice. Kent really feels we have the best around. He works alongside Pat Do, MD and Justin Strickland, MD and treats patients at the East Wichita and Derby office locations. Outside of work, Kent enjoys an amalgam of activities. He loves being outdoors so hunting, shooting, camping, or hiking, etc. are high on his list. He also enjoys working with wood or metal repurposing items that may be thrown away. Kent likes motorcycle riding as well. Currently, Kent is in the market for off road MC because you can go to so many out of the way places. Mark joined Mid-America Orthopedics in January 2019. He knew he wanted to choose a career in orthopedics for a few reasons. He had a lot of sports injuries that led him to orthopedic surgeons and physical therapy. After having a positive experience, that is when he knew this was the specialty he wanted. Mark is mechanically minded and enjoys building and repairing things, so orthopedics is the specialty that most closely relates to this. He works alongside John Babb, MD and treats patients at the West Wichita office. Outside of work, Mark enjoys wood working, home improvement projects, coaching his daughters in soccer, exercising, playing video games with friends and his daughters, and playing card games with family. Pamela Fruechting

Pamela, a life-long Kansas native, has practiced exclusively as an orthopedic nurse practitioner since graduation from the University of Kansas in 1997. Her current clinical focus is surgical and non-surgical foot and ankle conditions, fractures, and diabetic foot ulcers. Her career experience spans trauma, joint replacement, and general orthopedics. In 2006, Pamela was one of the first nurse practitioners to receive advanced certification as an orthopedic nurse practitioner from the Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board. In 2014, she earned a PhD in nursing at the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin. Pamela is a contributing author for two chapters of Core Curriculum for Orthopaedic Nursing (8 th ed.), published by the National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses (2021) and is a peer reviewer for Orthopaedic Nursing. Past endeavors include development of orthopedic certification exam test items, writing and presenting continuing medical education, and serving as an expert witness in orthopedic malpractice cases.

Tammy Harper
