Tim Nay

Tim Nay has combined decades of clinical social work experience and legal expertise to develop an insightful, innovative and people-friendly approach to assisting our clients. He held professional clinical social work licensure in Texas, Idaho and Oregon. He is licensed to practice law by the Oregon State Bar and the Washington State Bar Association. In 1997 Tim successfully sued the United States Attorney General, Janet Reno (who Tim greatly admires) nullifying the "Granny Goes To Jail Law." He is the founding president of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAE), a Fellow of the Academy. He is the past Chair of the NAELA Amicus Brief Committee, member of the NAELA Medicaid Task Force; founding member and past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Oregon State Bar and past President of the Oregon Gerontological Association and the Alzheimer's Association of Oregon Chapter. Tim was one of four founding members of the National Alliance of Medicare Set Aside Professionals (NAMSAP), and served as NAMSAP's first Secretary. He is an Advisory Board member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners (ASNP). Tim is the founding President of Guardian Partners. He is the recipient of the 2019 Theresa Award. Tony Abrams

Tony Abrams (he/him) is passionate about helping people. He serves as a trusted advisor to people in Oregon and Southwest Washington, creating estate plans that reflect each client's unique values, life circumstances, and personal goals. Tony listens carefully, explains complicated concepts in simple to understand language, and provides advice that leaves clients feeling empowered. Tony prides himself on building lasting relationships with his clients across multiple family generations and is proud to be at a firm that has been doing the same since the 1980's. Tony knows from personal experience that families come in many forms and enjoys assisting blended families and LGBTQIA+ folks with their planning needs. Prior to joining Nay & Friedenberg, Tony practiced estate planning and nonprofit law in Seattle and he spent the last three years leading a community foundation. Tony values the opportunity to advise clients on ways to leverage charitable planning to build a personal or family legacy. Tony has an advanced degree in taxation, taught as an adjunct instructor for the University of Washington School of Law's Graduate Program in Taxation, helped draft Washington's version of the Uniform Trust Decanting Act, and has been selected multiple times as a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers magazine. Tony enjoys cooking and hosting gatherings, seeing live music, and exploring Portland's many record stores. He grew up in the Pacific Northwest and is delighted to be putting down roots in Portland with his family.
