The Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) funded by the National Science Foundation is a research collaboration with Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California-Santa Barbara, and the Museum of Science-Boston with participation by Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), the University of Basel (Switzerland), the University of Tokyo (Japan), and the Brookhaven National Laboratory, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Sandia National Laboratory, and the National Enterprise for nanoScience and nanoTechnology (NEST, Pisa, Italy)... Introduction The goal of our Center is to develop tools for understanding nanoscale systems that link Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We plan to build, image and test ultra-small quantum devices based on electrons and photons, and to understand their behavior theoretically.
