Christopher W. Seery

Christopher W. Seery, M.D., joined New Vision Eye Center in September 2023. As a fellowship trained cornea specialist, Dr. Seery provides expert medical and surgical care for a variety of routine as well as complex corneal issues, including medical, surgical, and laser eye care. His expertise especially lies in full and partial thickness corneal transplantation (DMEK, DSAEK, DALK, and PKP), refractive and complex cataract surgery, and laser vision correction. Dr. Seery graduated undergraduate from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, where he graduated magna cum laude. During his tenure, he competed as a member of the rowing team, serving as captain of the team as elected by his coaches and peers, and competed nationally and internationally. He went on to earn his medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. He continued his leadership here serving as a peer mentor to aid with the transition to medical education while achieving honors in his clinical rotations and high praise for his compassionate care. Dr. Seery remained at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School for his internship and ophthalmology residency training. Here, he was exposed to all subspecialties of ophthalmology and received several accolades for his compassionate and high-quality care, including The Residency Director's Award as well as The Rev. James F. Reilly Humanitarian Award. He developed a passion for cornea surgery for the potential of visual rehabilitation. In order to gain the expertise as a cornea and refractive surgeon, he completed his fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami. Dr. Seery is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO), speaks medical and conversational Spanish, is a member of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS). Dr. Seery has presented his research at several conferences including ARVO, ASCRS, and AAO, and has also published his work widely. Dr. Seery lives in Vero Beach, where he enjoys spending time with his fiancée, traveling, fishing, golfing, and pursuing a variety of outdoor activities.

David J. O'Brien

David J. O'Brien, MD, FACS joined New Vision Eye Center July 20, 2009. His practice includes the medical and surgical management of corneal disease and refractive surgery including Excimer laser vision correction. He also continues with general ophthalmology, glaucoma, and eyelid surgery. He earned his bachelor's degree at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. He went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. While there, he was awarded the Cor Et Manus award for distinguished service to the college. Dr. O'Brien then completed his internship and residency in Ophthalmology at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York, NY. He also has participated in missionary eye surgery at Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India. Because of his interest in diseases of the cornea and refractive surgery, Dr. O'Brien pursued fellowship training in these areas at the Dean A. McGee Eye Institute at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, OK. There, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons commended Dr. O'Brien for his care of patients during the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. Dr. O'Brien's area of expertise includes Laser Vision Correction (LASIK and Advanced Surface Treatment performed with the Excimer Laser), Custom Wavefront guided laser vision correction, Astigmatic Keratotomy, and CK (Conductive Keratoplasty). He practices general ophthalmology but specializes in treatment of corneal disorders and external diseases of the eye. Clinical research has been a large part of Dr. O'Brien's training. He has written extensively about his research in the area of corneal disease and refractive surgery, much of which has been published in National and International ophthalmic literature. He is the Medical Director of the Laser Center at the New Vision Eye Center, one of forty sites in the country chosen as an FDA investigational center for advanced study of refractive surgical procedures. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, fellow of the American College of Surgeons, member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and member of the Castroviejo Cornea Society. Dr. O'Brien has three children and is married to Dr. Julie Vargo. They enjoy sports, fishing, travel, and family.

Marvin I. Gordon

Marvin I. Gordon, M.D. joined New Vision Eye Center in January of 2023. He is a fellowship trained comprehensive ophthalmologist with extensive training in the medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases with particular interest in glaucoma treatment and custom cataract surgery. He provides advanced surgical techniques and laser treatments to minimize patient discomfort, accelerate healing, and maximize long-term outcomes. Dr. Gordon's six years of post-graduate training included a fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology at Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, which he completed in 2004, and an ophthalmology residency at Brooklyn Jewish Hospital at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, completed in 2003. Prior, he interned at Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program, affiliated with the University of Arizona School of Medicine, emphasizing transitional medicine. He attended medical school at The University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and received his undergraduate degree from The University of California, Irvine School of Biological Sciences. Dr. Gordon is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).

Robert M. Reinauer

Robert M. Reinauer, MD, joined New Vision Eye Center in July of 2015, after completing his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX. As a retinal specialist, he sees patients in need of surgical care of the retina, such as detachments, the removal of floaters, and macular holes. In addition, he provides customized medical treatment of dry and wet macular degeneration and diabetic eye care. His overarching goal is to capitalize on the most advanced surgical techniques, laser treatments, and drug therapies to minimize patient discomfort, accelerate healing, and maximize long-term outcomes. Dr. Reinauer's six years of post-graduate training included his ophthalmology residency at Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, MI, which he completed in June of 2013. Prior, he interned at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, TX, emphasizing internal medicine. Dr. Reinauer attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Medicine in San Antonio and received his undergrad degree from The University of Texas. In addition to his comprehensive education, Dr. Reinauer speaks medical Spanish and completed several ophthalmology mission trips to Latin America during his training. He is now on the board of directors for Chosen Eye Missions and makes many trips each year to perform sight-saving surgeries in impoverished areas of Central America. Dr. Reinauer is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). Further, he serves on the board of directors of the We Care Foundation. Published in both the Retina Times and the Review of Ophthalmology, he holds a medical license from the Texas Medical Board in addition to Florida.

Roger J. Meyer

Roger Meyer, MD, joined the staff of New Vision Eye Center on July 20, 2009. He specialized in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous, with a special interest in Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD), Diabetic Eye Care, Glaucoma, and the optic nerve. As a fellowship trained, nearly 30-year veteran of ophthalmology in Indian River County concentrating on treatment of the Retina & Vitreous, Dr. Meyer drew patients and referrals from around the country. He earned his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee - graduating Cum Laude. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. From there, Dr. Meyer completed internship training at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago in categorical internal medicine. He returned to Northwestern for his residency in ophthalmology. Because of his special interest in diseases and surgery of the retina, Dr. Meyer then entered the fellowship training program at Northwestern for vitreo-retinal surgery. Dr. Meyer has published and lectured in his field. His article "Recurrences and Bilaterality in Multiple Evanescent White-Dot Syndrome" has been published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology. Dr. Meyer and his wife Mary Jo have two grown children and reside in Vero Beach. Upon his retirement, Dr. Meyer turned the care of his patients over to the highly capable hands of Dr. Robert Reinauer, who joined the practice in 2015. Dr. Reinauer is also fellowship trained in diseases and surgery of the retina & vitreous and shares Dr. Meyer's passion for providing patients with the very best care possible.

Scott D. Piette

Scott D. Piette, D.O. joined The Glaucoma Institute at New Vision Eye Center in May of 2022. Dr. Piette is a board-certified, fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and cataract surgeon. His specific areas of interest include optimizing visual outcomes for glaucoma patients encountering combined cataract surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgical (MIGS) procedures, and the latest advances in lens options for cataract patients. Dr. Piette earned his undergraduate degree from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, followed by his medical degree from Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to an internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI, and completed his residency at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. With a strong interest in glaucoma, Dr. Piette completed a glaucoma research fellowship at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEE). While there, he was awarded a research grant for his work, "The Changing Shape of the Optic Nerve Head with Changing Pressures." This was followed by additional training as a clinical fellow in glaucoma at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Piette is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Osteopathic Colleges of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ACOO-HNS), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). He has been active in the academic sector of ophthalmology, having been a presenter at numerous ophthalmology resident training programs and educational seminars; Dr. Piette has authored or co-authored over 26 articles and research papers.

Stephen M. Tate

  • Cataract and Specialty Lens Implant Surgeon in Vero Beach
Stephen M. Tate, MD, joined New Vision Eye Center at its founding in 2009. He serves as the director of New Vision's cataract service and medical director of New Vision's state of the art surgery center. As a board certified ophthalmic surgeon, Dr. Tate is an expert in cataract and lens implant surgery. Following his graduation with honors from Hampden-Sydney College, Dr. Tate received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 2003 where he received honors in every one of his clinical clerkships. After completing an internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH, where he received the prestigious Power of One Award for Patient Satisfaction, he returned to the West Virginia University Eye Institute to complete his training in ophthalmology, where he excelled at intraocular surgery. In addition to treating his current patients, Dr. Tate has been involved in multiple clinical research trials and regularly donates his time to local charities providing sight-restoring surgery to those in need. Dr. Tate is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a member of the Indian River County Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Florida Medical Association. He is also a volunteer professor for the Florida State University College of Medicine Dr. Tate is an avid fisherman but most enjoys spending time with his family.
