The IT industry has learned by now how to optimize Relational Data Bases for performance, often by duplicating and structuring the data into star and flake schema structures, and how to use Object Oriented languages to develop applications... The one major problem that has not found a solution yet is how to guarantee that the solutions provided correspond to the real business requirements. In fact most solutions today, correspond only somewhat to the business needs... The major reason for this gap consists of the fact that requirement formulation is today more an art than a science. Most commonly, requirements are captured in the form of loosely written text documents that contain ambiguity, and leave many questions un-unanswered. And that is even more of a problem in the area of information management than in the area of application functionality development.
