A.J.M. Ifjalul Haque Chowdhury

Having a Masters in Sociology & Masters in Development Studies from the Chittagong University and Institute of Social Studies (ISS) the Netherlands, Mr. Chowdhury has been working the field of development for more than 40 years. He did another post graduate Diploma from Wales University, UK in Appraisal, Monitoring and Evaluation of Development Projects. At present Mr. Chowdhury is engaged as a senior Freelance Consultant since January 2012. Prior to that period, he worked for several bi-lateral, multi-lateral, international and national NGOs in the country in the various development sector like health, nutrition, poverty alleviation, agriculture and food security, disaster and climate change. His combined professional background and experience of research, monitoring, evaluation and other social development activities along with project and organizational management enriched his expertise in the field of development work in Bangladesh. Dr. Daniel Hossain

Dr. Hossain completed his MBBS in 1999 and right after that he started his professional career. He joined PHD in 2010 as the Team Leader of its CLP Health Project. Before joining PHD, Dr. Hossain worked with an ICDDR,B project named PROJAHNMO. He also worked with UPHCP and MNCS. Dr. Hossain also received several training within the country and abroad. With an higher degree in Public Health, Dr. Hossain has gathered experiences in the areas of Research, Training, project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Dr. Hossain has a blend of experience starting from the grassroots level to the management of large intervention. Daniel successfully mobilized poor communities live in the remote Char areas of Jamuna, Tista river basin. He led the intervention on development of thousands of Char Saystha Kormi and Village Committees in those hard-to-reach areas to enhance community based essential maternal and neonatal services.

Dr. K. M. Rezaul Haque

Dr. Haque is a Senior Bangladeshi Community and Public Health professional with national and international work experience in Asia, Africa and Caucasus. He has obtained degrees, diplomas and certificates from the Universities in Bangladesh, UK, Australia and USA: MSc-MPH, from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK; MHPEd-Master of Health Personnel Education from UNSW, Australia; postgraduate Certificate in Population Education from Chicago University, USA; postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and medical degree MBBS-Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Rajshahi Medical College, Bangladesh. He has received British Council, Kellogg Foundation, Chicago University, and International Rescue Committee Fellowships. During the Bangladesh war of liberation, as a medical student he has managed a field hospital for refugees and freedom fighters based in India. Dr. Haque started his career in 1973 as Assistant Surgeon in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. As one of the pioneers in the health and development sector, over the last 45 years, he has designed and led projects in Primary Health Care (PHC), Maternal Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH), Reproductive Health (RH), HIV/AIDS, Nutrition, Eye Care, Water-Sanitation, with different national and international organizations in Bangladesh and overseas. For more than 10 years he has served abroad providing management and technical support to RH capacity building and health networking projects in Uganda and Armenia; and emergency programs for refugees, returnees and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Sudan and Sierra Leone. In Indonesia, Thailand, and Bangladesh he has designed, processed funding and monitored NGO RH projects. During this period Dr. Haque has served in organizations like Terre Des Hommes, GK, AVSC/EngenderHealth, ODA/DfID, CARE, IMC, SCI, USAID/NHSDP, and Ad-din. Furthermore, for over nine years, Dr. Haque has taught postgraduate Clinical Nutrition courses at the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science (INFS), Dhaka University, and as Head of the Department taught Community Medicine in GSV Medical College and in Ad-din Women's Medical College. He has designed and implemented ‘big' projects in terms of size, coverage, national and international location, and funding with support from important donors such as Government of Bangladesh, USAID, ODA/DfID, CIDA, AusAID, GFATM. As an expert Dr. Haque has conducted monitoring and evaluation of MNCH interventions, implementation research and field surveys and capacity assessment of health facilities. He has co-directed short courses on Adult Education and Development at the Australian National University. He has also designed and implemented Community Health and nutrition training for NGO medical, paramedical and supervisory staff. Dr. Haque has designed social behavior change communication, training and capacity building curriculum, modules, manuals, guides and materials on Family Planning (FP), MNCH, nutrition and PHC, such as new methodologies on Birth-Planning, Home Based Pictorial Record for pregnant women, Appropriate Treatment of Common Diseases etc. As an editor and translator, Dr. Haque has contributed in national and international health journals, including ‘Where there is no Doctor', ‘Where Women have no Doctor' and ‘Facts for Life', and edited a monthly health journal "Gonoshasthaya" (People's Health). For last few years, Dr. Rezaul Haque has been providing consultancy services to health programs and activities for reputed organizations, such as EAA-LD AMC (GoB-DGHS), HEU (MoH&FW)-Save the Children, ACPR-NIPORT-ICF, UNICEF, CARE Bangladesh, Sight Savers International, Plan International, JICA, VSO Bangladesh, Concern Worldwide and the like.

Dr. Saqui Khandoker - Treasurer

With having a ‘Doctor of Medicine (MD)' in 1986, Dr. Saqui Khandoker has 25 years of service experience with the enormous involvement in program planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, research, contracting non-government organizations, building capacity in terms of management, finance and service delivery in several organizations. Saqui has an intense experience in quality assurance (QA) for the primary health care. Her contribution in developing the standards on Quality of Care for Essential Services in primary health care is enormous in Bangladesh health sector. During her long professional tenure, Dr. Khandoker served in Aga Khan Foundation, Plan International, ICDDR,B, BPHC-PNP and other organizations. She also worked in the Public Service particularly the postgraduate Medical Education in the University. As Additional Director (Inspection), Colleges and Postgraduate Institutes in BSMMU, Dr. Saqui Khandoker served for more than 8 years.

Fatema Showkot Jahan Rojy

Fatema joined PHD in 2007 and currently leading capacity building interventions. As a member of Senior Management Team she is the organizational focal point for any gender issues. She holds masters in Development Studies after having her BSS in Anthropology. Her expertise lies in aassessing training and capacity building needs, design tailor made training courses, module development, planning, developing training manual, facilitating and evaluating interventions. Ms. Rojy exercises her expertise in various aspects particularly in Training of Trainers (TOT), Participatory Management, Social and Behaviour Change Communication, counselling, team building, Negotiation skills, Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation, Counselling Techniques, Right based approach, Community Mobilization, Social Accountability, Community Farming, Knowledge Sharing and Information Management. Fatema also have ample experience in developing SoP and PIP, designing and managing & implementation of development projects specifically in the area of Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health. Fatema was involved in developing community mobilization guideline for all projects, where the sole component was community involvement and linkage development between community & facility. Fatema deigned door-to-door tracking and referral mechanism and also provided technical assistance to technology based tracking and referral initiatives. She has significant experience in designing and implementing different types of interactive tools and techniques following the approach of PRA, PLA and AI. Ms. Rojy has long experience in the areas of Primary Eye Care, Maternal Neonatal Health (MNH), WATSAN, WaSH, Child Rights and Protection, Participatory Management, HIV, AIDS & STI, Nutrition and Women Empowerment. During last few years, Fatema has developed more than 50 training modules and on behalf of PHD, provided support to WaterAid, UNICEF, Save the Children, Swisscontact International and other development partners.

Hosneara Khondker

Hosneara Khondker works at Save the Children in Bangladesh as ‘Program Director' for the Integrated Child Development Program , Shishuder Jonno . The key responsibilities of Hosneara are to lead and manage the program which is aimed to demonstrate innovative pathways to support Early Childhood Care and Development, Basic Education, School Health & Nutrition, Maternal NCHN and Adolescent Development. She provides strategic and operational leadership to the program including program design, implementation, and monitoring and partner management. She has both technical and managerial responsibilities. Ms. Khondker is also responsible to ensure appropriate training programs for staff members, partner agencies and others in support of high quality programs. Ensuring strong communication and coordination with other Save the Children programs, and with other initiatives in Bangladesh in order to maximize the use of resources to achieve multi-sector program integration are also her responsibility. Prior to joining USCC-B, Hosneara Khondker worked in various positions at several development organizations including USC Canada's country office in Bangladesh as ‘ Country Representative' , Intercooperation -a Swiss development organization , Bangladesh Population & Health Consortium (BHPC) - A Public NGO Partnership project of DFID, Bangladesh etc. She has about twenty-three years of experiences in the development arena with key strengthens in development, management and coordination of diversified programs/projects in the fields of education ( ECCD , Basic education , non-formal education, maternal and child health , adolescent development etc. She has gathered substantial experiences in project cycle management (designing, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation) and has extensive experiences in using of various participatory techniques and tools in designing, planning and implementation of community led development interventions. Hosneara Khondker has strong background in providing backstopping and guidance to staffs and partners in order to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the programs/projects. She has experiences in mainstreaming gender in the projects by providing strategic directions, monitoring, orientation, and concept and tools development. She has gathered experiences in providing capacity development support services to development professionals on various issues such as: project cycle management, participatory techniques and tools, rights based approaches, community participatory gender analysis etc. Hosneara Khondker holds Master's degree in Management (M.com) and a Master's degree in Development Studies.

Md. Jahirul Islam

Md. Jahirul Islam joined PHD's finance and administration team in January 2009. Before joining PHD he used to serve in several agencies. He is holding masters in Management and MBA in Finance and Banking. His experience lies in banking management, HR Management, preparing budget for the different donors, monitoring budget, analyzing budget variance, financial forecasting, call forward budgeting and donors reporting With his high negotiation skills, Mr. Islam leads the supply and procurement by handling various vendors, selecting the most appropriate, invoicing etc. following the financial rules and regulations, procedures and compliance guided by different donors.

Md. Sakhawat Hossain - Managing Director

Mr. Hossain has started working in the development sector from 1993. He is currently leading the organization as Additional Managing Director. He is a renowned development professional in Bangladesh for his extensive knowledge and outstanding career in organizational development, capacity building and program management. As Additional Managing Director, he leads the program designing and implementation across the country. Mr. Hossain also ensures the quality program implementation and responsible for all communications with international development partners and clients. In 2007, Mr. Hossain joined PHD as Director, Capacity Building, Training & Special Program. He led designing and implementation of different capacity building interventions with government, development partners and international NGOs. His immense expertise covers the area of capacity building, organizational assessment, project management, policy formulation, training management and other contemporary development issues. He is one of the pioneer practitioners of Participatory Rapid/Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach in Bangladesh. Mr. Sakhawat provided organizational development support and capacity building support to more than 120 organizations and involved in developing 150 training manuals for both public and development sectors. Sakhawat Hossain completed his master's in History and MBA from renowned universities of Bangladesh.

Md. Shakhawat Hossain

Md. Shakhawat Hossain, is working with Partners in Health and Development (PHD) since 2011 and presently he is working as Assistant Director-Program. He has 20 years' experience in development field with different organizations. Mr. Shakhawat has started his career with PHD as Senior Training Officer (STO. Before joining PHD, he worked as Program Officer in HIV/AIDS and STD Alliance in Bangladesh (HASAB), a leading and pioneer organization on HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh. Before that, he worked in Young Power in Social Action (YPSA) and Centre for Development Services (CDS) where he was involved in project implementation, partnership management and capacity development. In PHD, as focal point, Mr. Hossain is looking after projects on nutrition intervention for the vulnerable Rohinghya community as a part of humanitarian response. The key expertise of Mr. Hossain lies in project implementation, facilitation, training manual and module development, DIP development and training needs assessment (TNA) etc. He has immense expertise in intervention of maternal, newborn health, adolescent reproductive health and rights related projects in coordination with national and international agencies. Resource mobilization and local government engagement for improvement of community level health system is another area of his expertise. He has been playing proactive role in functional organizational management and quality program implementation.

Mohammad Mohiuddin

Mohammad Mohiuddin having masters in Social Welfare from University of Dhaka in 1978 is a Development cum Disaster Management expert. He has 40 years of professional experience; worked in UN System and International NGOs (UNDP, CARE & Save the Children-USA) of which majority time worked in the field of Development and Disaster Management / Disaster Risk Reduction being in the senior management positions. Through working with UN system and INGOs in close coordination with Government institutions, he has gained professional maturity with significant insights to analyze the overall situation, support needed by the development & emergency programs, compliance with the host country policies and the policies of the agency working with, understand the environment and resolve critical issues and problems. Has ability to act and make judgment in compliance with broader decision and organizational policy and capacity to work independently.

Mr. Abdus Salam - Managing Director

Mr. Abdus Salam is the Managing Director of Partners in Health and Development (PHD). He has an extensive background in leading public health and social development organizations in national and international cross-cultural settings. In addition to his master degree in Social Work from Dhaka University he holds a Master in Education from Manchester University, UK. He also completed specialized training from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK and IDPM, University of Manchester, UK on HRM, gender, maternal and child nutrition and Primary Health Care. Mr. Salam has 55 years long experiences in the field of public health and social development. Before joining PHD in 2006 as the Managing Director, he played the role in PHD as its founder Chairman. He also worked with Terre Des Hommes (Swiss) and Deputy Country Director of Concern Universal (a UK based organization). He worked with British funding mechanism (ODA/DFID/FCDO) and provided fund and technical assistance to more than sixty Bangladeshi NGOs and Civil Society organizations. He has significant experience in strategic leadership, governance, management of different non-government organizations, management of large-scale operations, humanitarian and social development programs. He also has a proven track record in effective external relationship management, marketing, brand-building, communications and fundraising for humanitarian and development projects. Mr. Salam is a specialist in community mobilization. He brought different innovations in demand creation through bringing communities in project cycle management. As an experienced development and health project manager, trainer, evaluator with a sound knowledge of government and non-government poverty alleviation, education and health services program and as an effective communicator, Mr. Salam has contributed to various organizations.

Mr. Ashish K Dutta

Since 1991, Mr. Ashish K Dutta has been active in the development sector. He is leading the RME wing of PHD. Mr. Dutta joined PHD in February 2007. Before joining PHD, he served in a renowned Capacity Development Organization named PRIP Trust as Deputy Director, OD and Finance, and executed good numbers of OD & TA Interventions for five consecutive years. Before PRIP Trust, he worked in Community Development Center (CODEC) as Manager Program, and served for long 10 years. He obtained a master degree in Sociology from University of Chittagong. Ashish is an expert in Strategic and Business Planning, Program Designing, Program Management, Organizational Development, Project Evaluation, Documentation and Reporting. He develops SOP, PIP, M&E System and Qualitative Reports for PHD's on-going projects. Mr. Dutta leads PHD projects related to Strategic Partnership, Emergency Responses, and Midwifery Education. During his long experience in the development sector, Mr. Dutta has acted as Team Leader and delivered huge numbers of TA to other agencies in the area of Strategic Planning, Program Development, Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA), Situation Analysis, PM&E System Development, and Project Evaluation.

Mr. Shahid Hossain

With more than 25 years of experience Mr. Shahid Hossain has a vibrant professional career. He has been serving in senior management positions for last 15 years. During this period, he worked in the field of business development, program development and implementation, financial management, monitoring and evaluation, capacity development, media engagement, social and behavior change communications, policy advocacy as well as community, NGO and private sector engagement. Currently, Mr. Hossain is working with Interactive Research and Development (IRD) as the Senior Advisor (Network Mobilization - NGOs and Private sector) for USAID's Challenge TB (CTB) project. Before that, he served in Save the Children, Marie Stpoes Bangladesh, EngenderHealth, BPHC and other organisations. He has a high level of experiences and skills in managing large and complex projects, different types of donor's fund (USAID, DFID, EU and other institutional donors), and diverse teams. In his long professional tenure he manages the public health programs; capture the best practices for policy change and scale up; develop the health and behaviour change communication strategy; develop social media strategy, develop communication materials for service promotions and behaviour change; and provide support to health and relevant ministries as part of capacity building initiatives. His specialization encompasses strategic planning and complex project management, systems strengthening, community based health, advocacy, proposal development, sustainable program implementation, knowledge management, mentoring and capacity building. Mr Hossain has achieved his post-graduation degree from the University of Dhaka and MBA degree from the University of Birmingham, UK.

Ms. Khodeza Begum

Ms. Khodeza Begum is an ex civil servant. She started her ‘Civil Service' (Economic Cadre) in 1978 as Research Officer in Planning Commission. She retired from government service in 2011 as Division Chief (Additional Secretary). During her long journey Ms. Begum served in Ministry of Planning (MoP), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and other ministries in different levels. In MoHFW, during 2006 to 2009, she played the vital role and oversaw PMO, MSA and PSO. Ms. Khodeza hold mater of science degree from University of Bath - UK, and MA from University of Dhaka. She led as Executive Head of the division in MoP with responsibilities of overall planning of the MoE, MoHFW, MoST, MoSW, MoWCA, Ministry of Mass Communication, MoYSC etc. As Chief (Additional Secretary) and Joint Chief (Joint Secretary) she developed many guidelines and acted as Line Directors. Ms. Begum also played crucial role in preparing the health policy while she worked for MOHFW. During her long journey, Ms. Khodeza Begum visited dozens of countries of most of the continents for learning and contributing.

Ms. Zaheda Ahmed

Ms. Zaheda Ahmed has more than 25 years experience of working in the development sector. In 1996, Ms. Ahmed started her carrier with DFID funded NGO project. During her professional carrier, a long period she worked with Save the Children. Her experiences mostly lie in monitoring education and health projects. She got three masters degrees in Early Childhood Development, Intercultural and International Management and in English from BRAC University, Bangladesh; School for International Training (SIT), Brattleboro, Vermont, USA and University of Dhaka respectively. In addition, Ms. Ahmed acquired a diploma in NGO Leadership and Management from Global Partnership Program (GP) of BRAC, Bangladesh.

S. M. Sharif Ahmed

S.M. Sharif Ahmed joined PHD's finance team in February 2010. He is an expert in preparing budget, monitoring the financial activities of partner organizations, NGO selection process, and financial capacity assessment. Mr. Ahmed has the proficiency to detect fraud, error, misappropriation, money embezzlements and also can ensure the effective utilization of fund and their internal control. He has completed CA course from a renowned CA company under ICAB and completed Knowledge Level under ICAB. In addition, he has completed LLB under National University. Before joining PHD, he has long experience in the areas of Finance, Audit Management, Accounts and Tax department NGO bureau, Joint Stock companies, financial monitoring and PNGO funding arrangement. During last few years Sharif gained experience in working with different financial systems of agencies like UNICEF, USAID, DFID, World Bank, and other national and international agencies.
