Dr. Gray has been practicing optometry for nearly 20 years. He specializes in providing post-operative care after laser vision correction surgery. Additionally, Dr. Gray delivers excellent quality care to patients for annual eye exams, contact lens fittings and exams, and diabetic eye care.
Dr. Gray comes to Providence Eye & Laser Specialists with 20 years of optometric experience. Dr. Gray's depth and breadth of experience in the area of dry general eye care, contact lenses, as well as LASIK and PRK post-operative care, enables him to provide the outstanding medical care that Providence Eye is known for.
Dr. Gray is a fully licensed Optometrist who was carefully selected to complement the outstanding patient care that all staff members at Providence Eye & Laser Specialists provide to our patients.

After a detour to Western Massachusetts, Dr. Gray is excited to be returning to his adopted home state. Dr. Gray grew up in Akron, Ohio and graduated from NC State with a degree in Zoology. It didn't take long though for Dr. Gray to figure out that his calling was really to care for people and not animals. Dr. Gray attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he received a 2nd bachelor's degree in Visual Science and then his Doctor of Optometry. Dr. Gray, along with his wife and two children reside in South Charlotte. When not practicing optometry Dr. Gray enjoys spending time with family and cheering for the Wolfpack.
Dr. Nunnery is a board-certified fellowship-trained corneal specialist specializing in both refractive surgery; LASIK & PRK and lens surgery; EVO ICL, RLE as well as traditional and laser-assisted cataract surgery. Dr. Nunnery naturally embraces the philosophies that drive the Providence Eye doctors: attention to detail, commitment to the patient, and every patient deserves clearer vision. He conducts evaluations, and surgery and is integrally involved in all of the post-operative care.
Dr. Edwin "Trey" Nunnery is a fellowship-trained cornea specialist, and a board-certified ophthalmologist. He is also a partner in our surgeon-owned medical practice. Dr. Nunnery's primary specialty is refractive surgery, including all-laser LASIK, EVO ICL and PRK. He will be personally focused on your well-being before, during and after your surgery. Determining the best vision correction care option for each patient is Dr. Nunnery's passion and commitment.
Dr. Nunnery is personable, authentic and empathetic, with exceptional attention to detail. All of these critical qualities have become synonymous with Providence Eye over the years. Without this level of attention and commitment, even the best technology would not allow us to meet the high expectations we have set for ourselves.

Dr. Mozayeni is a board-certified fellowship-trained cornea specialist specializing in refractive surgery: LASIK and PRK. He founded Providence Eye & Laser Specialists in 2003. Dr. Mozayeni conducts consultations, surgery and is integrally involved in all of post-operative care. Unlike some other Charlotte LASIK eye surgery practices, you will not be rushed through the process. Dr. Mozayeni will remain by your side in the months after your surgery to help monitor your success and ensure you achieve your optimal vision correction result.
Dr. Nunnery called Atlanta, Georgia home for most of his life. After attending the University of Georgia, he launched his medical education in Atlanta at Emory University. It is here where Dr. Nunnery met his wife Valerie. Their fellowship training took them north (briefly) to Albany, NY where he completed his fellowship training to become a cornea specialist. Dr. Nunnery returned to his Southern roots to join Providence Eye & Laser Specialists. When Dr. Nunnery is not working, you can find him hiking and exploring the outdoors with his wife and daughters.
Valerie H. Chen, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has completed a highly regarded American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) two-year fellowship. Dr. Chen was invited to join the Providence Eye team after Dr. Mozayeni learned of her meticulous and artistic surgical skills for ophthalmic plastic procedures. Dr. Chen possesses all of the necessary characteristics to be a trusted member of the Providence Eye surgical team: commitment to each individual patient, meticulous attention to detail and compassion. For patients who desire or are in need of blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery, ptosis repair, lesion removal or post-Mohs reconstructive surgery Dr. Chen will bring both science and art to the table.
Valerie H. Chen, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist in Charlotte who has completed a highly regarded American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) two-year fellowship. As a highly skilled ophthalmic plastic surgeon, Dr. Chen rounds out Providence Eye's commitment to providing procedures to improve people's vision and lifestyle.
Dr. Chen is passionate about both the science and art of her work and is dedicated to providing her patients with the best possible care. Her kind and approachable bedside manner ensures that patients feel comfortable and confident throughout their treatment journey.
Prior to joining Providence Eye, Dr. Chen was at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where, as a practicing physician she held the title of Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology in the section of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

After many years of medical training that took her from Chicago to Atlanta to Albany, NY to Raleigh, Dr. Chen set roots down in Charlotte, NC! Being part of the Providence Eye team enables Dr. Chen to do what she does best, help patients improve their field of vision, and in many instances, their self-confidence. Dr. Chen lives in South Charlotte with her husband Trey and their two daughters. When not working Dr. Chen enjoys tennis, singing and traveling, but mostly just spending time with her family.
Dr. Vanessa Mills joined the Providence Eye team in 2004 and is the most experienced optometrist in the region for the management of post-operative care after all types of laser vision correction. Dr. Mills delivers excellent quality care to patients for annual eye exams, contact lens fittings and exams, and diabetic eye care.
Dr. Mills is considered the most experienced Optometrist in the region for the management of post-operative care after all types of laser vision correction, including LASIK and PRK. Dr. Mills has been providing this service for thousands of patients since 2004, when she joined Providence Eye.

Dr. Mills originally grew up in central Pennsylvania and completed both undergrad and optometry schooling in her home state. Getting tired of the cold, she and her husband decided to move south and escape the long cold winters of the north. She has lived in Charlotte since 2004 with her family and now calls Charlotte home. She has been happily married to her high school sweetheart since 2000, although they have been together since 1995! Outside of being an exceptional eye care doctor, Dr. Mills enjoys any outdoor activity, but especially running and golfing. In the fall, she can be found watching her favorite football team, Penn State. Her most treasured time is spent with her family and friends.
