John P. Fitzgerald - Founder

He holds a J.D. and a LL.M. from the University of Illinois / Chicago and has been called to the bar in the states of Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Prior to the 1987 opening of this practice, he was employed by the Cook County Assessor's Office where he was an analyst in the Research and Standards department and held the designation of Certified Illinois Assessing Officer. Before attending law school, he was employed as a polygraph examiner, having trained under the direction of John E. Reid. He is the eldest of parents that immigrated from County Kerry and Limerick City, Ireland; and was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. A dedicated conservationist, he oversees an ongoing forest restoration project that has included the planting of 175,000 hardwood and pine trees and is currently planning a larger forest restoration project.

Mary Kathleen Fitzgerald

An alumnus of St. Ignatius College Prep, Mary Kate attended Marquette University where she double-majored in Economics and English. She then attended Loyola University Chicago / Law School graduating in May 2011. While at Loyola, she participated in the Papal Defense Project and authored several papers centered on the writings of St. Augustine. She was admitted to the Illinois Bar on November 10, 2011. Mary Kate was a founder of the Women's Property Tax Association; where she served as President 2020 -2022. She has also been recognized by her peers as a Leading Lawyer. Her specific areas of expertise include practice before various county Boards of Review and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board; where she has developed a reputation for being a tenacious advocate on behalf of her clients.

William M. McGuffage

William M. McGuffage is a member of the Illinois Bar. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University and UIC / Law. Prior to joining Fitzgerald Law Group, P.C. in an "of counsel" capacity, he was associated with the law offices of William M. Dart, Ltd. From 1983 to 1994 he served as legislative counsel to both Illinois Attorney Generals' Hartigan and Burris. Mr. McGuffage is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the Chicago Public Affairs Group and the Illinois State Bar Association. His areas of expertise are Specific Objections in the Circuit Court, Tax Exemptions and Tax Incentives.
