Amber Carrillo

Amber Carrillo has served on the Prosperity Works board for the past five years. As a skilled member of the non-profit world, her experience in grassroots organizing, community and social services, and her knowledge of Tribal Governance and Administration makes her experience invaluable. Fun fact: Amber is an artist and has been making jewelry since she was age 13. She also paints and does beadwork. She loves designing jewelry and gains inspiration from traditional Pueblo arts and contemporary architecture. ​

Ann-Mary MacLeod

Job Titles:

Ann-Mary is responsible for increasing individual philanthropic support for Prosperity Works. She comes to us from the University of New Mexico Foundation. From 2019 - 2022, she was with the Director of Development for the College of Nursing, and prior to that at Project ECHO (2018 - 2019). She has a long and varied career being first introduced to development as a volunteer at her daughter's preschool. Her expertise grew through opportunities across the country, including at Washington University in St. Louis and Family Promise in Reno. After returning to New Mexico in 2008, she managed the Development Office at UNM Valencia and then moved to the UNM Foundation to work in Corporate and Foundation Relations. Fun fact: Ann-Mary loves all things food. She began cooking one meal a week for her family when she was in 4th grade and has loved being in the kitchen ever since!

Aracely V. Serrano

Aracely is responsible for keeping PW's office running smoothly-managing our bookkeeping, coordinating financial reconciliation processes with our accounting partners, managing office inventory and select communications systems, assisting staff with special projects, and liaising with the Board as necessary for coordinating strategic meetings. Aracely attended Nashua Community College in New Hampshire where she majored in Paralegal studies. Fun fact: Aracely loves plants but doesn't have a green thumb!

Dr. Ann Lyn Hall - CEO

Ann Lyn is responsible for the strategic leadership of Prosperity Works programs and initiatives. She supports our statewide advocacy network to build capacity in organizations and advocates for policies that generate economic prosperity. She developed a holistic, student support model at a local community college to support first generation students and student parents to achieve their academic and career goals. She is a national leader in financial coaching, asset building, and helping adults improve access for educational, employment, and financial outcomes. She has educated professionals regarding financial coaching, using data for program improvement, the impact of poverty on education, college student resiliency factors, and asset development. ​Fun fact: Ann Lyn loves to take photographs. She likes to see the big picture through wide angle lens and the tiny details through macro lens.

Dr. Javier Aceves

  • Board Member / Retired Pediatrician and Social Justice Advocate
Dr. Javier Aceves recently retired from UNM. During his career, he provided comprehensive medical services for all children, no matter their health or chronic conditions and disabilities. He is the former medical director of Young Children's Health Center and former Director of the Developmental Disabilities Division of the New Mexico Department of Health. He was a professor of Pediatrics and former Chief of the Division of General Community pediatrics at the University of New Mexico. Aceves also taught community-based practice and the fundamentals of the medical home for children and youth with special healthcare needs. In addition to being a member of several community organizations; he also served as a consultant to the US Federal Court in Puerto Rico regarding the care of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Fun Fact: Javier enjoys gardening, carpentry, hiking and reading.

Juan Abeyta

Juan has over 40 years of consulting experience with educational institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. He has assisted with program development and evaluation, institutional relationship building, partnership management, community engagement, group facilitation, and strategic planning and analysis. He is deeply committed to social justice and is an advocate for community empowerment. Fun fact: Juan is an avid outdoorsman - hiking, backpacking, biking, gardening, star gazing and talking to birds.

Karen Meyers

For the past few years, Karen has been working with the City of Albuquerque to develop and implement a consumer financial protection initiative (CFPI) to assist in consumer outreach and education to prevent unfair and deceptive business practices, and most recently working to coordinate rental assistance and legislation as a result of the COVID pandemic.

Mike Athens

Mike Athens is the President, and CEO at Rio Grande Credit Union, and has been with Rio Grande CU since May 2010. He has always had a strong affiliation with the local community participating in numerous community service organizations. Mr. Athens previously served as the Vice President of Association Services at the Credit Union Association of New Mexico, a role that allowed him to serve all the credit unions in the state of New Mexico. Mike has been married to his wife Sue Anne for over thirty years and together they have one son. Fun Fact: Mike is a former Associate Peace Corps Director and helped support the American Mission in Tanzania, East Africa, and the U.S. Peace Corps in Washington, DC.

Monica Cordova

Monica is the Director of the New Mexico Assets Consortium at Prosperity Works. She is responsible for the management of 23 state-wide sub-grantees establishing policies and procedures for our asset building strategies throughout the state. Cordova joined the Prosperity Works team in 2009 as the Family Development Specialist managing the Elev8 program in several of Albuquerque's promising schools. Her previous experience in Family Development and her ability to speak Spanish allows her to work in many community organizations in New Mexico. She has a Family Development Specialist certification. Fun fact: Monica believes in the saying 'if you love what you do, you won't work a day in your life." She does not work, she just loves what she does.

Vanessa Peer

Vanessa Matuszewski-Peer was born and raised in Rio Rancho, NM, and graduated with her Master's in Social Work and a Master's in Business and Accounting from New Mexico Highlands University. She currently works at U.S. Bank as a Commercial Underwriting Credit Review Analyst. Vanessa also served as the President of the Board of Advisors at Fathers Building Futures and serves on the Loan Approval Committee at WESST. Vanessa constantly seeks opportunities to be involved in her community by volunteering. She enjoys hands-on volunteering at Fathers Building Futures, Junior Achievement, and New Mexico Kids Matters, which allows the unique experience of combining her MSW and MBA. Fun fact: Vanessa is a female car enthusiast that loves getting her hands dirty by wrenching on cars. She has a project car that will someday be track-ready.
